I am needing some help here....

Hotdam, I want to see this solved also. You don't happen to still have your old dwell tach do you? I have a running EA82T (atleast it did 6 months ago??) I am willing to go out and use one to check for ECU pulses or any other test you want done. I also have a automotive O-scope if that helps. -
doubt those would cause hard starting but knock sensor is probably the old style prone to cracking and going bad -- several recent posts on where it is, how much and how to replace Baro sensor is located on the pass side inner fender right beside the pressure exchange solenoid. Has vacuum lines and an electric line running to it. Try 1stsubaru.com for a replacement if the code keep coming back. (my 97 OB has this problem as I type) Did you do the plugs and wires yet? They may help with the starting issue esp if it's cold and damp.

Red faced and shuffling his feet, I am a few years behind you but have been in the same house for 30 years, => I have some ah some stuff. Now I see why you and the Cat bond so well. But AK to NM -- yea ha that's a switch. You did know that Cat meant the coil "bracket" not the coil body. Just for kickies - humor me and wiggle and giggle the connector from the dist to the car harness. while having it cranked over. -

My pleasure and lookin' forward to the picts (there is a post to read about sizing, please) The Weber makes my EA81 more drivable as the factory "HiCrappy" is troublesome to some. You may have the factory one barrel Weber? Sounds like you know which end of a ratchet clicks =>you will have a lot of fun with your new prize. Just for some fun reading you might download a copy of "How to keep your Subaru Alive" A.K.A. HTKYSA I'll see if I can find Andy's link to it for you if you want. -
howdy Jim, nice seeing you around. With all those codes stored you should have seen the CEL on, if they were not ghost codes. Couple thoughts 1)Does the check engine light illuminate when the key is turned to "on" but the engine is not started? yes( ) no ( ) 2) Has the car ever failed to start since you've owned it? yes ( ) no ( ) Clear the codes and drive it for several cycles - report the new codes. I know you use NGK plugs Please only use OEM wires

Howdy Goldie, Welcome to the good ship USMB Sounds like a real Nice wagon but Please (you will be asked many times) post some pictures of this gem. Also being from the rust coast I would luv to see it. As far as lifting and taller tires, engine up grades If you look around you will see dozens and dozens of posts/pictures The things that helped my Brat of similar vintage are larger exhaust coupled with a Weber carb. Many posts on this also exist. Have a good time and yes this is green as in with envy. -
Here is a great site if you have not found them already http://subarujusty.proboards20.com/

To add to wit You say "Technically you can hold the driveshaft with your hands (rear) and the jacked up wheel will turn freely." If one wheel only is off the ground... the drive shaft will turn when the wheel is turned. Aye? No gravey with your biscuit either. -

good on ya for not liking shocks sparks ect. I work in the electronics field, I don't like them either. I'm guessing an old NON inductive timing light* is in your inventory? *You might not remember the type that went in-line (series) with the spark plug wire. -

Let me ask this please. As a follow up on WA's test where the front wheels were lifted and both made to turn.....(see post #14) IF the vicious coupling were locked. If one rear wheel was lifted Tranny not in Neutral. The wheel should not turn freely. ????? Biscuit or no... -

Thanks for the update Brian. As far as I can see, that almost eliminates an Ig Amp problem. If the ECU is sending it's signal, even as small as it is it should generate a small spark. You brave enough to hold the coil wire while cranking? (rare case Ig Amp is shorted, but you say you tested for that.) Back to the Cat's tests or maybe a CAS (dist) swap. By the way Are you using one of these?
