  1. A big HELL YEA to Ken - that brat kicks it Bummed I had to take off after only 2 runs of the baja and your legacy (both seemed to be tearin it up!) - and I can vouch for the baja, all around I don't have good enough zoom, but I got a few pics of Ken's run too. - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  2. Thanks man - trying to make sure that its a headgasket thats blown, and not my timing thats off before I go tearing into this engine. Tomorrow I shall check on this when I get home - as my mom said (actually screamed) at the garage door "ERIK!! ITS AFTER 12 IN THE ****ING MORNING AND THAT THING IS SO ****'ING LOUD!!....... CHRIST!" ::door slams shut:: Hey, I figure I dream about revving subarus at night, so should others - I'm just giving some "inspiration" - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  3. I have this timing gun, and a friend who moved is the first person who used it, and even then I think the instructions werent in the box... So I'm trying to figure out exactly how to use this thing to get my car running as good as possible. So far I've figured out: Inductive handle thing over the #1 spark plug wire Ground and power on the battery Pointing at the timing marks while pulling trigger How to read it. What is still unclear - The gun has a knob with degrees on the back of it. And heres what I'm thinking/but not sure of - When set to 9 degrees (isn't that right for stock soob) it should read 0 on the timing marks - OR - Set to 0 on the gun its spose to read 9 on the marks... Now that I've typed it out I'm pretty sure the later is incorrect - but is the first guess right? I turned the disty a bit and it wouldnt run - so I knew I was close to begin with (running like crap, but running) - then went back/forth a few times to get it running again, and it seems to be running a little better than before. (and is slightly closer to zero if I remember correctly) So any tips? - sorry for the long post - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  4. Nice progress, hope they're not charging you full price for those fenders since they only seem to be half there j/k Hood looks interesting too, will there be a cowl induction scoop over that mesh (or are you talking about the actual windshiled cowl itself?) - either way, should be very eyecatching when finished. I do like thier two fenders per 'snack tray' hanging method though. (I miss my old job:( ) - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  5. Ok ok, you talked me into it - will build it up with the heads from the old motor once they're resurfaced. What all would I need to do to that shortblock to prepare for having it honed? good excuse to have you and russ pimpin up here (wabbit, wagon, wrx, I don't care ) also if you just wanted to do some wrenching, lord knows I have the projects lined up :-p - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  6. thanks for all the replies guys - Feels good to know I was right in all my assumptions. Used the finger method in conjuction with the timing marks before I asked - but I'm always one to ask once, adjust twice, so it works the first time. Also thanks to all your advice if I am a total idiot and do it wrong - I know where to switch the plug-wires to! - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  7. Saweeeeet This is exactly what I'm thinking (have it at correct TDC right now) Piston is all the way up - at the dead-spot between exhaust and intake - which happens to be the '0' on the flywheel. Should have been more specific to the question though I also need to know if TDC for Cyl #1 is the same for Cyl#2 (it appears to be the same timing mark/place) - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  8. I need to find TDC for cyl #1 using only the rocker-arms and pushrods - and of course the timing marks. First so I can install the distributor, then so I can adjust the rest of the valves before I drop the engine back in the car... So you guys no, I'm not an idiot who took everything apart without marking - disty/cap/plugs were already pulled when I reached the car... Quick responses are greatly appreciated btw - I want this puppy wrapped up! thanks in advance - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  9. Thanks for all the replies guys - I have my eggs in my $124 basket (longblock) from PAP now - block looks generally clean, oil wasn't milky, (or in a puddle in the air-filter housing) and they have a newer filter on there so they at least cared enough to change it... now we'll see how it adjustst and installs and :gasp: maybe it even runs! - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  10. At the JY tomorrow I dont have a lot of time, nor does my helper - I want to be at least 90% sure the heads on the long-block I'm picking up are good. SO - any tricks-tips for telling if a head is cracked without pulling it? fyi - I will pull the heads if need be, so if thats what you're going to recommend, its definately an option. - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  11. I know I know - was doing this as a secondary measure (like me - some folks scope the board without signing in from other locations) - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  12. Between the humongoid rack (awesome), lift, and those tires - you're going to have to start listing the hight of your car in "elevation" And the stencil is very cool too - script is very fitting especially to lifted EA-81 roo's - something about them strikes me as the militant crudeness/efficiency equation. But I know I'm just wierd:-p - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  13. Looking good, as I'm always curious as I worked in a shop like that for awhile - how much is that running you? (if you dont mind me asking) - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  14. BTW - I'm in no way badmouthing Matt - he didn't screw me over in any way to his knowlege (there was no oil in the water, water in the oil - so he assumed the head was fine... which it is) Brian: the 81-stocker wagon GL (my lifted is the 82) - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  15. Actually I didn't drive the car with this problem at all - only into my garage. I'm sure you old-timers remember Chewy/Matt - I bought it from him, and he said it always acted wierd since he got it from someone down in Oregon (if any of you remember, this is the car that had the 14" australian wheels on it... ) Thats a reasonable guess Skip - at least it sounds like it makes sense. - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  16. I Need to talk to you about that engine you bought from Rob (the one that I was about 2 hours too late warning you that Zap had one...) you can PM/Email/call me (253) 219-6722 - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  17. I'm referring to the fat chunk of block missing between the two cylinders. Corrosion doesn't bother me that much in comparison N. Ursalia: I have no experience with JB weld - so pardon my ignorance - are you being sarcastic or serious? - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  18. Got the head off - and didn't expect THIS: Methinks Mescrewed! Any suggestions - is there any way Im just being nuerotic, or is it that bad.... always looking for a bright side..... The heads are good! - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  19. This seems like a perfect chance for me to get some experience - never done any racing. Would folks hate me if I um.... Suck? (Matt - you are excluded) Either way - I might try and make it in a wagon, and if that doesn't happen - you'll get a great laugh when I take my mom's (I even got the 'ok'!) 4th gen nova with "GRRRR" straight 6! Any tips? (can email or PM them if you dont want to junk up this post) - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  20. Welcome to the land of Dual-Range Sweet score though..... had it long enough for specific plans? (wheeler, rallycross..... daily driver?) - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  21. 81 Wagon : No 82 Wagon: Yes (lift, big tires etc) 83 Brat: Not at the moment, but I'll be converting soon
  22. I'd be interested if you wanted to make/sell more. (converting my brat to 4spd d/r)... If not I'll do it myself. If you are serious about it shoot me an email at ThisRoosLifted@aol.com - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  23. Caleb, that is a picture you guys do NOT want to see - personally with the style radio I have I dont have enough space behind (its in the lower-slot) -, so the knobs stick way out if you have a flat-front tape/CD player it may be better though Has a kind of "pregnant L" shape - basically where the stock radio + whatever else (tray, tape deck etc) and the area under the ashtray (but leaves it operational) - ok ok, i'll take a pic :-p - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  24. I think you're confusing those with the ones SubaruTex was selling from his RX afer he converted to 5 bolt... Nice score though. - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
