  1. Thanks for the tips - I have a heavy duty angle-grinder and metal cutting dics (no air compressor here) so I've got that covered - not sure if I'm going to use my genera-dremel (nikota) or a non-metal grinding disc... decisions decisions Sean - different sacrifices are always made for exactly how we want our cars, even though I have 4 inches of lift in the front, I still need to trim the rearward edge of the fender by about 1/2 to a full inch because I have 6 bolt hubs and toyota truck wheels/tires (have a much more positive offset than pugs/stock soob wheels) So they swing out and smack the rear and give me an awful nice "magic fingers" kinda sensation in my ride :-p - You're tips are valuble and that wagon of yours is sharp!!! (not sure if you noticed by the spec of turn sig. but there is an 81 right next to my 82 in the garage) and yes, I'm a soob-pic junkie. - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  2. Well - here is the product of a couple days last year, last night and a short while this evening: Got the bumper when it was white w/some aircraft stripper on it, refurbished it - used the semi-ok bumper end caps, but had to drill new holes in the fenders for thier attachment and beat in some behind-fender tabs to get the brackets to fit. Anyone has one of these bumpers - CONSULT ME BEFORE PUTTING IT ON TO SAVE YOURSELF SOME HEADACHE.... Or you can make fun of me cause I'm a moron, either way:D Any comments, questions?? NEXT: Fender trimmage - with a attached question, those who have trimmed them, any tips for keeping the edge not so razor-sharp? - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  3. BADHTCH BRNBEAR (not sure if this will be a lifted rig) Odd_4x4 *no one steal this other than him... i may be looking at personalized plates from this one ;-) in keeping with "gogogo" GO-BB-GO (go baby go!) or - my personal fav. (also may use some day) "WHY_NOT" - Erik Hosa - Tacoma,WA -
  4. Subaru drawings, computer art, pottery, photography, stained glass, spraypaint, charactures of cars are fun, murals, signs, printmaking, silkscreening, wire sculpture, and abstract form/function ceramics are a favorite as well. And not sure if this qualifies but ideas for custom furniture and interior design I've taken great interest in. Scanner is down which sucks... - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  5. Eric - Sorry to take up board space with this, but for some reason I can't PM you and your email is private... I need to ask you about a few things since I'm buying Matt's wagon. Wanted to know if your offer to Matt (on that engine) would transfer over to me? You can respond by PM or email me at Bratwerst@subaru4wd.net - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  6. C'MON Mike! - "Da-Bling-Bling-BAJA" would be uh...um... yea, that would be lame, nevermind. Is it John? (i know he was working for lifts on new soobs, right?) - The turbo sounds pretty cool on a baja though, make it that much more exciting/less boring (in the glass half-empty/half-full sorta way) - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  7. sounds overly simple - but it costs nothing if this is it - check any/all vacuum lines as well as the spray-around the carb base trick... it sounds just like what My dad did - except of course mines an auto so it behaves a little differently. Just a suggestion... - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  8. bro - you gotta PM me tomorrow with all the details, who, what, where, when, how much, glass-rust-tires... I GOTTA KNOW!!! but man - nice fareekin score, I'll have to see this in person:brow: - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  9. I have varying(sp?) opinions on this - I'm going to be swapping out my EA-81 automatic from my brat because reverse seems to have bitten the dust, but it still goes fine in Drive. It has 180,000 miles that (by the condition of the rest of the car) were anything but 'babied' miles. A friend whos had a buttload of soobs said the EA-81s are WAAAAY better than the EA-82 auto-trannies, and that overall for an import automatic, it wasn't that bad. I really just think its how lucky you are in finding a low-miles/well maintained one. And as always - I said good stuff, but I'm also converting to 4spd:drunk: - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  10. Man, I (we - my family) needs your kind of luck as far as getting tickets when getting pulled over. But yea, watch it - I know you dont' want to be paying any more for insurance (if you dont you'll be paying as much as I have to!!) - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  11. Oh yea, and out of my own stupidity I forgot that my brat is running 14" pugs (and spare sitting in the bed) and that I can answer your precise question. Caleb is right they don't fit under the hood. (Caleb, I think we're running the same rims - oval slots?) - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  12. My answer would be 'NOT' - a fullsize spare on a stock 13" rim is a tight fit. And with the tire on my 14' chevy-luv rim (my spare, my car is redrilled for 6 bolt) it was not even a close fit... Best advice is to invest in a roof-rack (I am!) - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  13. PRIME!!!!!! The bedliner needs something to really 'grab' onto, that is the most important thing. Who cares if you cant scuff it if its flaking off. I have both good/bad examples with this....... don't ask - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  14. ***AREAS**** of Washington where there is no smog testing. People along the I-5 corridor need emissions testing for a fact. sorry - not trying to get off topic - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  15. Hopefully I'm not talking out of the wrong end here - but the only different 6 lugs are ford/mazda and dodge trucks?? - and I'm not sure but I think they're the same. What works are: Toyota Chevy Nissan Mitsubishi Not sure about Isuzu? - I think they're the same - and I know this is WAAAAAYYY back - but *MY* spare is off of a Chevy Luv. (What I was originally looking for before I got the BRAT; full-circle eh???) Hope this helps - and even more so; I hope I'm right on all of this! - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  16. Is that a BODY KIT I see on that red Brumby?!?!?!?! - I like both the Brumbys and the WRX; that RX-7 isn't too shabby either. I love seeing pics of cars from other places, almost makes me feel normal in my obsession er... "hobby".... - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  17. That is too funny - I originally typed out the message ending "unless you have dropped and EA-82 into an EA-81 car" but I decided to leave it out assuming it would confuse more than help. I now know who TomRHere is - recognize his name/EA-82 Brat from the yahoo brat club (I'm chevyguy22) Have fun with your weber - that puppy should move - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  18. Do you mean your car is an EA-82 or a 1982 IF its a 1982 than its a pushrod EA-81 1.8L - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  19. Before And Russ: SHHHHHHHHHHHHH!:-p
  20. Also - In thinking about different ways of doing it and what the cost would be. It would be helpful to give a ballpark guestimate on what you have to spend on this project One route would be easier to just have a frame made and mount the suspension/driveline to it and go from there with finding a glass body etc.. Heres what I did when I was bored for a frame/glass or frame/sheet aluminum.... or theres the budget route (what I'd choose personally) is get a rust free wagon, have the undercarriage professionally stripped (rockers too) have someone weld/patch up any of the holes punched in the unibody so that no salt/water/sand can get in and sit there and have them HEAVILY undercoated - look into POR-15 products. And if a bed is super-important - just have someone chop the roof of an EA-82 wagon and have it heavily re-inforced/add rollbars. Bums me out I dont have the tools (and experience) for that matter for this - best of luck to you though! - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA
  21. I know you said fiberglass - but another option to look into is aluminum, light, wont rust.... just build the frame in steel and seal/undercoat the bejeeezus out of it - and have aluminum panels mounted on it (might end up looking a little 'hummerish' with exposed screws/bolts but it'd be functional/cheap/and not rusting away. Just throwing Ideas around because unless you want to spend gobs of money or have really good fiberglassing friend - theres no easy way to a custom glass-body - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  22. Good show! I love things like this. I too have had several cars broken into and it sucks that things like this need to be done because of some &%@... yea - but seems it brought better ideas about - and you executed them well (I've been talking with a friend about something similar with his wagon - different execution though) So hows it sound? We already know it looks... um... non existant - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
  23. Not sure if I have a picture of the one that came with my brat - but it was a different bad - the fins were mostly still there - but bent to all hell.. but the supports on both top and bottom and busted off and the whole passenger side was tweaked about 1/3 off where it should have been - doesnt sound bad but for reference the only thing really holding it in by a zip-tie and 1 bolt when I took it out to replace it (cap 'neck' was toast so thats what made me take the plunge for a new one) and I had to beat the 'peg' in the support back about 3 inches to fit the new one in :brolleye: - Erik Hosa - Tacoma, WA -
