  1. Hey, Do timing belts shrink? I am getting an after ignition sound out the valve side on driver cyl head that goes away after 1500rpm or so. If letting exhaust out too soon, (and running good otherwise) wouldn't the belt have to shrink?:-\
  2. replacing resonator with something else with a packing (glasspack) was good for me personally, keeping factory muffler. gives a nice rumble mellow bellow and greater take-off thru the rpm range. Of course I had a serious problem with a squashed pipe behind first cat that made way too much heat for the second one, so replacing it may not help you, I pretty much had to..:-\
  3. Very true about advance, my brother in law was manager here at advance. Lucky to have someone patient to cross reference some stuff and take time to verify parts. He is no longer there,I recently got wrong wheel bearing delivered inside correct box...... "if it ain't a chevy..who cares." makes me want to:banghead:
  4. Like that hitch in the wagon! A friend did something similar, worked very well. Would not attempt on 2wd any model!
  5. I think what I did has a good go..just took it out on quick errand. Turned on heat, flew onto the highway without a speedo bounce. It surprised me how quick it gets to 70 on a speedo that works! No wonder I got a speeding ticket climbing a rather steep hill.I always thought it had pretty good take off....now I can verify it besides the engine noise and sound of tires grabbing.
  6. hey thanks, sounds like a deal. Are thier laws for speedo change? I don't know anything about it. Will wait out for grease to act a bit longer, when speedo decides to be fluid movement it is working quite well.I even let oil go down the cable as I tinkered with cluster for awhile. Will check back with you if it does not work and another local source won't sell what I need. I cant find anything at local junk yards, very strange.
  7. I took dash all apart today after a 68mph speeding ticket in a 55mph zone(my speedo is not accurate).I lubed up cable where chuck is to go into odemeter and found a way to squash some grease into odometer. It works a bit better but there is still something sticking. Is the cable at the tranny end a straight gear? Now every time speedometer finds a different place to stick there is a strong plastic type odor(The grease did loosen something....).
  8. I have same color sedan That's is a lot of power. Did you brace anything in the trunk on the sedan? I found something weird back there, not a weakness but a bender/twister below rear window.... After that hunch I lost rear bearings simultaneously in a way that took the 2 rear wheels steering to the right. I search for this "torque on the body" stuff since my GM v8 and a t-top coupe (damn near catastrophe!). 4wd must be a big help to disperse power.Very Nice setup.
  9. I am curious about EA82T and thier mods. They aren't popular here due to the extreme elements(shamefully). In fact the non-turbo old carbuerated would be more popular than the SPFI if more available. I have read about enthusiastic projects elsewhere and am curious what is the most an EA82T has achieved. I did find an old rx (87ish 4 headlights) rusting away, (unless it just looks like one with a turbo) and may dive in to the challenge if owner lets go.I have fantastic luck with the higher compression and tinkering, no turbo or EGR at all.
  10. Awesome lookin machine! What does that engine have for power?
  11. I didn't even know they made an adapter. I am dead ends all over Maine with my Loyale... (I blamed obesity) err hum. What a lovely spring for shorts and tank tops and windows down with your favorite music on and .. oh no. The feminine goodyear blimp bearing it all! But anyway, here is what I ended up with for a total cost of nothing..... http://93loyale.50megs.com/rayd0.html I even found delcos with cd player. All unintentional cheap ingenuity.I can't even laugh these results off.
  12. ingenuity is the best way out for the radio. do whatever seems right. The only thing subaru I ended up keeping (for another radio) is the spot to put the radio in. Many ways to get it done. The shared ground for after market radios is a real nuisance- may not even function. Running for four channels new wire is great step towards universal and further ingenuity.
  13. Definately worth a try. After seeing new parts supposedly sealed and greased (like cv joints). I will stick with the noisy and old pulleys, obviously still doing thier job, and grease them myself For Real. High temp synthetic (420 degrees!) seems to be miraculous on my other stuff. Even brakes stayed cooler when I used it on front cv.I literally gained hp with the good grease. I wonder what all those pulleys "super" greased will add.... Thanks again. Your tasks there are very much my similar thoughts on getting it done
  14. I guess I could repack some and replace the turbo sounding ones. Although not knowing which ones are noisy, I may just have to get all of them. Sounds like several whistles and whining from under there! Thanks for advice.
  15. Thanks. Come to think of it, my old suby hit 80psi with valve noise when cold and when the guage suddenly dropped to 60 everything got quiet. I bet it is same scenario. Everything is simply doing its job.My worry is how long it makes noise.I guess I can put in a direct line guage where the clock is burnt to find out..... After figuring how many times a roller spins in a wheel bearing with 149k miles, I will most likely change every little spinner behind timing cover, including oil pump (its in the billions and billions....).
  16. Hey! What triggers oil pressure relief on a cold engine? I am convinced it is this (without guage yet) as a valve cover was loose on passenger side and it really pumped it out. Only when cold. Do I need pump? I also found the springs that regulate relief this in tech manual. Do those need to be replaced? The valve noise is going on longer than I am used to. Fresh oil changes prolong this noise. I am at 150k...... Any advice appreciated.
  17. You have pretty much said it all from what I can see. Is fuel at 21psi? A pump too low or high can do strange things to OEM regulator.
  18. Oil in coolant would happen when engine is cold most likely. Water expands and pressurizes, so if there is a way for the 2 fluids to interact, the water wins with higher pressure. I bet it went for a hell ride from cold stolen start.Sitting the 1.8 is miraculous cure.....
  19. If you know it isn't wheels. check center of driveshaft where it can bounce around. If good, you may need front half or back half. out of balance is more annoying than breaking the culprit all at once. Wheel bearing grease can also be culprit.
  20. I did something similar after the donut was on , drove donut on rim. The tranny made one hell of a noise at (I am assuming) the cv joint inner (a clunk). Messing around in the snow the following winter had one tire spinning forward, the other backwards! Four tires the same and about 4000 miles it went back to normal, without any noise. On the rim gives two different speeds on differential. Long term trip may bring trouble. I don't know how it works in tranny, but it really cured itself (luckily).
  21. I think I've got it now.... The sun was directly in front of me large and bright as I headed exactly west in the afternoon (level out the windshield, I even had to put my hand up for protection to see...) The sun was sucking me in its direction via the subaru aliens who wanted to beam me to another dimensia..... I hate science without answers. I babble like a kid with no explanation but analogy.:-\
  22. Does 2wd have same flywheel as 4wd? there was something very balanced and powerful happening silently for me to glide that far. I am still bewildered. The drag of the belts taken away left engine unhindered and simply idling , not powering the car at all. How did it do it? Some kinda forward gyro? :-\
  23. http://93loyale.50megs.com/rayd0.html and after strike two....
  24. I could accurately say lack of power is big reason and small wheels. I gave up the 4wd as I am a highway and long trip kinda guy with my ea82. The spfi on 2wd is still not even bringing a complaint to take off speed and braking. The next 4wd for me by subaru would have to be bigger engine to do what I do now contently with the little one. And my 93 didnt have rear speakers either, I hacked a radio in cheaply from a chevy and added 40ft of my own wire to avoid ground sharing. I made website (I liked the cheap results that much!) It's not beautiful, but I can't say as I could make a better cheap function. http://93loyale.50megs.co/rayd0
