I was reading how those superchargers worked. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question122.htm Above site is where I started. Why did mainstream production go with a turbo anyway? Turbos are hot, they lag, inconsistent, need a "special" rpm to function and die at another "special" rpm. they are hard on an engine even after killing a realistic physical compression, to mimic that physical compression with inconsistent air.I have only seen one supercharger run (the roots lookin one) and thier was no thought of intercooler, it didnt need it. I saw the centrifugal supercharger and thought "that really makes sense" (truly). Why challenge the 87 quick burn octane? A big 'ol sloppy burnin diesel seems to be a great place for a turbo, like a tractor trailer rig. Am I retarded or what? I cringe at the thought of an exhaust driven turbo! Someone enlighten me? :-\ And even if to go with a charge of air, why pressure it? I would think to buffer the 180 "full stroke fire" needed for a 4-banger to run good would do well with a little boost to help and nothing more, while keeping high physical compression.A balance of n/a durability and natural precision, And helping it a little....not much... seems like an engine I'd like to see:burnout:

Anyone experimented with superchargers on subes? I found a sube manufactured with it (looked like a new brat 2.5rs), and a site claiming the wrx was going to get one. I remember an old pump for recycling purposes on a 70's v8 I had, that really cranked some air out, small enough to fit where the A/C pump is on the old sube. On the v8 it did nothing, but the tiny EA82 may get something out of it.Anyone try something like it?
-
At the miles you mentioned my old sube absolutely had to have more air. No more excuses. I changed a few things and it doesn't even matter the gas station I go to anymore, there are no pings. (being sure all else was good, like your car seems to be) this is site with an idea of what it took to stop it .Pictures easily say it all: http://93loyale.50megs.com/ntakt.html

40 Miles per gallon with ol Gl wagon
bgd73 replied to roadsubiedog's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
40 is no surprise except for its doing at 297k miles! Does gl have power steering? I had DL carbed manual everything 4wd that hit sprites of over 50. Highway trips at 70 was in the 40's and at its worst was winter in the mid 30's. I bet I won't see anything like that 4wd combo again....shamefully :-\ Even my 2wd loyale SPFI 5spd doesnt even come close to the jaw dropping DL, I can't quite figure it out, unless the a/c compressor and power steering would have to disappear. -
do you turn in your cams for the job or do they supply them?
-
Oh. They do add material. A nice snappy high revving cam in a 2wd sedan would be nice. Let the low end die a bit, transaxles don't last very long anyway...Who's got some decent numbers for long duration high lift for an ea82?
-
If grinding cams takes away duration and lift, then it changes tight range to an even higher rpm? If there is a problem with "the fat oem cams" (that is really funny to say out loud). Your car has a problem elsewhere, especially turbo- they love the air if you get it in right. I have twice taken the powerless ea82 and simply given it air , proper exhaust pipes and tight timing, to have a power range alot higher through the whole range (that is all you can do to it!). mine really starts to take off at around 3000 (as usual -for any ea82) and I could easily go till something broke without a skip, fart bang or pop to 7000 so far (where I really must let off the old engine- 151k miles), and even at this ,it is still a little engine, just enough to get around.Anybody add lift to the cams, port the little intake a bit, let it whistle what it wants right in....? That would be intereresting, on like 11:1 compression (or of course big turbo's cooled on lower compression). Fun, fun.

A $250 Exhaust on an EA81?(pics and video)
bgd73 replied to A DOG's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
sounds like you gained rpms quicker than normal. I like that part of it I bypassed resonator only on my old sube, was always wondering what full open did.... -
Does the grind tighten duration and leave lift? Keeping all that can get in and the timing tight isn't the best way to get power at all rpm range? The OEM seems conservative already....why grind it? :-\

CANNON BALL RUN! (anyone remember this car?)
bgd73 replied to bryanthompson's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Is that the one that came out of the sky as if to be a spaceship? -
All I had was one bolt design, kinda strange! what were they thinking! To know the more torque you get out of the little engine, the more it wants to loosen the bolt up every time throttle is given (mine came off on the highway) I torqued it by finding a wedge for flywheel, and ignoring any torque specs with a breaker bar until the car was leaning to the pressure of me and all I could do to tighten.

New Scooby Loyale owner - of course: questions
bgd73 replied to Mr. Wob's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You did very good for 400 bucks That car would be 5 times that just a few states away.... You won't regret your soob keeping up on stuff. The codes are correct to check the way you mentioned. There is a way to check the codes via a manual downloadable from here someplace, just request it. CEL light on is very common, The egr purging valve and solenoid switch is very common trigger and not a serious problem. A rough idle is most often vacuum leak, but in my case of my latest loyale, it was bizarre problem below the SPFI unit among other unusuals due to an overheat. The grinding noise is something to be inspecting right away. If it is wheal bearings, regreasing is too late, must get new ones. You may get lucky and find something stuck in the brake pads or elsewhere. If you dont mind modding stuff, I am keeping track of my 93 loyale here, you may get some info wanted http://93loyale.50megs.com The 4wd not engaging may be the solenoid that does so. An expert here would no doubt be helpful.Good Luck -
hey! you knew. "QuikRx" is the one I was referring to. Those numbers are incredible. Around here the ea82 turbo did strange incredibly powered things in cool weather and higher oxygen (spring time), USMB and some of the users mods revealed, proved higher power can be there all the time.
-
Anyone done this with thier modded EA82s and have some numbers? would love to see them. If so, possibly document the car for a website I involuntarily paid for . I change little things in both my old soobs to surprise the hell out of myself in relation to power/torque and durability. I would love to document just one super EA82 suby Anybody want to tell all? I spotted one white sedan in here from aus with a claimed 230 hp. I cant remember the user or what post to search for. Your car comes to mind, if interested pm me or email bgd1973@hotmail.com

If the steering knuckle isnt in the way of driver side axle change... does my Loyale have a prob? :-\ I swapped one out last year and it was a smooth operation. A friend with a 70 somethin soob did something bizarre to what holds the engine in (bent below the engine), and that is where steering linking goes.... took a year to find it! (perfect error).I hope its just my paranoid thought of the day..
-
It is a great idea. I did the same thing not for power but to kill an inert heavy chemical that squeezed into the car sometimes. I don't think Subaru knew at higher mileage engines the result of that egr continuing to function. I got outright nautious as well as passengers. the fix does give a clean power/mileage increase cheaply (nowadays priceless with fuel costs) works on spfi too

is 82T rating enough for a soob?
-
hey, I have now got specifically what I need for my web site that will sit and won't need updating. Would love to put your car and its description if it is the following 1993/1994: sedan 4wd wagon 2wd and 4wd and any other Subaru that came oem with an EA82, that is the last of the ea82 for 1993/94 or body style that looks like it. the 2.7 loyale turbo wagon is most welcome as a custom link (I only want a few extraordinary- will pm you). Whatever your real world 13-14 yr old car may look like will finish up what I am trying to do (good only ). The net is good oppurtunity to put this info I couldn't find otherwise.
-
http://93loyale.50megs.com the personal links under "odds and ends" will be "Some fine lookin Loyales (worldwide)" and those links there now will be gone (kinda goofy -takin up space) and then type of car link to its own page. The web site I had just learned ,has been up and running for 42 weeks no errors, it is deemed a good place just give request for background color, etc. However you want it to look in a pm.
-
I made a web site to keep track of my old loyale and the last of ea82's.I ended up subscribing the space for a year. Would love some pics and descriptions of the last of the ea82 cars that stay street and looking good no matter what you did to it for custom changes. Can give each car its own web page. If interested email me or leave msg here. I am no commercial value, banner free, just satisfying an interest. (it will also do away with some goofy personal links I added) Just the loyales- street runners, any model loyales.pictures and descriptions. I have seen a few here, they deserve thier own web page bgd1973@hotmail.com

It finally came off. the sleeve was squeaky clean. I am now divorced from my old car, and I'm not giving it the middle finger again...
-
Ok. this is what *not* to do with an old subaru wheel bearing. How do I get this off my finger?
-
I realize this is old post, but up same alley as my question... How do AA wheels fit on normal non-lifted suby or a 2wd. The only pics I found show them sticking way out of fender wells.I contacted AA for more pics and no response. $400 before shipping is still less than what I can't find. 13 years and 200k on crappy 13 inch suby wheels... 15 inch new would go even farther. What is another 10-20 years for 400 bucks?
-
3rd reply to myself... Keeping track of what I do to my old loyale (I "strangely" believe it is a classic to be). here is a quick web page of what fixed my prob. I bet it is lurking on many spfi loyales out there...... http://93loyale.50megs.com/unrest.html The pictures say just about everything.
