can't get the trick of programming 01 forester remote
1 Lucky Texan replied to subegrl's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXyeah, from the link provided above; 8. Program remotes: works on Alpine system. Unlock all doors, foot on brake, all doors closed. Cycle key quickly but carefully on-off appr 10 times until the car honks one time. Do not turn the key far enough to start the car, just to the 'on' position so the dashboard lights up. When the horn honks, open and close the driver's door, press any remote button and that's it. Program another remote? Quickly open and close the driver's door again and push a button on the 2nd remote. That's it. When you're done, remove the key and the horn should honk 3 times. You're all set. Sometime it takes more than 10 on-offs to set program mode. Open/close the door, lock/unlock etc, wait 10 minutes, then try again. OR take it to the dealer. I'd expect they could do that at no charge. Did you buy a replacement remote from EBAY or somewhere? I've heard on some systems the freq./code/whatever numbers on the back matter. Carl

1 Lucky Texan replied to njdrsubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYeah, Arlington lake is pretty small, its a coolant reservoir for an electric utility and my citiy's main water supply. Not big and the 'yacht club' is tiny as well. It's just near my house and I took a few pics there once. you can see across the lake to one of the generating plants in this pic; Carl

1 Lucky Texan replied to njdrsubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI remember when the 06 came out and there was this long thread at NASIOC about how ugly it was and it looked like this or that. I asked anyone if they wanted to discuss the ;shorter throw shifter, conical 1st gear synchronizers, variable valve timing, air pump replacing front cat., alloy control arm, aluminum hood, diiferent IC, lower peak torque point OR the additional .5 liter displacement! I still think my car has the face of a Samurai warrior; please......, - folks in a SUBARU forum complaining about odd looking cars! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Carl

Building up a 2.2
1 Lucky Texan replied to Jibs's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAnother issue might be finding high enough octane (affordable) fuel for a seriously built-up engine. You can try getting a drum of xylene and mixing up your own I guess. Carl

Building up a 2.2
1 Lucky Texan replied to Jibs's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXFrom what I've read, you want high velocity and smooth piping to maintain low end torque. 3" is definitlely too big unless you're over about 300hp. 2.25 or maybe 2.5 ? Someone here will know better.

Getting New Struts Will WRX Springs Work?
1 Lucky Texan replied to mtnbob's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCheck over at http://www.boxer4racing.com - maybe email Dale Teague there and tell him what you want. They have a few more legacy items than some folks. Also, the above or other folks may have some Legacy 'take-offs' that are new-ish. If someone HAS lowered their Legacy, you might get barely used OEM for cheap. Carl

i'm broke and need some ghetto ideas
1 Lucky Texan replied to eventoday's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI had a Honda once that started spraying from the oil filter! I had been working on it (crashed piston #2 into the valves when the TB broke) and, it was apart for quite a while. I guess the oil pressure relief valve gummed up and when I started it after re-assembly oil sprayed all over the garage door! Carl

So, whats with springs 'settling'?
no problem on the pics. I still haven't managed to destroy the stock pads yet and the dust is medium/light grey from them(well, I suppose also colored by rotor 'dust'). Also, it helps if the pics are shot within a few days of a wash/wax! Carl
-
So, whats with springs 'settling'?
Thanx, it is a daily driver and just didn't want a 'rice' drop - even for the looks. But I've learned from setright and others about roll centers and bump steer too - so a severe drop was outta the question anyway. Carl
-
So, whats with springs 'settling'?
The springs reduce squat, nosedive and roll. So far I have no complaints - sure, the ride is a little more 'sporty' but not as harsh as my old Datsun convertible - probably because it had very little suspension travel. The car definetly has less squat on take off and, although it may be just my imagination, I SEEM to able to get off the clutch a little faster with less 'oscillation' front to back.(I don't feel I'm a great driver anyway - but it seems to help a little) There is significant reduction in roll. I aslo had stainless braided brakelines installed - They do not seem to make as significant a difference as anticipated and now I have a little buyer's remorse - glad I got the dealership to match the online price! Going with Sube parts, I do not void my warranty either. Ryan at Teape Subaru really made an effort to get prices down (parts and labor rate) and even got me a loaner! I'd do everything the same except maybe not the s'less brakelines. I may be able to get to 1 or 2 track events this year. I hope to someday get MY skills up to where the car deserves them to be! hah! I love my car. Carl
-
So, whats with springs 'settling'?
this is before the spring install; this is after the install - not a huge drop, but 'just right';
-
So, whats with springs 'settling'?
The new springs are AWESOME! drive great and I couldn't be happier with the drop - not slammed, just evens out the wheel gap in a nice symmetrical way. Maybe photos in a day or two. Carl
-
So, whats with springs 'settling'?
That makes sense to me, can't see it being much if any different from a new car - if they're installed correctly. just wondering Carl
-
So, whats with springs 'settling'?
Getting some springs put on, will they really 'settle' or is there anything to watch out for? Sti wagon spec pinks from subaru - not much lowering maybe 20mm +/- Carl

Tone, sound at high speed
OK thanx guys. I might be able to more safely test the ideas the next time we have some strong, steady winds. Driving a new Forester right now, a lonaer while the WRX is getting some work done (2-3 minor warranty issues and wagon-spec STi pink springs and stainless braided brake lines!) The Forester is very nice, less tranny whine than my wife's H6 OBW but a little more wind noise (they may have the cross bars on the roof rack in the wrong pos. I suppose) and a lot more engine noise under hard acceleration. Seems to handle the corners better than the one I test drove in '03 though. OH - Ryan at Teape Subaru also showed me a Forester Sports, cool new grill plastic (with a HUGE amount of room behind it for a FMIC - wink, wink) and different rims. Its stripped down a little and I guess aimed at the tuner crowd - sorta a cross bewtween the WRX TR and the STi. Looks good. If anyone here is in D/FW area, Ryan Taylor is the guy to speak to for dealer service, he's a 'real' soob enthusiast (ask to see his STi tattoo!) and I'm getting prices matched/nearly matched to online prices on my parts AND a significant break on the labor rate AND a LOANER car!!! Tone, sound at high speed
good thought I think, my first thoughts were windshield wiper arm or mirror. Its in the 400hz range - just wondering if there was a known 'speed warning' or ?
-
Tone, sound at high speed
It's very 'abrupt' at initiation - but not quite so much that I can rule out a wind whistle as you say - but is very pure in tone, not 'airy' or 'white noise-ish' at all. Carl
-
Tone, sound at high speed
Is there a speed 'warning' tone in an '06 WRX? On a couple of occasions, I've heard a very 'musical' tone at very high speed.(near top speed - I guess) NOT a velocity I get too often OK? But, I wonder if its a 'whistle' or what? It 'seems' to come from the pass dash/floor area. Maybe someday I'll try it with the mirrors folded in. Carl
