  1. just get a K&N panel filter and cut off the bottom of your airbox... its a nice upgrade.. but a cone filter in the fender would be much better
  2. so what does my RX have.. its full time... dual range, with the center lock (saved me a couple times).. hows that work? the rear lsd is so much fun, its funny when people see me flick the car rally style, and kick it sideways around a corner in the rain with the diff lock on... with difflock off, it dosent like to go sideways too easy..
  3. its the dissy making noise, i can feel it when i touch it... changed the cap, rotor, plugs, and wires while i was in there.. some idiot stripped the screw out on the rotor, so I had to yank it out to get the screw off.. it seemed fine, not loose at all... maybe it is the timing belt... would that echo down the camshaft to the dissy? cuz i hear something... lol maybe the gears are rough.. but a loose timing belt would make a knocking sound eh? guess ill take it apart! let me know what you find too! Bean
  4. so - what you are saying is, the exhaust flange on the legacy turbo is the same as the ea82t, but the it points all the wrong way? .. cant you rotate the compressor housing? or is the turbo setup to sit the wrong way...
  5. well, I dont know the exact procedure, but.. its a good idea to balance it because they do spin at 120,000 rpms + even if its just a little off, at that speed.. it could be a problem.. im sure you could get away with not doing it, but that would imact the life of your turbo's bearings.. bean
  6. i drove it all around today.. noise comes and goes, it cant be a rod.. must be piston slap.. oh well, at 155k its had a good life, and still got enough guts to run the friggin ricers off the road, while staying ahead of the SUV's
  7. you can make a vacumn pump out of an old busted rump roast refridgerator
  8. yeah if i go to 4000rpms, hold it - no noise.. smooth, but if i barely rev it from that point, its like you hear a very paint grrr.. grrrr... like a rod, but not.. guess its just normal sounds... it just worries me. whats piston slap? .. im not familiar with that term..
  9. and that would make a little quiet knocking noise if it was loose... I dont think im gonna sleep well till i look at that...
  10. i should say.. you can BARELY hear it... its not sharp at all, its acutally more of a thump.. and sometimes its loud, sometimes you cant hear it... its gotta be the distributor, any way to check?
  11. i was digging full my cars previous owners service records, and towards the end - it listed "distributor knocking" and timing belt noise... god, please dont be a rod... that would be horrible... i of course wouldnt buy a junkyard motor, when i can rebuild this one for pretty cheap, with nice strong internals.. but I really dont want it to come to that..
  12. i would offer it, but id prolly get jumped by 1000 people, and.. my drift car needs it, it looked so mean when i had my girlfreind and my friend hold the side skirt up there for me to check out.. although, it would look really nice on a brat... im conflicted now
  13. well, when you hook things up backwards, alot can happen.. a freind did that on a 97 ford sho, and he fried the main relay, along with the computer.. double check all your connections.
  14. whatever you do - dont think about engine oil stop leak... your leak will stop, but you run the risk of clogging something up..
  15. 1)it was a joke.... 2)calm down.. 3)I have a spare RX kit im going to put to use on my isuzu drift car.. a subaru could never be rice... sorry i rubbed you the wrong way...
  16. yall and your fake rx's... pfff.. RICERS... j/k im just stirrin the bowl, and workin on the post count... I like the kit on the rx, and the ultimate would be to see that on a brat, or a wagon... I bought my rx because its different, i like different, so - POST PICS.. its pretty boring down here in texas you know...
  17. P.S., its not the lifters tapping... i just did the pump and gasket as a precaution, even though it wasnt making the noise...
  18. well, i was hoping it would be making a scary sound through a catless downpipe and HKS exhaust.. but this is different.. what kind of noise does a distributor make when its on its way out.. do they knock?? ... i hope its not a rod, not at 155k.. the noise is only audiable at idle, or when slowly revving the motor, just barley bumping the gas - kinda like a loose rod, but if it WAS a rod, if held at a constant rpm then loading the motor, it would knock... but this only knocks when revving the motor slowly, at constant rpms, theres no knock... ehh, sorry for the long winded stuff, but - maybe the motor just sounds like that... im used to the sounds of nissan vg30's, very tight bottom ends.. any ideas?
  19. i thought you were suposed to use "ester" oil when converting.. thats what i always use when i do a conversion... heres what i did on all my cars 85 300zx 88 F-150 90 Escort 92 isuzu pickup 87 impulse get the 134a fitting adapters and a vacumn pump. pull vacumn - check for leaks with gauges... if it leaks, FIX IT... Now, with the system UNDER VACUMN.. go ahead and shoot the oil in, then - about a can of freon.. start the car - turn on the ac, and HOPEFULLY - the compressor will come on, if it dosent, give it some more freon - keep adding it until your at the specified level (pressure ok) and for gods sake MAKE SURE YOUR NOT ON THE HOT SIDE.... if the compresser wont kick, be sure the pressure switch is hooked up, and if you have to jump it, go ahead, but only long enough to get it to stay on by itself.. ive never changed any o-rings, seals, dryers ect.. just a straight up direct conversion with ester oil, and not even flushing the system, unless its been open. ... seems quite compatable considering that they ALL STILL WORK, and i did 3 two summers ago, and the rest last summer.. Im in south texas, and you know how hot it gets here.. maybe ive been lucky, but ****... if you mess yours up dont cry to me ...
  20. dont "ground" yourself to the car and you cant get shocked... but if you do get zapped, time for some new wires... bean
  21. its just the clutch fan - if it goes out - it will either stick on and whir all the time, or just slip, and the motor COULD get hot if you stop in traffic... just remember, if it sticks on all the time, like - ALL the time it could give you poorer fuel economy, and if your fans out of balance, it could cause premature water pump failure.. if it was belts, you would hear a sqeek or squeal, and if the fan clutch is stuck, that also could make the belts squeal because its not designed to be "direct drive" like that.. bean
  22. i think the noise he is talking about would be the clutch fan... when its cold the thermo clutch "grabs" more and then loosens up as it warms, then - if it gets hot enough, "grabs" again to cool the motor... my car does it too.. and its loud as hell when the motor gets warm enough
  23. got it, i reached my arm up there (it got stuck) and used my finger to flip the latch, i got it so, until my part comes from subaru, its rigged with the old cable, ran through the hole tied in a not... hangs just below the bumper, on the front spoiler.. my freind asked what it was, i told him it was my pull start... thanks for your help guys!
  24. havent messed with it yet - heres the messed up part.... I need a new terminal connector on my positive side of the batt. and i have it in the glove box, but havent replaced it yet.. so yeah, im hoping it dosent mess up while i cant open the hood. Ill give it a shot this afternoon..
