Hood release cables- Can they be repaired?

Anyone ever solder or clamp on a new slug at the hood latch end?

I am not currently concerned with the interior handle end,but we all know they bite the dust too.

Anyone score one from the dealer?Cost??

it just easier to change then to fix because there's so many in the jy because they don't break that often

that and i can get some from the jy if you need

on the subject of the handle side, has anyone come up with a satisfactory solution/replacement?

Paul:

You could do an "Alley fix" by dropping a wire attached to the spring activated latch, that can be reached behind the rad near the bottom. Just weigh the wire down with something substantial do it doesn't get lost in the fray. Theives will never figure it out.

As you know, routing a replacement all the way back to the lever can be a chore.

good luck, John

Gabe,I'm pretty well versed in old Subarus and the ones I see are rusting at the slug end and you can tell they won't last too long.If you have one for me I'll be happy to send money ahead of time. ;)

Hey Paul-

If the cable is snapped in two, I've done that repair (back in the 70's). I just pulled both ends of the cable towards each other as tight as I could, and "fastened" them together with a pair of Vise-Grips. Just like Downtown:D .

or you could hook a wire up to the latch and have it dangle out of the grille:D Thats how I had my 79 wagon for awhile until I got around to fixing it:-p

any bright ideas about fixing the interior handle after they split in half? i don't think that it's even possible to replace the handle. I'm just not in the mood to deal with putting another cable in.

Some 15 years ago my handle spilt:eek:

I used CA glue (crazy glue) and it has worked fine ever since:D

I didn't think it would hold but it has!!!!!!

Glenn,

82 Hatch, CA'd knob up for grabs! Summer has hood pins.

01 Forester, Bent but not broken!

It looks like some of you know how to remove the interior handle from a donor car, could you enlighten the rest of us? I admitedly didn't give it much effort last time I was at the yard, but it stumped me...

muchas danke's
