May 1, 201411 yr My rescued project. Lost most of the pix tho. Interior was completely trashed. Fitted a 96 Legacy airbox cos it's more free flowing. Did have a WRX eninge, trans, brakes fitted at one point. My favourite part is the rare rear rubber spoiler (like those that go on the back of RX sedans) And the colour its getting painted (already done the engine bay) when the WRX engine was fitted.
May 1, 201411 yr Great thread, inspiring... I will have to get around to taking pictures of my little neglected treasure!
January 6, 201511 yr Author So the red wagon that started this thread got some upgrades recently, New clutch, 14" Pugs, Rear disc brake conversion, New exhaust, and a 2" lift. Splurged on some fuzzy seat covers since it will be used by the GF this winter. Hopefully she will will go easy on the clutch this season. The 88 blue coupe is the next rescued subaru to be put back on the road, Got it all legal for ther road. Stay tuned. Post up your subarus saved from the crusher, and keep on searching!
January 26, 201511 yr Just picked up this 93 Loyale from Florida. It came into the shop dead. The last owner ran it out of oil, and the engine is seized, (it leaked a ton) It's been up here a while, but is still pretty decent. Has a couple small holes in the trunk, and a small hole in the very rear of both rocker panels, but the floors are amazing. Has 154k on it. FWD five speed. Thinking it may take my black brats place as a lifted project, as this is far more solid, plans are to let it sit a while until I get some of my other projects wrapped up, and then swap in an ea81. After that if I can find a 4x4 rear suspension a dr swap....
February 1, 201511 yr Tdodge41 and I went in on this `84 GL for parts. Honestly, we havent pulled many parts off of it because its been a fun off roader. I installed some 205/60/13 tires on freshly powder coated wagon wheels, and have gutted the interior. It needs some floor work, and the rear bumper and frame rails are long gone, but id love to see it built up to run on the sand dunes. We call it the Swamp Rat
February 2, 201511 yr I am no expert but that looks like a "21 window" bus that is very valuable. In that condition it would still be restored by many VW guys. That's a 23 window bus and yes some guys pay a ton for these . I just don't see it personally. I would rather have a Brat
February 3, 201511 yr How it looked in Summer '11. Rusted and dented, no driver side window, but a bargain @ $400 with 2 spare engines and an extra set of wheels A little elbow grease, and found a driver side window and I enjoyed it for the rest of the Summer. Took all of 2 years but here's how the little guy sits today. Edited February 3, 201511 yr by tundrabrat
February 5, 201511 yr Well It is now safely off of the city streets, It has had many owners and luckily it is all in one piece. Hopefuly it will be back on the road soon. Does anyone know anything else about this EA82 model, like what years it was produced. I'll trade you cars! Haha I have an 89 GL hatch like that that I got for $300. I'll post pics of it when I get to a computer.
June 26, 201510 yr Author Update: Recently acquired a new to me "Search and Rescue" recovery rig. Introducing the Quadravan. This monster will pull a house down, and easily drag home any subarus I find. Happy subaru hunting....... Post up any new "Search and Rescue" stories.
June 26, 201510 yr This 1993 Loyale was posted on CL... The owner said that it had a blown head gasket. He was taking it to the scrap yard the next day... My friend and I ended up going that night to pay for it. ($350) The storms here in Oklahoma were too intense to go over everything with the car... We ended up jumping it, and taking it around the block 4 times until it slowly started to overheat... My friend and I went back a couple of days later to replace the battery and see what we were up against... To my surprise it was just the lack of coolant in the radiator and a small leak in the lower hose!!! This baby hasn't overheated since, and is running like a champ!!! This is a great thread! Can't wait to see more! Edited June 26, 201510 yr by BirdLoyale93

June 30, 201510 yr Thanks Rust! If anyone is in the Oklahoma area... This is worth checking out. Wish I had a space to work on this one. http://tulsa.craigslist.org/cto/5078955661.html
July 1, 201510 yr Hello all, new to this forum, and new to Subies in general. I was looking in general for a DD when I stumbled across this '91 4WD Loyale Wagon on CL for $300 last Tuesday. It was salvage titled due to it being rear ended, which basically leaves me without a hatch. So, I figured, "what the hey, I'll just save it." It has a fair amount of surface rust, some of which has eaten through the body, but only around the wheel wells and the like. It's a 5-speed, power windows, AC, still has the factory AM/FM stereo installed, and it has around 250k on it. It runs and drives, albeit poorly, and the interior is in decent shape with no flaws. The only two quirks I have with it so far (I just bought it and drove it home today) is it shuts off at idle 80% of the time, and the wheels are too small for my likings. Other than that, it's a pretty decent car for what it's worth. Most of my co-workers own Subies (mainly Fozzies and Legacy Outbacks), but now I stand alone in the Loyale Department, but at least I fit in with them now, lol
July 1, 201510 yr Here is a 86 brat, I think it's only one in Guam. Still a work in progress. -Josh Edited July 2, 201510 yr by Joshcal4
June 20, 20169 yr Figure I'd resurrect this thread to show my rescueroo... My $500 XT6 After a half-hearted cleaning: Has a turbo hood, and the LF fender was replaced/repainted but I cant find any major body damage. Air suspension has been swapped for coils. Needs lots of love. We'll see what becomes of it.
June 20, 20169 yr So CSI minds need to know.....what came through that windshield? Ultimately... The end of a relationship. Literally... Her boyfriend's bowling ball.
June 21, 20169 yr Picked this '79 up last month after waiting 6 months for the owner to return to state... $300 and 500 miles round trip and its home. Same deal as the BRAT, lots of metal work ahead of me... but I had to save it. Edited June 21, 20169 yr by tundrabrat
June 21, 20169 yr Hmmm...... looks like an vintage subaru wagon that needs rescuing, before it gets used for target practice like this poor old vw bus. I have no real love for VWs, but I know that bus is worth a ton of money just sitting there. I saw a restored one go for almost 200k last summer on tv.
June 21, 20169 yr I've done several, but this is the one that got the most extensive make over. It started as FWD, I swapped in a 4WD suspension, added a 5speed dual range mated to a fresh motor, a lift, the rarest of rare custom wheels and some other stuff.
October 14, 20169 yr Author Here is some inspiration for all vintage abandoned metal hunters. Not a subaru, but they are out there. happy hunting. Best to view on a large screen. Enjoy
February 16, 20179 yr Author Well not much subaru hunting in the cold winter, but I made a rescue at the local dump yesterday. Found a nice second revision edition of a Subaru Idiot Guide, sitting on a stack of old magazines/newspapers to be recycled. Keep your eyes peeled fellow subaru treasure seekers.
