March 11, 201313 yr Engine starts and idles fine but bogs out and dies at 1500 RPM. I pulled the timing belt covers off to check the timing marks on the cams and it "looks" like it's still right. Swapped out the cam sensor to see if that was the problem but no change. When idling the left cam pulley looks like it might be wobbling slightly but could be an optical illusion. I checked the pulley to see if there was any play but it was solid. Any ideas?
March 11, 201313 yr IMHO I would start by verifying that you have the correct fuel pressure. Also if it has been a long time since you have changed the fuel filter that might be a good thing to do to.
March 11, 201313 yr does it run if you get above 1500rpm? assuming good 'tune-up' parts and general condition, maybe a TPS problem.
March 11, 201313 yr Author Fuel filter was my first thought but no change after being replaced. TPS was recently gone through as well.
March 11, 201313 yr You might have a problem with the MAF sensor. Check the fuel pressure and make sure that is okay also. If those things are good then I would check the compression to see if there is a valve timing issue.

March 11, 201313 yr I would suggest pulling a couple spark plugs and looking to see if they are covered in fuel or not, also check the plug gap. Another piece of information is what plugs do you have in it? Some are known to cause problems. Then go to your MAF and airfilter. Get a can of MAF sensor cleaner and clean the MAF sensor(even if you don't have a code, its still a good idea to do on occasion). Also check fuel pressure as engine rpm is increased, pump might not be putting out enough fuel as the demand is increased.
March 17, 201313 yr Author Fuel pressure 32. Swapped MAF and ECU. No change. New plugs. No change. All vac and pressure lines attached. New timing belt. No change. The only thing I've found out of spec is IAC resistance. 10.5 instead of 9. Would this cause the issue or am I missing something.
March 17, 201313 yr gotta be an unmetered air leak. PCV hoses, and IAC tube double check for cracks maybe put clamps on them.
March 18, 201313 yr Author Negative. 1 Lucky Texan got it right. Clogged cat. I put my wheelin exhaust on because that was the only thing I hadn't tried and it loved it. So frustrating but at least I can go wheeling next weekend.
