February 9, 201412 yr My question here is can you use kyb struts for stock replacement but use a shorter spring to get even just an inch lower? if so is there a spring I can get or would it be alright to just cut the stock springs? This is a 82' 4WD GL. also what about the back? I know I can adjust the torsion bar but idk where its sitting at the moment and if it will get low enough to match the front.
February 9, 201412 yr Try using 2wd front struts. If that isnt enough you can custom order from anyone or cut springs if your on a budget.. I have 4wd springs with 2wd struts it dod lower the front.. Also is much stiffer but the car is 2wd for now anyway.
February 9, 201412 yr Author well I already ordered the gr2s for 4WD. just wondering if I can cut the stock springs an inch or two. or if I can even run shorter springs with these struts. Thankyou!
February 9, 201412 yr you might check the for sale section a board member has ea81 turbo springs in the Vancouver area they will be lower than the stockers. It would be a drive but much cheaper than ordering and you may not need to cut.
February 10, 201412 yr Author So if I use FWD front struts I can use the stock 4WD springs and they will compress and be lower? And what about the rear? Thanks yall!
February 11, 201412 yr Author http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/1983/subaru/gl/suspension/strut_assembly.html Will these work on my 82' 4WD GL?? they are for front wheel drive 83'. im trying to get just a little bit lower by using FWD struts. Can i use the stock 4WD springs with these? Thanks!
February 11, 201412 yr I used these when lowering my Brat, I kept the stock springs: KYB 233024 Edited February 11, 201412 yr by epix
June 5, 201411 yr Author Still looking for springs that I can cut to be shorter and possibly have a stiffer rate. What springs are the same as the stockers? Do ea82 springs sit on the strut and in the top hat the same?
June 10, 201411 yr Author Thank you. Makes sense really.. I just didn't think. I'm gonna experiment and see how some stock springs feel
June 11, 201411 yr If you do end up chopping up springs, don't cut off more than 0.5-1.0 full coils. Your spring rate would be too high for our weak struts.
