Got a visit from the airbag police....

Featured Replies

well, not really

Yesterday, a guy in a Subaru truck, wearing a Subaru shirt/hat/badge, came by my house looking for my WRX. Evidently, he is tasked with replacing pass side airbags. Of course, my car is 30 minutes away with me at work.

Didn't say anything about my wife's Outback (which has had a like-for-like swap already) getting an upgrade. She didn't know enough to ask.

Seems to be out of a regional office in Georgia? not sure, maybe some 3rd party guys hired by SOA?

When I do the airbag thing, much rather do it at a local dealer. Easier to go back if they mess something up.

Never heard of a car company doing something like that...

I know Subaru is pushing folks a lot harder than a few years ago to replace the airbag inflators. Since I picked up the 2005 Outback Sport last year, I've gotten numerous notices from Subaru about the recall, one even offering a discount on parts. I also received one form the DMV. I'd get it done but the car just sits in the yard and there no convenient Subaru dealers nearby. In my case, if SOA sent a guy over to the house, I'd probably say "have at it"

Me either... i would certainly be suspicious of someone coming to my house like that.

Woah!  That’s surprising to me. Did you look into wether or not this is part of Subarus methods?  I wonder if the dealer would know.

That's crazy, haven't heard of that. I would make some phone calls to make sure it's legit.

It easily could be, though. I know Honda is going to great lengths to get these done (since they used Takatas in the driver's side, it's considerably more dangerous).

any other phone numbers besides his?

I would definitely be doing some followup on this.

It "looks" legit, but anyone can have business cards made.

He’s there to swap the air bags - and take your wrx...

I’d be highly suspicious!

If SOA won’t confirm the guy is legit I’d call the police.

subaruairbagrecall.us doesn't appear to have a website (could still be a valid email, but suspicious).

No mention of any mobile repair/contact on https://www.subaru.com/vehicle-recalls/airbags.html

Here's a job posting on LinkedIn, though. https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/recall-specialist-at-marketsource-inc-1692844397

Great find on LinkedIn!

I left a message at MarketSou e's website but, seems legit. A d weird.

Not hard to create a linkd in account. It’s like business Facebook.

Get it in writing from Subaru that this dude is legit and go from there.

Cheers

Legitimacy confirmed by a known Forum participant "at another forum" who happens to be a salesman at a dealership in Oklahoma. He also mentioned there is a push on to get older cars done as they are at greatest risk.

I'm gonna try to schedlule the work soon but at a dealership. Better in case there's an issue afterwards.

I broke down and yesterday let Mr. Perez - gulp - work on my car.

He even swapped the cabin air filter for me (had one on the shelf).

less than an hour.
