August 6, 200421 yr well for a parts cost count the controller be it a full megasquirt is about 150 i think but tats fuel and ignition after modified or just the ignition controller i think thats about 50 ish or a bit more maybe after its all done and built junk yard parts sensor ignition module trigger wheel usually runs me around 25-35 ish a set depending ont he mood of the guy behind the counter coil pack... well new is better in my opinion the machined crank pulley.. well thats someone elses department so i can't actually suggest a finished price if you do it pice by pice its easy to afford if you try and do it all at once.. well i never could have done it then

August 7, 200421 yr well this figures.... went to remove the ring from my crank pulley got almost all of it off... in pieces.. not a problem and then the dam crank pulley itself breaks apart .. so dam close..... now i gotta get a new pulley made somehow this time so i don't have to weld it this... really sucks get so close to saying yay !!!! and poof.... so maybe i won't have it done by wcss.... oh well the ground work is laid for anyone who wants to pick it up
August 7, 200421 yr you know you coulda just removed the roll pin from the pulley and the outer belt drive sprocket and rotated the crank pulley to the correct position..to match your timing specs.. 70 ftlb of torque is MUCH Much more than is needed to keep the pulley from spinning..or am I missing something..?
August 8, 200421 yr well it only took 3 tries.... lots of swearing when i thought i tottaly screwed up the pulley but at work i fixed itlast night did what i should have done in the first place and was suggested to do by more than one person... to dam stubborn i guess 4 pretty close to evenly spaced counter sunk screws with a dolop of locktight and after actually getting the trigger ring set correctly .. well close enough the target for the running base timing at least by the info was for 10 deg before tdc... i ended up with 10.5... maybe 11... it starts quick idles well has little to no miss .. what miss there is i think is caused by incorrect injection timing since its still fired off the disty and not the edis system i now have a nice trickle of water vapor out of the exhaust pipe.. in this case thats a good thing since its a byproduct of proper combustion.. did not have that on the stock subie ignition now to go pull out my megasquirt modify it upload the new code to it and hook it up i figure in the next day or 2 i will start running the dis system full time but leaving the stock disty in palce for at least.. a few weeks just in case i screw something up again but the end result ... is it does work now you can now send your reasearch contributions to my paypal account at.. lol now to go fix someones truck come home have a beer and go to bed in celebration ! may the dis be with you! hey shadow... get ahold of me ...
August 18, 200421 yr well as of about 9:00 am i just finisehd putting about 10-15 miles on the subaru with out using the distributor for ignition ! it still runs teh fuel injection timing but it seems close enough that i can work on tuning the timing before i switch over the injection i have alot of timing mapping to do even with just using the base timing values in the ms it idles starts and runs alot smoother if i go over 5 psi of boost under heavy load it complains and detonates.. but under 5 psi and it pulls almost as much at 10 psi did on the stock ignition woot someone built a knock sensor interface i will have to work on that next as well as retune the timing map so under most normal running it does not ping its alot mroe responsive ohh and that anoyying surge we turbo owners hate... its gone well time finish my beer and head to bed i will be driving to work on the edis setup but if something stops working its jsut a few wires away from stock ignition to get me home again now i need to make some mounts for the coil pack and edis module.. they are kina just "floating "around under the hood right now hehe but i win... it works... it runs it drives. its better !
August 21, 200421 yr well i give up in short yes it does work.. err did work but i don't have teh resources to finalize it i was battleing a small problem with the timing changing after i set it and it was caused by my own stupidty i believe by initially welding the timing ring to the crank pulley i damaged the bonded rubber vibration damper junk so everytime i reset the initial timing ring position to where it should work and then tighten up the power steering and alt belt the outer hub would slip a little bit at a time and since the trigger ring is on the outer hub it throws the timing off and since i have no way to make a solid crank pulley or afford one to be made i pretty much give up on it anyone who wants the info i have to continue pm me a good idea killed by stupidity

August 22, 200421 yr well it was a bad day yesterday but i may have a temp solution till i can scrape up a new pulley i think if i drill about 3 1/8 inch holes into the pulley that run from the centersection up past the rubber crap and into the outer shell that the belts ride on.. i "may" be able to then make up some 1/8 inch pins coat them in some nifty gear locking stuff and drive them into the holes i drilled hopefully that will stop the slipping problem enough to get everything tuned in i hope it works cause it sure was a hell of a change driving it for the short time i did on the edis system even with out the timing maps sets correctly it had lots more power until the pulley started slipping i will try my pinning trick tonight at work.. hopefully it stops raining tomorrow .. dam i need a drill press so i can do stuff at home hmm good thing i am not as "slow" as my typing would indicate

August 24, 200421 yr well got the pulley pinned timing light shows the edis running at base timing of 12-14 deg good enough for me as i can tune it to where it should be now and its close enough to the recommended 10 deg setting gonna go put the alt/powersteering pump belt on now and try and adjust the timing with the computer and go for a short joy ride i hope some of you appriciate this as i am currently working under a leaky tarp in the rain ! since all the sunshine has vanished.. of course i had sun when things where not going right... go figure.. i hope 4 1/8th inch pins are enough to combat the slipping at least until i can get a new pulley "thanks baja" well back with i hope good news i hope it works well enough to get to the mini mart.. outta beer
August 24, 200421 yr well since i finally hooked up the correct wire.. don't ask.. the megasquirt can now control the timing off for a joy ride woot
August 24, 200421 yr hmm i had a long thing typed but due to more stupidity oops but short version it works it works well its adjustable and it works and the pins held under alot of beating i intentionally inflicted on it so it works yay now to tune
August 30, 200421 yr well to and from work a few times and to and from wcss6 welllll over 300 miles on it now no problems out side of getting the timing maps tuned on to the fuel side!

August 31, 200421 yr i think i have already done alot of hardcore testing but i figure after around 1k miles or so then i will call it good i played witht he ignition maps on the way home last night .. btw... who did i pass...twice... in the motor home draggin the white rx? on i5 as far as the fuel side goes just a few wires and findin someone close enough who is crazy enough to ride with me who can use a computer its do able but not wise or easy to program things at 55-60+ mph....
August 31, 200421 yr oddcomp, first i'd like to say i was very impressed with the setup. Congratulations on getting it working. I've always assumed i'd do most of my tuning using the data logging feature. Make a couple runs. Analyze, change, run again.
August 31, 200421 yr fuel wise yeah thats the way to go but ignition wise.. its pretty much 0 feedback except for listening for knock and then seat of the pants feeling wel i mean if it starts to run warmer than usuall.. your to retarted.. on the ignition
August 31, 200421 yr i have a vague idea of what all this does, but it certainly sounds badass. im thinking you would use this to add more fuel, so you can add more boost, and reduce detonation by adjusting when the spark fires. thats certainly up my road
