hum bet its an 81 whats the prodtion date. if its past 06/80 then its an 81. its rare. anyway . i had a 79 wagon with an ea81 that used that trany as its the only one with the linkage in the front for that anyway sweet deal show us some pix. thanks later.

1600 with D/R in anything is rare(read, not factory). It probably is the result of some creative fabrication. I could be wrong but I have never heard of a D/R behind any 1600. Does it have the center or side mount starter?

Hi Ken This is Jerry, Pat's brat is factory. It has the same set up as the 78 he has but 80 has the dual range tranny in it. It is the Ea71 motor has it by the dissy. and the starter is dead center top of bellhouseing. I have another friend that lives in Naches he has 20-30 gen 1 brats and he has 1 with a dual range tranny in it also with the EA71 engine. Thanks Jerry

lets see first off the 76 is not even in the records for SOA and second off the motor that is in it is a EA-65 which is the wrong year for the first thing and also a motor that was never offered here in the states so a early gen1 d/r would fit nicely in that equation

how many headlights?

Hello Well Mick it has single headlights,I will get a picture of the plate for you. Like Jerry said this thing is bone stock. It has some rust but not bad the interior {blue] is perfect cept one spot on drivers seat. sorry to say I think I have traded It off to a future subie dude{ 15 years old ] to his dad for a 1957 four door cadilac hard top. we will see thank you for all your input .........Pat

In 81 they had the 1800 BRAT engine with the starter on top, and the dual range tranny. Probably the same transmission as the 1981 BRAT. I could see how they could have just put them in a year earlier. I think they take the same clutch assembly as the 1600 but don't quote me on that.

richie the 81's had them to the side trust me I know I have a tranny sitting out in the garage from a 81 and also know of another one in St. Helens somewhere that is the same way

1981 the Dual Range was introduced in 3 models, all with 1800 engine

 

81 Brat GL

81 4WD wagon GL

81 4WD hatchback GL

 

the 1980 Parts Manual only shows 1 trans for the Brat.

 

Pat, see if you can find any numbers on the trans. could be a different import like bajas wagon....

Baja, you have a tranny out of a BRAT or other 81 vehicle. I parted out a 81 BRAT about 5 years ago, I will have to go look at the tranny but I thought for sure that it was top mount starter.

k yeah it's from a 1981 BRAT which is still a gen 1 so it has the teepee and cup for the direct mount shifter
