October 23, 200421 yr I was just looking through my stuff when I just happened but some strange unknown reason decided to go through my old stuff I "got " (took from my dads room. This stuff is all older than me). When I happened by pure "chance" to look at a 1980 penthouse mag that I aquired from my dads collection. It has an ad for a Hatchback. I didn't know there was a subaru hatchback back then. The more I look at it the more older honda hatchbacks look like the subaru's. ***** and the price was only $4,799. I like the slogan at the bottom, "Inexpensive. And built to stay that way". I'm gonna have to get me one!
October 23, 200421 yr Im interested in seeing this ad I had a Penthouse collection that included every mag from years 1986-1992 but none of them had Subaru Ad's. My Nat. Geographic Magazine has ad's from years 1984 and some others in 1990-1992. -Brian
October 23, 200421 yr Speakin of Penthouse Magazine my neighbor has the issue with Traci Lords as the centerfold and Vanessa Williams doing her nasty with that other model. It's quite a collectors item but is considered child pornography because of Traci's age (17).
October 23, 200421 yr There are waivers for certain things, like Tracy, and the Olsen Twins..... I remember that Subaru ad, as I recall there are a BRAT and a wagon parked on a golf course. That add was in that one with Pia Zadora as well.
October 23, 200421 yr The sad thing is that I am actually old enough to remember that ad slogan on the television. Oh well...at least I'm still older than the car I drive.
October 23, 200421 yr man I need to dig through my old VCR tapes, cuz I know somewhere I have at least one tape of the Disney Channel from 1987 that my grandparents recorded for me, I should scan through it and see if there are any Subaru ads in there :DI wonder if anyone on here has any old Subaru TV ads, that would be cool
October 23, 200421 yr Author I remember that Subaru ad, as I recall there are a BRAT and a wagon parked on a golf course. That add was in that one with Pia Zadora as well. Actually the ad I have only shows a hatchback.
November 26, 200421 yr The August 1978 Penthouse has a two page article plus a full picture page (Brat has a wind deflector) called Subaru: Well Mannered Brat by Wade Hoyt. Extols the virtues very nicely and priced at only $4,589.00.
November 26, 200421 yr I've got a july of 85 road and track with a review of the XT Turbo in it... Some of the ads are great. One for a Murker, one for a Turbo 4 door dodge colt with the slogan, "Colt. It's all the Japaneese you need to know." Then theres one for the Rx Turbo. "The first Subaru that tests the driver's performance." it says. Its got a D/R 5speed, struts and an LSD... Also claims that only 1500 were made. Same slogan as said before though.... What else? Nissian Stanza wagon now with dual sliding doors.... I think the market place ads are the best.... kinda wished I could still get some of these gems....69 Alfa GTV for $3800.. Ohh the best is the title to the article on the Ru.... "Subaru 4WD Turbo XT Coupe 'Anchient religions and hokey weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid' -Han Solo" The article praises the car, but calls it... "gimmicky", and they compair it to a prelude.... and the preludes suspension being "more crisp" They say how nice it is, then bash it about its looks, and everything I find cool. Sorry I kinda went off there
November 26, 200421 yr Somewhere I got an 4wheel and off road mag from 80' or 81' comparing the BRAT and Chevy Luv. It was a cool artical, I need to dig that back up. I also have another Off-road mag with a picture of a Gen 1 BRAT running in a tough truck competition.
November 26, 200421 yr By 1983 the Subarus were costing from $6k to $9k Now they cost in the $20's Where will it all end.... We need to archive the old ads here on the board. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
