You're right that the 1.8L is teh displacement, but L4 usually means an inline 4 cylinder, the Subaru engine is usually refered to as a H4, (H meaning horizontal), the 2BBL usually stands for 2 barrel carb.
November 23, 200421 yr First fuel injected Subie was '83 (I've got an '84 with a '83 supplement to the service manual just for fuely stuff) Gary
November 23, 200421 yr i have a 86 spfi fwd sedan , the motor has not been changed either , they made spfi in fwd sedans in 1986
November 23, 200421 yr First fuel injected Subie was '83 Yup, 1983 Is when Subaru introduced the EA81T which came with MPFI. -Brian
November 23, 200421 yr And for the record. MPFI was available in 1985 for the EA82. XT's and 2wd auto sedans had it. But yes, the first issue was in the late '83 turbo EA81's. And Corky's description of your question is dead on. L4 in a 'roo. Not yet, but there is an L3.
November 23, 200421 yr I never heard an inline 4 referred to as an L4, an I4 yes but L4, that’s new to me. but I'm from the south so take that for what you will

November 25, 200916 yr 1.8L =displacement L4 = Laterally opposed - Some euro/aussie speak for what we call an H4, some even call them a "flat 4" 2BBl = 2 Barrel Carb, 2 barrels are strictly Hitachi.
