Has anyone used a blaster coil & MSD6A?

Featured Replies

I searched, and didn't find anything conclusive.

I'm considering putting in a Blaster coil & MSD6A unit. I'm looking mostly for improved fuel economy, but more power wouldn't hurt either. If it turns out it doesn't make much of a difference, I'll just keep the MSD6A around for my RX-7 project car. Am I likely to notice anything from this?

I am using a blaster coil now with the stock spark control. It doesn't really do anything until the higher rpms, IMO, and it has not left me stranded like the accel coil.

i have a blaster II coil now, it was great. made a noticeable improvement and the engine ran smoother

when using a blaster 2 what are the plugs gaped at ,.45-.50 ?? like the accell

didnt gap the plugs, just took em outta my other engine cause they were new and bolted em in on the new one. i made sure they werent smashed or broken, i also checked to see if the were uniform, but i didnt have the gap specs or a gapping tool with me when i put em in.

ok, i already have accell coils ,for the last year and no problem , if i remember right blaster coils cost alittle more than accell , and i gapped my plugs like .45

I use the Blaster II High Vibration coil (because of the horizontal position) and it has served me well. But I as well am extremely interested if anyone has ever used their electronic ignition systems.

Actually, I might be arranging a dyno day in Des Moines within the next month. If I can get multiple pulls in, I'll get data with the stock ignition system vs the Blaster/MSD6A setup. Assuming I take my Subaru... I might have my project RX-7 running by then.

Also, I'm debating taking some synthetic gearbox/differential lube, and changing it out between pulls - see if there's any noticeable difference in power to the wheels.

I've got a Blaster II, but I have to admit, I put it in before the car was drivable so I can't tell you if there is a difference. I should probably put the old one in for a baseline.

got part numbers for the coils and msd6a? for a EA82?

the coil is universal, you can get it for like $35 at advance auto parts.

I used a blaster 2 coil in my 14.2 @93mph GL-10 last year. I did a lot of mods at the same time so I don't know how much of a difference the coil made.
