June 10, 200520 yr This week I have begun the build of my 99 Diablo VT which will be powered by a Subaru powerplant and most probably, tranny too. The car is going to be at the house this week after we pick it up at the seller's house. This won't be built overnight but when finished it will be right around a full thousand Lbs lighter than the production 99VT and will sport the same HP. A stock Diablo VT puts out 523Hp and 446Tq at the crank, right now my STI is putting down 463Hp and about the same in Tq, this is not an unusual goal for the STI to reach and be a daily driver. I ran just under 600 in my XT using the EG33 in a TT configuration close to that of the Nissan 300ZX. The sort of build needed to make a safe, reliable daily driver at 525HP is well proven in the Subaru world. Pics will be up on my site as the build progresses. Here is the car as it is right now: And the same 99VT model with the same paint and interior I have chosen:
June 10, 200520 yr sweet! so this is what you do all day??? need an intern? assistant? shop boy?? i'm there!
June 10, 200520 yr That isn't what he does all day....he is a rocket scientist!! (seriously) Hope to see it a carlisle next year....maybe you could autox it?
June 10, 200520 yr Author Subeman my brother, I dout it will make Carlisle this coming year but the year after that, well, yeah I think so! And I wish I could play with these all day, but as Subeman90 said, the rockets need tend'n
June 10, 200520 yr Sounds to me like he intends to put a 525hp STI motor and drivetrain into it. That would be very impressive. The "real" Lambo would be AWD wouldn't it?
June 10, 200520 yr the rockets need tend'n once again... need an intern? assistant? (shop boy doesn't really work with that...)
June 10, 200520 yr Author Do you have an Aerospace or Engineering background, military experience in space-ops? We do have some slots open now for Flight Opperations Specialist (satellite pilot). As for the car, unfortunatly it will be RWD and not AWD, the hoodline does not permit the engine to be mounted in it's correct location for the front shafts to power the front wheels. The engine moved far back enought to clear would put the tranny out of alignment by a signifigant ammount. The Subaru AWD system is just not adaptable to a mid engine configuration. I looked at a few (and I do mean few) AWD systems that are such as the Carrera4 that can run AWD and rear engine but they put the engine too far back or have reverse rotation of the engine etc. etc. etc.
June 10, 200520 yr That's certainly going to look cool with Super Swampers tucked nicely under it Oh wait...I'm in the wrong forum
June 10, 200520 yr subarubratDo you have an Aerospace or Engineering background, military experience in space-ops? We do have some slots open now for Flight Opperations Specialist (satellite pilot). hmmmm... i have a highschool diploma(well... talk to me tomorrow... then i will...) i fly remote controlled airplanes... does that count? i'm taking a robotics at BCIT after the summer... and m i l i t a r y??? Canada! somehow i don't think i qualify... But hey... its going to be RWD... thats a shame... but its still going to be SWEET... so is this your car? what other sweet rides do you have???(beside the brat!)
June 10, 200520 yr Author Harley Heritage Springer 04 STI, 463HP/500Tq 82 BRAT 02 Boxster (not sweet)
June 11, 200520 yr Instead of Labaroo call it the Subagini and paint it blue with the yellow stars -Brian
June 13, 200520 yr The Subaru AWD system is just not adaptable to a mid engine configuration. you could try to run the shaft down and out the front something like this (or along the side just under the driverside header.) --------------- _________ --------------/|---------| _ ___---------|---------| | |-||||||||||||---------| | |---___ (o)\|_________| |_|================||{
June 13, 200520 yr yeah I was thinking of that why not use a transfer case of sorts to put it underneath the tranny and engine and have it go up front Lambo's have had that done IIRC for the AWD diablo's
June 13, 200520 yr Author Unfortunatly it comes down to one thing the length of the tranny that projects beyond the axle output shafts. The 2WD tranny or the AWD tranny shortened by removing the AWD section barely fits, the AWD tranny would actually project beyond the rearbodywork. If one were to go with this Tcase setup it would be hanging out behind the car.
June 14, 200520 yr Screw AWD, you have the sti for that and the brat for offroad. imho i think a high hp car RWD would be more fun then anything big nice power slides and the weight of the awd would not be a big + when its a lambo since i doubt you will be driving it in much more then 1in of snow... so i think your orignal set up rwd 5000 hp lambo will be sweet.. just to clarify this is a kit car not a real lambo right......
June 16, 200520 yr Author OK, here are some pics, and I have reached a verdict on the engine, STI motor.
June 16, 200520 yr Thats BAD A$$ !!!!! Just dont negelect the brat. So what have you done to the STI to bring it up to 500hp?
June 20, 200520 yr Do you have an Aerospace or Engineering background, military experience in space-ops? We do have some slots open now for Flight Opperations Specialist (satellite pilot). My sister is looking at options and is thinking of moving on from where she is now. She interned at JPL, and graduated with an Aerospace degree from Embry Riddel (sp?) and is working dark projects for the gov out of a Boeing satellite division (used to be Hughes space systems). Drop me a PM if you want. I'd like to pass the info on to her. --Eric
June 20, 200520 yr Author That sounds promising for a number of reasons... I'll be sending a PM in a min.
June 24, 200520 yr Author New pic, rear bumper is on, vents are cut, and the rear deck is glassed in and ready to be welded to the lift frame.
July 21, 200520 yr Is that the kit that Kimmi was buggin for? I can't wait til you complete this...the BRAT is awesome...the STI is sweet and I know this will rack up there also. <giggling> Kimmi is so ganna shi* when I show her these PICs <still giggling>
