Inclinometer in a soobie?

Featured Replies

I was browsing some subaru loyale pictures the other day and I came across one sweet loyale that had an inclinometer cluster in it from a toyota 4runner. Seems like a wicked good idea to me, anyone have one or thought of it or have any idea where I could pick one up? TIA

I got one for my car, i'm not giving it up, I havn't wired it in yet so i don't have any pictures, but i got it from Mcbrat, i don't know if he has any more, but if he does, he'd be the one to ask.

Thanks, I'll hit up Mcbrat. What is the wiring for? backlighting?

The wiring as you have said, is for the back light, i do most of my mudding at night, so an inclinometer that dosn't light up is about as useful as a civic in the mountains

HAHAHAHA, Thats great. Ya, a friend of mine had an inclinometer with an altimeter on it in his 4runner and he said it was extremly useful.

got mine at desert rat for something like $20.00 but l found the same one at a yuppie truck parts store for $50.00 the same exact one so shop around

I'm working on a digital readout device of selectable data to replace the clock in my GL. One feature to think about on my list is sensors to detect inclination. First on the list is to get the GPS receiver working so I can see all of that data, then external temp, then maybe inclination.

Check out vehicles like old Isuzu Troopers or first gen 4Runners. I got my inclinometer cluster from one of those types of vehicles.

fj cruiser has one with inclinometer, compass, and thermometer. the gauges light up the same orange as my digi dash so i'm thinking of trying one

but they are around $500 brand new....

check on amazon.com they have a few for jeeps and they are around 25 thinking about getting one for myself..

Hey , I have that same unit in my suzuki. I got it out of a wrecked 4runner. It was made to be mounted straight up and down. It tilts back in the sammy dash so to make it accurate I had to jump a tooth in one of the gears. maybe this will help you graft one in your soob.

Gonna bump this thread with another addition. This is out of a '80s Tercel 4WD wagon. It needs to be reshaped so it meshes up with the curve of the dash to look as factory as possible.

I have some information for anyone looking to source something like this from a Toyota in a junkyard. Those extra clusters came with the SR5 trim package 4runner's and Tercel's. If it still has the original paint, the SR5's have big broken stripes on the sides and the hood, so they're easy to spot.

The 4runner cluster has an altimeter where the Tercel's 4wd indicator is. There's also a switch on the face of the 4runner clusters to kill the illumination, which I find handy when driving on unlit roads at night. (but not while wheeling, as was mentioned above)

That Tercel cluster looks brand-new and factory! Good job!

Holy ancient thread revival, Batman.

How many of you guys have smartphones? Just get a dash mount for it and use an inclinometer app. :D

You can't tell me you think using a smart-phone mounted to your dash is as cool as that picture is a couple posts above?
