aargh delete it quick! Hehe, I got flamed harshly a year ago when I posted this question!!! In case you didn't know, the kits are made in small quantities, by a local of the board, not some larger manufacturer one wouldn't feel bad about ripping off. (Which is what I had thought, being a newb at the time)

I remember when you posted the question last year Basher.

We'll let todds down lightly. I think the only people who has blueprints of a solid and tested true lift kit are BYB and PK Davis. John (mudrat) knows how to lift sube's, and he could probably build a lift for you.

 

As far as blueprints, you'll probably need to make some yourself. Its not that difficult to lift a sube, its manufacturing the blocks.

ya really it's not tough you don't have to deal with much geometry or anything. Mine's gonna be made out of the frame of an APEX stair climbing exercise machine! I know it sounds bad but its 3"x1.5" 3/16 wall rectangle, I'm pretty sure. It'll be doubled up for 6", with lots of bracing. Should look kinda like hassey's 6" brat lift. If you're confused about building a lift just look at each mounting point for the subframes, and design a block that will drop each down how ever many inches you want.

If you have never dealt with a lift before it would probably be simpler and safer to buy one. Once you figure out exactly how they work fabbing your own can work... but after you get all the parts plated and get all the bolts and stuff and spend all the time making stuff... its probably easier just to buy the kit from PK Davis

Another tough obsticale to your own custom lift is maintaining proper camber front and rear. Extending the steering shaft doenst look very easy either.

 

I agree with the statments above. Unless you really know what your doing with custom fabrication you are going to be spending a lot of time and money with just trial and error before even getting a lift you wiould be happy and safe with.

Todd is who taught me how to wheel subarus waaaay back. He's pretty familiar with the ins and outs of these things. I believe there are more than 30 in his yard in various shapes and conditions.

not blueprints by any means, but on Subarubrat.com, there is an article on what is required to build your own 6" lift, if you are good at deciphering verbal instructions...

Heres a pic of a scorpion 50mm lift, basically you would make everything 2/3x taller. With this method you have to find or make bolts that are longer too. The other way like hassey's or subarubrat's brat is to make them out of rectangular tube, with some reinforcement, and and seperate bolts for the x-member and body.

subarubrat's is a 6" lift, huh?? That's what I'm wanting...How did you come across that rectangle tube lift? I'd like one of those...any info, or was that fabbed from those directions?

Suabrubrat got the lift info from me and my site when i had my web site up

 

use 2x6 tubing and cut into 2x2x6 you will need 14 total for your brat that 10 in the front (5 on each side) and 4 in the rear (2 on each side)

 

drill holes in both ends of all 14 blocks use the orignial bolts and bolt all 10 blocks in place in the front flat sides faceing towards the front the 5th block on the inside will have the flat side facing the tire

 

use 2x2 tubing and measure and cut to fit in between the blocks and weld them in place conecting all 5 blocks together

 

do the same in the rear except you will also run a piece across conecting both sides

 

You will have to buy 14 nuts and bolt for the bottom of the lift

 

you will use 2x2 tubing and cut a piece and conect the front of the lift to the rear

 

so when all is done you have built a sub frame that is solid and will not rock back and forth

 

that just the basics theres a lot more involed in building the strut towers the rear shock mounts so you can run bigger shocks and even dual shocks if you wanted too

and re building the rear suspention out of 2x2 tubing

 

DO NOT USE 7" bolt like some people on the board thinks i did

 

I personaly would not trust the 4" or 5" bolts that come with the byb/pk lifts

i like the idea of making a sub frame. i've seen some scary hacthet jobs. is there enough room to hook front to rear with 4 inch lift? john, i'll call you.thanks again guys todd.

Sorry about that John its been a long time sence I talk to you and Scott and forgot who I gave Info to. and who did what in the making of his lift. As i have given the info to so many people
