question <could not think of a good subject line>

Featured Replies

someone needs the water line under the turbo on a ea82 replaced and beside parts wants to know how much they would have to pay me

usually i just tell people what ever they think its worth

most of the time i get more than i expect anyways

but this person wants a price and i really don't know how much to charge

never having replaced one yet i have no clue how long it will take

any idea's?

btw its a 86 rx

with what looks to be dual 02 sensors

one before the turbo and one after

oh yeah where a good place to get a decent price on the mounting gasket kit? i have seen them as high as 30$ or more so far :brolleye:

How badly do YOU want o do this? If you don't, charge the PITA price.

If you have never done this, your in for a PITA. Call Napa and get a price on silicone hose. If its going to be done do all the turbo water lines. You may have to (most likeyl) lift the intake to replace them, so that means you will also need the gaskets for that. Do hope you have a manual?

Rob

to replace the water line on the bottom of the turbo??

that was not too bad at all, only took me about 40 mins..

Have not done the one on the bottoum, but the one on the top took me 45min. and a week for all the cuts on my hands to heal up:mad:

hmm i just replaced the intake gaskets about a month ago had a blown drivers side intake gasket

who sells silly cone :) hose by the foot?

i actually don't wanna do it and wish they would realize they need to just sell me the rx :D but at one time they wanted 2k for it....:rolleyes:

but but the card board box is where my cable modem and puters reside ...

:D

That hose doesn't come by the foot, it's a molded hose, get a OEM unit.

you can also go and make it pretty and get the 10mm blue ricer silicone hose from Schucks or Knects for like 20 bucks I think

DO NOT use the blue sil. hose from schmucks! I don't know where they get it frrom but it is of VERY low quality. I blew the top turbo line(water) in 2 days when I used that stuff:boohoo:

It's good for vacuum hose, and covering other hoses, and that's about it.

get the molded hose with the foil **** on it, wasnt that hard to change either, clamps were a biaach, but if you take the spare tire holder / strut bar / all heat sheilds out and reach WAY under there, tis not bad at all

do the molded foil coolant hose and the oil hose.. both dealer parts. i went in from under the car instead of over. I didn't take the right front axle out and wish I did :P .. I also didn't unbolt the turbo from the crossover pipe and ... yep, wish I did. If you go that route, you might recommend changing the crossover pipe to turbo gasket as well; they get pretty used up after a while. maybe a new downpipe gasket as well as you'll have to take it off to get the turbo loose. be sure you use some PB blaster or yield before breaking any of those exhaust bolts loose, and use some anti-sieze goop on them when reinstalling.

Also, do that RX owner a favor and talk them into letting you open up the bottom of the airbox :D

If I was going to do all of that for someone, I'd ask for $75.. that seems a good price for the better part of a day spent under a car or stuck in the engine bay.

Oh, and if you go to Napa, get some of the blue nitrile gloves; they are the best thing since (insert euphemism here) .. $12 for a 100-count box and they hold up much better than latex gloves, and little to no hand washing afterward!

i still dont see what the problem is , it was quite simple from the top of the car...:D

sorry over looked the part where you siad to get the hose at nappy :drunk: <nightoff>

nitril gloves? i usually don't use them when i work on cars

little castrol super clean on teh hands works well lol

just watch the cuts

i will check on oem prices today and give them a estimate

oh and 88 rxsedan

this 86 rx is a 4door as well

75 sounds good to me put it towards my engine hoist fund

hope they did nto damage the engine as she has driven it to work like this a few times

:temper: but it didn't get very hot just steaming and such she said
