As you can see im trying to build the Ultimate EA82 and go where no one has gone before and some deem not possible! WOOHOO
February 28, 200719 yr My goal only three years newer and a sedan instead of a wagon. Friggin' SWEET man! How was the e-manage to install/tune?
February 28, 200719 yr Author My goal only three years newer and a sedan instead of a wagon. Friggin' SWEET man! How was the e-manage to install/tune? The E-Manage Ultimate is a dream come true for the EA82, its working excellent and installation isnt bad at all! Everything works perfectly! I wish I installed it a long time ago, would of saved going threw motors to find out that the stock EA82 Computer and Fuel System are ************ and cant take even turning up the boost slightly! Now at WOT i enjoy 11.0-11.5 AFR's all day long to 6500rpm gotta love that.
February 28, 200719 yr Nice setup, man! good to see somebody willing to spend the money on all that tech for the soobie. sounds like keeping the engine well bathed in fuel might help avoid any potential turbo engine longevity issues. Thats normally the case you are running stock CR for the ea82T, though, right? for some reason I had falsely fallen under the impression that you were building a high comp turbo.. And extra congratulations paying for (and building, for that matter) ALL OF THAT while working and going to school!!!! *I* couldn't pull all that off by a long shot.
February 28, 200719 yr adds items to x-mas list Except I'm going to use MegaSquirt'N'Spark. There are a bunch of guys up here who run it. My best friend has it on his SC Miata and another two have it on built/turbo golfs. I'm supprised you could afford the E-manage on a student budget. Oh, wait the two jobs thing, hahaha!!
March 1, 200719 yr Author Has this car been dyno'ed? Car has been dyno'd a few times but not with the current state of good tune. The last dyno showed a 14.3sec 1/4mile time (mustang dyno) 166whp and nearly 200wtq at 9psi of boost with the AFR bouncing around 13.8 to 14.5:1 at WOT, since then I have fixed the problem with the Walbro 255 Fuel Pump and have yet to make another pull with 15psi. Should be interesting. The Clutch and AWD Tranny Swap is happening this weekend. I'll keep you posted.
March 1, 200719 yr Id love to go for a ride in that thing only we wasn't on the other sides of the damn continent.
March 1, 200719 yr So the question remains: why has no-one O-ringed one of these yet? someone did, I remember a awesome sedan with O-ringed turbo block, but the main thing keeping people from doing it is money I guess, as is with a lot of things @ steveman09: awesome job, extremely jealous of your work and dedication, I may have to copy your work some time
March 1, 200719 yr detonation and over heating contribute the most to blown headgaskets.. and age as well.. friggin awesome job! We need more PICS please! :burnout: Oh and why did you go back to stock ea82t camshafts?
March 1, 200719 yr detonation and over heating contribute the most to blown headgaskets.. and age as well.. friggin awesome job! We need more PICS please! :burnout: Oh and why did you go back to stock ea82t camshafts? probably for driveability, for most turbo cars, stock cams are the best, you can get "Hotter" cams for it, but you'll need every little bit of torque you can get out of the cams to overcome the turbo lag torque cams on the other hand don't breathe enough top-end, so midway is best, and those are the stockers
March 1, 200719 yr wow. I gotta admit, I'm impressed. and those are some impressive dyno numbers, especially if you were running a crappy tune!! now, get some beefy rods made for it....and see what it'll really do
March 1, 200719 yr someone did, I remember a awesome sedan with O-ringed turbo block, Nice to know that someone did do it. but the main thing keeping people from doing it is money I guess, as is with a lot of things Doesn't look like 'low budget' really describes this build. Although, I suppose it's obviously not a 'blank cheque' project either.
March 2, 200719 yr now, get some beefy rods made for it....and see what it'll really do I beleive that the stock rods are plenty strong for a mild turbo engine. Once someone builds a RELIABLE 200WHP engine, then mayb ecryo treat the rods, but most turbo engines have rods that will handle more that 1.5 times the factory output at least.
March 3, 200719 yr The turbo rods are the same part numbers as the NA rods. The rod bearings are different tho...
March 3, 200719 yr yea, but I know of a couple people who blew a hole in the top of the block.....I thought because of broken rods.... I'd hate to see that happen to a 12k mile motor
March 4, 200719 yr Well...there have been exploded rods on EJ257's as well, but due to OTHER problem than the RODS.....
March 6, 200719 yr Author The clutch and injectors are here! : Clutch is a Stage 3 from Spec and had to be built. Injectors were custom made from Venom, thew a connection I have. If ANYONE wants any of the parts I used for the build let me know and I can get you whatever you need! There is hope for the ea82 you just have to search and dig deep and know the right people
March 6, 200719 yr Let me know how that clutch work out for you. I was thinking of something similar, but was wondering if going with multiple pucks was overkill on a daily driver vs. potential track car.
March 6, 200719 yr ooooooo.....clutch looks VERY sexy! I'll probably be looking for something like that this summer (If I can't get my hands on an EJ D/R tranny case.
