i hate carburetors

Featured Replies

i dont know what the hell to do....the idle adjuster doesnt work....the middle of the carb has a leak causing it to not idle, !!!!!!!!!!! and the people at webercarbureters.com are really unreliable!

I take it that your working on a weber?

If the idle speed screw is not providing a response, the carb is running too rich. Is the leak external or internal? It sounds like it's internal(leaking into the engine).

I have found that most of the companies that sell Webers, just sell them and don't have any real knowledge of how to set them up or adjust them. Get a rebuild kit, or wing it and just take it apart to fix the leak. Probably the main center gasket.

Is the carb new? Maybe it wasn't put together correctly. If so, try to return it for a new one.

That´s Why... Trully I Hate Craptachi Carbs too... :-\ ...Well a Weber is Light Years Away in Simplicity and Goodness from the Hitachi... but be Careful with your State´s Law ´bout Smog...

Spfi is a Good Choice too... I Choose Weber ´cos I wanted to keep things Simple...

Maybe You can obtain a Good Used Weber from a Junk Yard...

Good Luck! :)

If you have the money for a weber from them, go get an SPFI setup. You won't regret it ;)

is the SPFI swap really all that difficult? i'm pretty handy w/tools and been considering a weber for my '84 wagon.

im aware of what weber to get and the FI but heres something you dont know.........NOBODY in my family is a mechanic, im teaching myself everything(except my cousin jibs) i would like todo FI or get rid of the Damned Ea81 and get an EJ22 but i just am not smart enough yet.:-\

Don't sell yourself too short, 90% of being able to do it is having the guts to jump in.

However, half of the remaining 10% IS having experience, and the other half is having people around to help you... if you are fifteen, and have no family into cars at all, then the fact that you've made it this far is impressive enough.

Don't forget that wou can obtain all of your parts, and then spend 20 minutes a day slowly and carefully putting your wiring harness in the right shape, if you want. GD made that write up with the idea of making the entire project low-impact...

I've had 7 EA82's with Hitachi's and I can tell you my first experience with SPFI made a believer out of me!

EVERYTHING is better, starts, accelleration, mileage, and a nice rock solid smooth idle.

If you get the stuff to do whichever swap or just any work on your wagon, give me a call and I'll come help you out. I may not have done everything, but I have been able to do quite a bit without any experience. First time doing timing belts, clutch, wheel bearings, etc was done on my wagon and she's still purring like a kitten and drives awesome.
