Highest rev?

Featured Replies

Ok Whats the Highest youve ever revved your subarus engine, please state the engine name and then revs, and (if) what happoned.

I revved mine (free Revved) to 7500 on accident... nothing happened but i didnt like the feeling of doing that to my poor car.

ea71 usually rev it to about 6500 no problems as of yet

SPFI EA82 8,000 rpm's. You could hear the valves starting to float. Did it a few times. Still runs fine.

revved my EG33 to 7k no problem. I've also had a chevy small block to 9K.

pegged the tac when the throttle cable got stuck on the linkage while I was standing outside of it revving. blew a coolant line to the carb. the line needed replaced anyway.

I've had all incarnations of EA81's and EA82's to valve float. Never damaged one from it. I had a rod through the block of an EA81 once but it wasn't RPM related. None of them can make it to rod burst speeds in stock form. A member here that was into engineering once postulated that the rod burst speed is somewhere north of 11,000

well, i was driving while talking on my cell phone and took my car to 7200 rpm in second, then asked the passenger to get third gear while i pushed in the clutch, he shifted it into first and i dumped the clutch, and i threw a rod, like a week later, not sure if it was related or not. this was in an 89 xt6 er27 motor

SPFI EA82 about 3500rpm in park.. And 4000-4500 in 2nd if i'm on the highway and on a dead stop.

When I first got my Brumby with the EA81 dual carb motor I tested it on a dirt road in 4WD low. Before I knew it it was about 8,200RPM and still going up freely. Now the engine has trouble going above 6500rpm while driving. That will change though when I build it up. It's just sitting in the shed now gathering dust.

EJ22 cuts out at somthign like 7,200rpm? So thats the maximum from that.

6500RPM on the EA81T... it just stops making power after about 5500rpm, so there's no reason to pull past that.

3000 rpm to drive it from the school parking lot across the street to the driveway. Despite the warped/cracked head, it felt worse than a geo metro for power hahahha

I have the same problem with my ea81T. Right when you hit 6K the thing runs out of fuel.

I would do 8300 on my EF12 FI on a regular basis. That was the only way you could keep up with traffic anyway.

EA82T saw at least 9k 4 times for quite a long period.

It was totally sharted afterwards.

My EA82 SPFI made power up to about 6500. They were pretty high reving motors.

Oh really! wow i dident think it would make pwoer that far up! Nothing like a EA82:headbang:

So I assume the EA82t has no rev cut?

Nope - just valve float, fuel pressure, and injector sizing. It's got a fuel cut for overboost, but that can be overcome if a variety of ways.

ea71 1982 wagon i red lined another 500rpm it it would go off the clock :burnout:

er27 red lined all most went of the clock due 2 the auto was shot and wouldnt chance up

eg33 about 7000

:burnout:

7k driving 8k free revving it kinda makes me feel bad for doing that to my to my poor motor its got 267*** on it as of now no problems as of yet. (knocks on wood) Ea82 Spfi

So I assume the EA82t has no rev cut?

No, but If you've got a MT with Digidash, the digidash will beep an alarm at you when you hit 6000 rpms as a warning.

Humm, That's cool! I don't want to rev it to high right now as of i got old T-belts and a leaky MM-seal. I start to get a lifter tick if i diside to put it about 4500rmp in 2nd. So i let off the gas and let it shift. I don't want to hurt my Roo.

PS: It's an auto trans.

8000rpm on regular basis. Freereving.

93 EA82. 5spd.

7700rpm in 3rd gear.

Man, I know Subaru engines are made for high rev's but why would you want to go that high?? I mean 8000rpm just free reving! And 7700 in 3rd! damm that's pushing it a little hard don't you think..... All i can say is i guess there's no carbon buildup in your engine Hahahahahahaha:lol:

Hit over 7k in traffic, in 4low in wonderful Auburn trying to get from I5 north to the left hand lane of 18 west to make a left turn. Scared some people, and the car burned oil worse after that for a couple miles.

My old Hatch, in RWD.

I did blow a 390 when the motor mount broke, pinning the throttle wide open until it dropped a valve at about 6500rpm. Cracked the block, bent the rod, shattered the piston, and hydrolocked a cylinder on the other side bending that rod. Didn't trust the crank, so couldn't even save that.

Somewhere I have pictures where you can see light through the crack in the block.
