But it seems like the likelihood is significantly higher than I previously anticipated. I was under the impression that premature failure of any kind was almost completely nil past 2000 ('99 in Foresters). But whatever. The only issue I have is oil consumption (not external leak) @ 1 quart/800-900 miles but I can deal with that. OEM PCV valves replaced and checked at regular intervals. Wxman Posted September 18, 2008 Share Posted September 18, 2008 2000 Outback 123000 miles. Head gaskets just started weeping. I guess it's my time. Showed it to the dealer and they suggested trying the coolant conditioner. The "conditioner" was put in after the recall, but I'm not sure if they added it in subsequent coolant changes (my paperwork would suggest not). They told me the leak is slight enough at this point that it would NOT qualify for warranty work yet if it were still under warranty.
