December 30, 200322 yr Talked to a person today who said he(as a dealer) had 5 or six of these. I know the advertisement in 1977-8 had stated that Subaru was giving away 50 of these, one in each state. I didn't ask this guy why he had more but when I mentioned the ad. he said there were more, you just had to buy more of them if you wanted them. Any idea what the total number produced was? BTW Mick, uhhh, you aren't going to believe what I have lined up.Hint:I think only my son can fit in it,has devilish decal on it,and looks like my '78 Brat.... It'll be much easier to let the shell go now.
December 30, 200322 yr That makes sense actually - they "gave away" 50, but of course since they were producing them anyway - they would have taken orders for more since the more you make, the cheaper they become.... thus Subaru made more profit if they produced more of them (or less loss depending on how you look at it). Certainly he must be correct that you could pay for em. The promotion was for 50 give aways - they just neglected to mention that you could also buy em..... GD
January 1, 200422 yr i have a yellow one, just need a crankshaft for the motor. drove it everyday as a young kid. just sits in the garage now. ill fix it up sometime and get it going again. we got it back in the 70s from my dads dealership. Matt
January 1, 200422 yr Sorry Paul, no help on the Brat conundrum. I will ask my bro-in law the Roo stealer salesman, see what he can dig up. Please put me inline for the shell though, I have a racing cart from the 60's that would make a real nice chassis under it. Some monster tires and she'd be a show piece in the parade, leading my Panzers. arf arf
January 1, 200422 yr Yeah, I remeber the promotion, a chicken in every pot and a Subaru Brat Go-Kart in every garage.
January 1, 200422 yr Author Mick is supposed to be getting my shell, but you're next Skipper. Nothing is definite with this kart.
January 2, 200422 yr if you click the http://www.ultimatesubaru.org button near the top of the page, and go to Brat Stuff, I think under fun stuff there is a page with some pics of a red one that was on eBay in CA a couple years ago....
