Brat Bed Carpet?

Featured Replies

Hello, I need new carpeting for my Brats bed.

I remember reading on the board that there is some different type carpeting used in brats, I don't remember it very well, something with the backing? I think it was you needed the right type or water didn't evaporate properly and helped cause rust.

What kind is it and where do you think I can get some?

-AK.

JCWhitney sells exact replacements for the interior BRAT carpeting. As for the bed, most people just spray Duraliner on it--it holds up much better and doesn't cause, or show, rust.

The stock carpet is the breathable type. That allows it to dry out quickly so it doesn't rust. I think ShawnW was talking about this, or maybe Mr McBrat.

How much would it cost to duraline it?

Yeah - it's rather expensive to do the spray on bed liner as Qman points out - apparently because of the shape of the bed, it's difficult to use their normal "drop down" masking equipment - so it's very tedious to do the back of the cab, and all those curved parts...

That probably depends on how much prep work you are willing to do. If you drop it off and they have to do all the prep work it'll cost you alot more than if all they have to do is wipe the prepped areas down and masking. Doing the prep work can save you lots of money and will also probably be done to a higher standard as well.

I'll just get some breathable carpet, If I say "breathable" at a store, will they know what I am talking about?, or does it have a more specific term?

I put a Herculiner in my Brat myself for about $80. Don't know if it's as good as a comercial spray in liner, but I had enough in the gallon can to do three coats. I haven't seen a commercial job that's as thick as mine.

I've seen the bed of northguy's brat and I think it looks pretty good, especially considering how much it cost to do. I also Herculinered the floor pan of my car, and it's quite easy to do, even for somebody like me who is a complete klutz with paint.

for 80 bucks, maybe but I won't have much left with the cost of repainting it and decals.
