January 4, 200917 yr Is there anyway to fool my computer so my check engine light doesnt glow? My Purge control valve is bad, i dont have the 150 bucks to waste on it, so i have black tape over my check engine lol.

January 4, 200917 yr Go to Radio Shack and get this: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062322 Take two of them and and tie them together so they are in parallel. As in tie one lead of the 1st one to one lead of 2nd one. Tie the other lead of the 1st one to other lead of the 2nd one. Cut off the connector on the solenoid and solder each tied end to a wire. Tape it all up and make sure it won't short out, zip tie it to something out of the way.
January 4, 200917 yr If it is the valve I am thinking of, you can put a resistor in there and fool it. I drove for the longest time with my light on because I refused to pay $120 for a solenoid which is just an electromagnet like your doorbell. I finally found a place online that had it for $48 and I broke down and replaced it.

There's nothing wrong with the parallel resistors. 10W is big overkill but it will work fine of course. Digi-Key is great, if you decide to order from them pick "first class mail" and it'll be like $3 for shipping.
January 4, 200917 yr is this the purge control valve for ej22? I have several extras if that is what you need. I can send one out for whatever cost of shipping is. You did not mention what vehicle, engine year etc. pm me if you want

January 4, 200917 yr 33 Ohm, 5 watt resistor will do it. If you want the thing to function then any 12 volt solenoid valve will work. Or you can just plumb the two lines together. All it does is purge the vapor from the charcoal canistor - you can yank the canistor and vent your gas tank to the atmosphere. Likely your 20 year old activated charcoal canistor is junk anyway and non-functional as they are intended to be replaced about every few years. Disabling the system with a resistor is both effective and economical considering the cost to make the system function. Bypassing it with a resistor in no way affects how the engine runs.
