Engine oil Suggestions and Fuel Filter

Bare with me guys I tried searching but it said the word engine

and oil were too common lol. Anyways need engine oil

suggestions. I have been using 10W-30 in my EA-82. It

has no oil leaks and around 84k on the odo.

Should I stick with that oil or...? any suggestions please,

I will also be adding MMO to it. The car will never see any

temperature below 60F. The original owner also replace

the fuel filter about 20k miles ago, should I get me a new one?

That's not a bad choice, but at that mileage, I would personally go with 10w40. You are in a warm climate too. But that's just my opinion.

I always replace the fuel filter every couple of years regardless of mileage. They're not expensive or difficult, and by cutting open the old one you can see if there's any rust or other nasty crud building up in your fuel system.

oil is a topic that usually just turns into opinionated arguments.

 

follow the owners manual, personally i'd stick with the 10w30.

 

if the fuel filter looks new, leave it. if yo'ure not sure it was actually replaced (sometimes people get confused or say the wrong thing), or you want to then replace it.

Well to start off the 15w-50 was out of mu budget at least for now :-\:rolleyes: but gotta love autozone

here is what I bought: 5 quarts 10W-40, STP oil filter, STP air filter,

metal canister fuel filter (plastic under the hood makes me nervous), oil filter wrench,

1 bottle MMO, bottle of Rain-X, 1 set of detailing towels all for around $36 :grin:

I've never heard of someone actually offering this! Wow! They should do that around here! sounds like an ok price but honestly. just do it yourself. It's very easy. Just wash thoroughly, let it dry very well, and then apply whatever kind of oil you want!

Finished the install of my goodies. Used close to 4qt of oil and a bottle of MMO. Replaced fuel filter which was a little dirty but no rust.

Air filter was horrifyingly dirty, good thing I picked one up. While I was in I noticed the corner of my radiator has a leak :mad::mad::mad:

close to the faucet. Any radiator from another vehicle that I can drop in? Mine is badly rotted and a 6" long section of fins is totally gone

lol. I can see my oil filter through my radiator :banana: Remember guys my location prevents me from just buying a new Subaru one :-\

suggestions please.

a gen 2 rad will fit after you remove the top steel rail, most seem to be somewhat loose and just take a bit of heat from a propane torch to soften the solder so that it can pop off easily

 

after the rad is in position, secure it with some soft wire on the top side, one wire around hose fitting, and one wire around filler cap

 

the filler cap can take a bit of skill to remove and reinstall, but it is possible, even with a lever vent type

 

connect the overflow tube to the overflow outlet, and fill to the bottom of "level plate" inside rad. end tank

 

 

the hoses alone seem to do a good job of keeping the rad in position

 

a flex hose may be needed for the bottom to go from rad to water pump pipe

 

 

works even better when you have ea81 engine with ea82 intake and carb all mated together

I Use just 20W-50 in Both my Subies and my `69 Mercury Comet, Here there are no Snow...

I Believe the Climate of your Area should be Close alike our Climate Here.

the right combination of baling wire and duck tape can fix alot, also apply lots of despair and lack of money and a pinch of boredom, etc and stuff will get fixed, my secret recipe :D

Never use Stop Leak Additives on Coolin` System... my experience tell they do more Damage than before of pouring them.

Umm lol the leak vanished... why would that happen? Drove about 100 milea and didnt lose a single drop of coolant :-\

Who needs to oil the bottom of their car when they have an EA motor?? Doesnt that thorougly lubricate the entire undercarriage by itself? (j/k) (Come on, nobody else jumped on this one? lol)

 

JUST SAY NO to stop-leaks!! In any way, shape or form. "Oh, but it's a conditioner too and will help prevent cooling system problems!!" OH, but it's particulate matter you are voluntarily introducing into your cooling/oil/trans/etc system!! Come on!

Seriously, though, stop-leaks generally tend to do more harm than good, clogging up radiators, oil filters, trans filters, etc... depending on what system you put them in. 'Specially the ones with "PTFE" lubricant in them, PTFE consists of PARTICULATE MATTER!!

 

I use DELO 15-40w heavy duty diesel truck oil in my RX... but I'm a diesel mechanic and that's what's free to me!!

EDIT: Vanishing coolant leak potentially heater core... did it go away when you turned the heater off? Either that or a stuck thermostat , bad radiator cap , or a separating lower radiator core seam... anything else will show up with a pressure test (WHICH I strongly suggest you perform...)
