  1. Thanks everyone - have a local interest who has a body shop and frame rack, he’s coming to check it out in the next few days. If he isn’t interested or doesn’t think it can be put right I’ll start working with folks on parts…

  2. yup, that right there is your problem. You should be able to get closer to 300 miles to a tank full... (roughly 10.5-11 gals of the 14 gal tank) I am going to guess you are under 25 yrs old, right? driving like that is not doing your car any favors - wearing things out faster. Sure, it can be fun - in the right setting - but daily driving on city streets, not so much.

  3. Itll be like getting a new refrigerator by buying each part one at a time and assembling it at home. It's much easier to get a complete engine. There's an incredibly amount of plumbing to make a turbo work to try and assemble it from scratch. Find a BLOWN complete turbo engine or vehicle so you can just swap blocks with it. You'll need all the up front exhaust, down pipe, intake, turbo crossmember or cut/modify yours, and stand alone ECU.

  4. That engine in the impreza is a super mean package from what I’ve been told. I think there were two that were done over here at one point. Dunno what happened to them though. I hope the VSS wiring is a simple fix for you. Cheers Bennie

  5. ^ what @heartless said. Can’t swap panels between platforms. I’m not even sure if impreza bonnet can be swapped with the equivalent year forester. Gut tells me no. Front ends are not interchangeable. Some mechanical parts *might* swap over but this would depend on what part you’re wanting to swap. Why do you wan to swap the impreza bonnet onto the legacy anyway? Cheers Bennie

  6. no, the Impreza is a completely different platform to the Legacy - the body panels are not interchangeable

  7. What do you mean "the dealer"? If a Subaru dealer - who did you talk to? They various staff at dealers have a hard time keeping track of 10+ year old Subaru's and options availabilities/changes. So I'd be more inclined to think the person you talked to was guessing if the picture shows buttons. Did you type your VIN into google and check cars101.com to see what they list as equipment? It's not perfect or offical Subaru info, but he's a Subaru employee and has a lot of good information posted here about trim/options, etc: https://cars101.com/ Do you know if this could have been a dealer or owner add on? Years ago I fished lake Talmadge many times a few miles north of Hampton.

  8. There is a 2 pin blue connector on the back of the Dash. I believe that is the speedo connection. I'd check to see if you have it on the gauge cluster and then use the wiring manual to find the best place to connect you VSS to it.

  9. https://arpinstructions.com/instructions/260-4701.pdf When using Subaru head bolts we use a modified ARP sequence. The guys have found through testing and empirical evidence that a sequence of 30, 60, 85 followed by an additional torque to 90 on the center bolts works just as well as anything Subaru has published. You MUST ensure that NO creaking takes place. We use Amsoil Assembly Lube on the threads. GD

  10. bumping up your tire pressures just a little bit will do more for fuel economy than a CAI will, lol example: if you normally run 35psi, bump it up to 40.. tires in general can have a pretty profound affect on fuel economy.. the formula used (hard/soft), tread design, type will impact fuel in one way or another. driving style will also be a factor.. if you tend to be an aggressive driver.. jumping off the line at lights, not slowing before stop signs (ie waiting as long as possible to brake) will eat up a fair bit of fuel economy. average speed, too. if you are one to routinely run 10-15mph over the speed limit on the freeway.. try dropping down to only 5 over... the faster you go, the more fuel you are using. basically, there are lots of little things you can do that dont cost anything at all to improve your fuel economy. on that car, i would expect around 27mpg overall.. you might get it up to 29 if you are lucky.. that was the best i had ever gotten out of my 90 Legacy wagon... same basic car with a few cosmetic changes.

  12. If you're going to try that, please let the engine be warmed up before going to high RPM. Just my 2 bucks

  13. That’s an EJ thing. No screws on the EA82 oil pump as the two rotor pieces live in the block. Cheers Bennie

  14. Cut the oil filter and look for metal. The consistency of the sound suggests a lifter. Rod knocks tend to sound inconsistent with engine RPM. GD

  15. Yes. The only thing you missed is the cabin filter. We spray the cabin filters with this: https://www.amazon.com/WEB-Filter-Charger-14-oz/dp/B000RGS4PU It has a light citrus scent also - customers love it. GD
