  1. Currently I have a box-stock EA81 in my '84 Brat with a slightly larger free flow exhaust and and weber. Added to that I have a 5 speed d/r conversion gearbox. With that, I have no problem running 65 to 80 mph and up on the highway; car goes uphill (South Center I-5 hill) with two 200+ pound people in the car and about 500 pounds loaded in the back at 65 mph without downshifting from 5th gear. The weber, gearbox and exhaust are all easy and relatively inexpensive. Car runs just fine with that. Drop me a PM and I'll send you an address and 'phone number. You can drop by on the weekend and drive it since I'm right next store in Bothell.
  2. XT6 alternator is capable of 90Amp output; stock EA82 will only deliver 60Amp output. However, better than what you have now and would tide you over until you repair yours.
  3. For the computer challenged among us: http://www.oregonrally.com/files/RallyCrossScoring_060507.pdf Hot times for qman and zap. I didn't do so hot in my class, but managed a respectable showing overall in the morning run. I wonder what they did to the afternoon session to make the course almost 15 seconds faster for some cars that ran morning and afternoon.
  4. Who's adapter did you get? Redline, EMPI, or homemade? Sadly it's normal for the weber's front left to just touch the ignition wire cap on the distributor. They seem to all do that with the Hitachi distributor; rumor has it that doesn't happen with the ND version.
  5. The manifold is "cocksided"--the adapter fits straight on the manifold.
  6. Not a lot of rain, but a great time. Four runs in the morning session and watching qman and zap in the smoking Impreza, .....priceless.
  7. Both Turbone and northguy's suggestions are good and likely causes for what you have. But if that doesn't fix it, when's the last time you changed the fuel filter? You have two (sort of)...one is under the car next to the fuel pump (everyone forgets about that one) and you have a fuel separator (looks like a fuel filter) in the engine compartment (driver's side near the firewall). Try that next. Good luck.

  9. How annoying (over and above the fact that they stole it); instead of unplugging the radio and leaving the harness intact, they just cut the harness. Makes it all the harder to repair. Such a shame. http://i3.tinypic.com/wly61k.jpg
  10. Here's a CD/casette player that showed up on CL today. A long shot, but I needed to post it. http://seattle.craigslist.org/pts/155710746.html
  11. Well I looked at the other items he was selling and there wasn't a Subaru CD among them.
  12. Maybe that's why it was on the ground......target practice!
  13. In a way I'm glad you got it back. Keep your options open and decide whether to buy back the car or not. Sad to see it so destroyed for such minor stuff. Did the police at least try to find who stole it? There was plenty of evidence in our Impreza when it was recovered and I think our local police collected a goodly amount of it but as far as I know never caught the guy.
  14. GD has it right. Or do a search online for www.1stsubaruparts.com; website is down, but 800# still works. Ask for Jason in parts.
  15. Someone came along and offered his cash for all of them without going through ebay; I know it's supposed to not happen, but it likely did.
  16. More photos of OTR: http://www.pdxsports.com/photos/showindex.asp?folder=2006OT
  17. One other thing you might check. The PCV valve; if it gets stuck open, you'll suck oil from the engine straight into the intake manifold and produce volumes of smoke. Your engine might still be lunch, but check the water inlet from the previous post and PCV first before you tear into the engine. Pull the weber and check the inside of the intake manifold; if there are gobs of oil there, it could be as simple as that. Good luck. PS: There are also other ways to suck oil into the engine; check the Air Suction Valve(s) and all the plumbing from the valve covers into the weber intake.
  18. I'm in and my preference is #4.
  19. My son has hauled his 700 pound motorcycle in the bed of our '84 brat along with a passenger. You should be okay with the tub.
  20. August 16th...that's just plain ugly. I'm wishing they would keep the kids in school until the end of June and not go back until the 3rd week of Sept. or so. Our rains don't stop until early July and our "Indian" summers are just too great to keep the kids in a classroom in September.
  21. Influenza Subaruensis; very common in the fall.
  22. Yea, we've got the same problem. Jeanne has to start a week before school starts and this year they started school the week BEFORE Labor Day. Dumb!
  23. Do not mix orange and green; they are not compatible. Green was the old standard and is still more than adequate. I've used orange in the past, but it has a tendency to seep out at the slightest opportunity from a loose hose clamp or faulty seal. Although I never had any trouble with orange and there are some good reasons of using it, I switched back to green after a thorough flushing of the system.
