  1. Thanks for the offer Matt. I am already pepared with an engine; Corky and I pulled a hydraulic engine out of an '87 Hatch with 129K on it from the local PAP. That should do me quite well until we repair the "hot" engine.
  2. Absolutely. By the way is that d/r transmission still available? This might be a good time to install it.
  3. My blue brat which gave up the ghost about 120 miles east of Bozeman, MT is finally heading home. Thanks to tailgatewagon for keeping it safe all this time and palouse rider for getting it to the Spokane area. Hopefully, I'll have it back here before the end of the month.
  4. Now I think I remember. This might help.
  5. I'll give the duct-tape a try. No, the Brat in the pic is my new one. I couldn't turn down a "cherry" '84 which just happens to be the same color as my old one. The old one is coming back from Bozeman today and will reside in Spokane until I get out there to tow it home. Many thanks to tailgatewagon for giving it a safe home until I could arrange a pickup to bring it back. With luck it will be back here by the end of the month and I can determine what led to its demise and repair it.
  6. You're right; I was just confused by Brian's brat since it has the two big square headlights and it's a 83 (but I think his is a DL, come to think of it).
  7. I'm tired of not having a cup holder in the Brat. Next best thing; just have to get out of the car to take a sip!
  8. Which version Enkie are you talking about?
  9. Funny, I can't tell from the description whether these are 4x6 lamps or the older version 5x7 lamps. Either way, one lamp does not fit 82-87 Brats; the early ones had the larger headlamps and '84 and later had the quad headlamps.
  10. Finally posted today: http://www.oregonrally.com/content/results/rallyx/RX_Aug_05.pdf
  11. Sorry, the back seats of both hatches currently in the yard are completely unusable.
  12. Turn slowly and release pressure by opening the bleeder screw on the caliper. There's a check valve in the master cylinder that doesn't allow for back-flow from the caliper.
  13. Let me check on it and see if it is still in excellent condition. ---ed---
  14. I have two front fenders; the wrong color of course, but perfectly clean. I would donate these to the cause....either to use or trade for ones of the correct color. PM me for a 'phone number if you plan to go this route.
  15. I wouldn't think it needs a front clip and fenders, hood, bumper, and radiator are all bolt on items. Front radiator support can likely be hammered out. Is that LSD on this car? If so, don't let the diff go. Lots of parts at local Pull a Part yard but I didn't see any in your color. Check out craigslist and see if it would be easier/better to replace or repair. Good luck with it. PS: Good time to upgrade to an older Legacy or Impreza wagon.
  16. Pat, it's about time. You certainly gave the previous owner ample time to claim it. Good on you!
  17. And no, I don't know why the turbo Legacy was in the yard. Besides the turbo was long gone.
  18. Typical price is $150 plus tax and that's what I paid for the EA81 Corky and I pulled two weeks ago. I was surprised they didn't ding me for the carb, manifold, disty and everything else on the engine, but I wasn't complaining. It might have had something to do with the fact that the computer was down and the cash registers weren't up. --ed--
  19. Found a '92 legacy turbo wagon in the yard today. Turbo is gone already; has automatic tranny and 3.900 diff; hood scoop is gone. Struts still there (not air suspension). '85 Turbo sedan; turbo gone; rear disks gone (I got them). Nice 2WD hatch ('85); automatic tranny gone and engine is just waiting for someone to take it out (loose); car only has 113K on the odometer!! Axles are still there and they look fine. Dark blue color and pretty clean body for the most part.
  20. Did he change both filters (the one on the fuel pump and the other in the engine compartment). If he ran out of gas, he probably sucked all the crap out of the bottem of the tank and clogged a filter. Not sure that a EA82 pump will work properly. Does he have spark? If not, I'd suspect the igniter module in the distributor.
  21. Sorry, I looked into replacing the bearings in the tensioner. This is not easily done unless you have access to a machine shop. Pressing bearings off and on is easy, except the inner shaft of the tensioner is peened over the inner race. Only way to retain the bearing after removing the old bearing is to drill and tap the shaft and bolt the new bearing in (and pray the bolt never comes loose). Been there and tried it and found it's not worth the effort and cost.
  22. Cool, unless moosens is hiding a newer model somewhere, I think the '82 GLF is the latest manufactured car in his collection. Welcome to the EA81 world, Paul.
