  1. strange, drivers side breather hose was super clogged until i made the condensator (which works, might i add). i had to blow my lungs out until a bunch of clumps of sooty crap shot out the end. there's a few drops of oil in the air cleaner housing, and the pcv filter (little square of foam) had a bit of oil in it, nothing serious. the first thing i replaced on my car after i bought it was a pcv valve because the thing had a huge crack in it.
  2. vancouver island? where abouts do you hail from? i'm an island native, lived here my entire life.
  3. i remember that day. i had a few friends in the car (grand am, free), and we all screamed.
  4. my 88 gl 3dr has something like 109 000, third owner.
  5. i have a loud squeal when i brake and turn left....thought it was the brakes. turns out i need a new axle. . i'm REALLY looking forward to changing it, the two wreckers in this town have no subaru parts at all. looks like i'm buying the donor car down the road from my house for 200 bucks.
  6. i found some weird things on the interior of my 88 gl hatch. right above the floor in front of the back seat there's a little plastic knock-out cover thing, and underneath there is a threaded hole with no apparent purpose. one on both the driver's and passenger's side.
  7. if they let me drive that wrx i'd probably just crash it and die right away.
  8. haha, i thought the same the first time i read that.
  9. this might not be the best help, but i would just take the compressor out.
  10. strange, my speedo reads in km/h but my oil pressure gauge reads in psi.
  11. fixed! i put a new belt on and it squeals no more. thanks a bunch.
  12. when you blow your hg, look for steam. if you have everything pulled apart and the hg looks fine, it seems logical that it's fine. i changed the hg on my old car (87 grand am), and the blown gasket was fine except for one little spot where it seemed to burn away or something.
  13. hello, this is probably my third post or so, but i've been lurking on these boards for a while now. im 19, and have owned my sube for about 6 months now. 88 gl hatch, 2wd at(i wanted 5 speed awd but the price was right), carb, ea81. anyways, i start the car up, it starts purring, then about 5 minutes later i can hear the faint beginnings of a squeak. when i give it a bit of gas it gets loud, but if i give it more gas, it goes away. even more so when the car is actually moving. if im going about 30-40 km/h, the sound can be heard, but not when im going faster then that. i doubt its the timing belt, because there doesn't seem to be one on my engine. do ea81s have a timing gear in the flywheel housing or something? if i'm being vague just let me know and i'll do the best i can to elaborate further. thanks.
  14. lookin good, i need to haul the engine in mine and reseal everything soon, the crossmember is an oil factory. can't help you with the pcv/idle troubles though.
  15. i have a code 14....chiltons doesn't say anything about a code 14. 88 gl hatch, 2wd at, ea81, carb etc etc.
  16. that happened to mine, i put a hole in the muffler though. it wasn't really a throaty chug, more of a small-engined airplane drone. tough to explain. you look at your exhaust system. start at the y-pipe. does the heat shield look damaged? is everything (y-pipe to exhaust) lined up correctly (bolts)? does the muffler look damaged? sorry about the disjointedness, its tough for me to make sentences sometimes.
