  1. same, i've climbed a snowy mountain to go to our cabin several times this year in my fwd sube. snow tires though.
  2. haha, seems mine is healthy then. my dad had an old datsun truck with rust like that loyale's. i think it was given away.
  3. HAHA, i had the exact same problem. i was at the top of a long hill after climbing it, smelled smoke so i pulled over. popped the hood and lo and behold, the cat was on fire. grabbed some water used for emergency radiator situations and saved my little car's life. needless to say, i got rid of the cat. subiemech, are you saying that by draining out old oil and putting atf in and idling for a couple minutes won't clean up my valves and quiet the tick? if so, i just wasted ten bucks on a huge jug of the stuff. i have an ea81 btw.
  4. losing a vehicle to an accident is always a blow. i totalled my first car when i rearended a buick. i suppose its a bit different than sliding on ice, but still, cars get replaced. i got a sube after i wrecked my first one so good things can be made from bad things. you're in once peice, insurance works good most of the time, and you have a home to go to. and in 10 more days its christmas, if you're into that sort of thing. get yourself an ea81 wagon and make it a snow machine. show the ice who's boss.
  5. on a different note, how difficult is it to get a title for a car bought from a salvage yard. there is an immaculate 83 black brat, wagon wheels, 4spdr and the like. only problem is no tailgate, flat tires, no radiator. i could get it for 200 (canadian dollars). sorry about the thread hijacking. here, you can have it back.
  6. things like this make me grateful for my twisty heater knobs a la ea81.
  7. t-belt changes are pretty easy, i'd say the hardest thing is getting the plastic cover off the front of your engine to actually access the belts.
  8. one, and it runs. sometimes it smokes though, lots of oil on the cat.
  9. they should swap out just fine, as long as neither of them are turbo, and both are ea82.
  10. keep the sube, you should'nt even need to question it.
  11. works fine in new quicktime. good stuff!!
  12. it's a repair that takes all but an hour and a half of your time, unless you run into some snags. i'd definately replace the axle with the torn boot anyways, keeps peace of mind in order.
  13. sledge hammer + block of wood = great success. that's how i kept a few axles and repacked them as well as new boots.
  14. theres one in my town. its a beater sedan, still pretty cool though.
  15. i bought my 88 gl hatch from a dealership in may, and it had a cd player in it. someone had cut out a thick peice of black plastic cut to fit around where the radio and various console compartments were and glued it on. it looks pretty clean, but a better job could have been done with a spacer for the cd player and no cutting at all.
  16. seems odd, the front axles on my 88 hatch came out no sweat, the p side one was original. the rears can be a pain, mine came out with a bfh and some penetrating oil.
  17. my carb hesitates to give my motor fuel when i go around corners. i learned to love its quirks.
  18. i live out in the sticks and everytime i leave my house there is a sharp turn on a paved road about a kilometer away. one day i went into the ditch on that turn because i accidentally gunned the motor going around it. i managed to roll onto the door and crushed my mirror. that was embarassing. wasnt in a sube though.
  19. i had those zovacs, they were excellent.
