Mosquito Pass, Colorado
That jeep fell off and the driver was crushed. But he got a nice photo op before he died being an idiot. his family never got the insurance check for death insurance. That was due to the photo posting of him driving offroad on the edge of a cliff. they said they couldnt cover own stupidity or brain conditions making one do that. They later bought a Subaru and still drive it. err something like that.

Is 60k Timing Belt Service A Hard/Fast Rule?
bheinen74 replied to roadsubiedog's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXand I do not know a single person who has the early ej22 who replaces at the 60k interval. We run them til they get 175k or til they snap. then we install a new one to last another 175k You simply cannot do that on the new ones, cauase you will bend valves when they snap. I have seen the aftermarket belts and the instruction in the aftermarket kit sometimes say replace at 70k interval. That makes sense, they are not oem quality. OEM belts on the new ones are 105k interval. Don't go past that.

05 HG failure? add more additive?
bheinen74 replied to brus brother's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXVerify it is either oil or coolant. If it is oil leaking which is the normal on the 05+, then the conditioner for coolant will do nothing. The oil passageway is totally separate system from the coolant system. It usually shows up as oil drips on the lower part where the head meets the block, on the bottom edge. It is just where the oil passageway is for return back to pan, at least that is the place where i have found the 05+ ej25 to leak. That is liveable for a while until it leaks enough to cause smoke from burnoff or strong oil smell when the engine gets warm and operating temp. It usually is liveable cause it leaks only a bit and the oil can be topped off. When it gets real bad you will run low on oil and then damage could occur. My dad is going to replace the passenger HG on his 06 outback with 290k miles. The driver side head actually looks new on the car, shiny, and dry. The passenger head looks original to the car, and it leaking on the bottom. My mom is going to complain of the burning oil smell so it will be addressed. I will attempt pics of the replacement, he is going to try to do it IN CAR. I ordered a intake gasket, headgasket, cam oil seal, and valve cover gasket. I guess if it cannot be done on car, then will post that info later.

bheinen74 replied to sube_forester's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou probably didn't use the right marks on the center crank. it is the mark on the back. Same for cams you probably used wrong marks.

Light Bar / Brush Guard / Bull Bar / Skid Plate
You gave greatly improved the product in pic on post #7 vs the original design in post1. Now you have it reinforced better, where the plate "wraps" around the sub-frame now, and is a lot better in the way the entire design is reinforced. I suppose, with some modification to it, by cutting out a air vent hole on both front sides, and cutting out for the drain plug and filter access, i may be interested in one for my brothers 02 wrx. Looks much better the second design, I could work the oil access. Sure, removing 5 or 6 bolts to change oil is not that difficult, but even then that takes time and you need too have the car up on a jack. Changing oil, with access holes, you wouldn't need the car on jack at all, plus we all know how 1 year winter driving rusts the bolts up front. LOOKING LOTS BETTER>

She's got the Cancer!
We will need a pic of your small rust hole.

1992 subaru loyale 4x4 speedo
^ tend to agree on that. It could be the cable pulled loose at the speedo, but your speedo is fine it is mechanical, not known to go out. So your mechanic ,when he changed you axle, pulled something loose and he sounds like the kind of guy who will just keep trying to get money out of you for little simple stuff that he prbably knows the truth it is not the cluster, but instead takes you as being a sucker for expensive stuff. He probably reached his hand up under the steering column and pulled he cable out, so he can charge you easy cheap and pricey labor to plug it back in, all the while upsaling you on a 2 hour job.... GET a new mechanic. Oh, and now i re-read about clutch and axle, i didnt catch the clutch part, yeah he yanked a littel too much on the cable and i is pulled loose at the speedo cluster or pulled loose at the trans. either way you mechanic sucks to say the cluster is bad.

No historic love for the NW?
My honest voice on that is that you guys crushed them all, even the nice non rusted ones. That is the truth sadly. the guy at Subaru heaven had 700 ea71 wagons that ran and drove, he yanked out the power plants, drivetrain engine, interior, glass, and crushed the swiss cheese bodies of ALL 700 last year. The bodies were not even fixable, but everything else on them was good. So you guys on the west coast, could sell some to us and we can get them going again. I have been lucky enough to chat and meet the gut at subaru Heaven. He is 72, and is a nice guy, his kids do not like car stuff. Someday, it will be even more sad on this and what he has collected.

Light Bar / Brush Guard / Bull Bar / Skid Plate
Not to knock it, but that oil / filter change has got to suck. The old factory skidplates left acess holes to get the drain plug out, and get the filter off. And then the oil would drain out and down the drain holes too. additionally the facotry plates have venting so you don't cook your oil in the pan and filter. airflow is good for the oil pan, vents are needed.

Got a bonus, what to do with $?
houses are money pits, gold and silver is overpriced, and FACEBOOK will tank in about 3 days of IPO. Buy a vacant farm lot, and park as many junkcars on it you can find. Money cow......

Where to Find an EJ22 Donor in Colorado?
CAP Colorado Auto Parts. Up in Denver It is a self serve junkyard, you go there, find the lowest miles subaru and pull it. Broken nipples Turbo coolant filler tank
bheinen74 replied to borderboy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXGD, Thank you for the link provision. Out of my 5 or 6 turbo legacies, i have been lucky only one tank had a broken nipple. All my others have been fine. I got 2 spares now on a shelf, well one is attached to the engine still :-\ The whole thread title. "broken nipples" sounds like a nasty strip club issue. lol I suppose I would name a business that if I had one.

Broken nipples Turbo coolant filler tank
bheinen74 replied to borderboy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThere a few ways to repair using brass hose barb, threaded pipe etc and some jbweld to seal it. You find a threaded pipe of any kind, brass, etc, and then thread it into your tank and epoxy it. You can search and find the how-to's where they talk about it.

What Have You Done to your Soobie lately? (Please post in here and keep it going)
^ ^ There is no upper cutoff. You should receive many tickets if you drive on the highway. You do plan to fabricate a cutoff to avoid tickets? perhaps that would be smart before you glue the lenses back on. if not, those will be ridiculously dangerous to oncoming drivers. They might wreck right into a you, a BIG MACK truck or something will loose his sight when meeting you on a narrow 2 lane road. boom.
