Cone washer
search found At this point you want to remove the castle nut, the spring washer, and the conical spacer. Make a note of which way the spring washer was originally oriented, GeneralDisorder writes that it should have a "slight bubble to it - like the surface of a lens. The bubble goes out towards the nut". The conical spacer is the innermost ring with a small gap in it and it can be a pain to remove since it's often wedged in tightly between the hub and the axle. One way to get it started is to place the 3/16" punch up against one side of the small gap and tap hard. With any luck that will break it loose. If the conical spacer came out, skip what I'm just about to say, you can now smack the CV axle out through the hub and steering knuckle with a hammer or push it through with a gear puller (since all the brake hardware is still solidly in place). GeneralDisorder writes that "Getting the hub off is easiest if you just smack the end of the axle with a copper or brass hammer..." If the conical spacer didn't come out, you can try what I tried. Attach an 8" gear puller to the hub and crank it until the hub, rotor, and conical spacer pop off together, usually with a nice loud *BANG* to scare the bejeezus out of you (at least it did to me, just be prepared). You'll need to pull the brake calipers off and hang them aside / off the strut springs. You can tell in the photo below that my rotors are in pretty bad shape, and now is a great time to replace them (new ones ~$15/ea at NAPA).

Hit a moose in the justy
so now driving I-70:grin:, need to watch out for falling rocks, crazy snowboarder traffic, the once every so often bridge girder collapse, and the occasional bullwinkles.

Back flush a fuel filter?
bheinen74 replied to ericem's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthis is not standard protocol, unless you are stranded in the middle of a desert and the fiilter is clogged, would do this just to get you back on the road. The filter is a paper type which absorbs all the particles, once trapped, there is no way to dislodge the sediment from the filament. Do you reuse burned out light bulbs, NO. same on this, it is basically the most critical part of the car. if the filter is newer, than just install it, do not blow air thru it. It will be fine as is.

replaced rear main and oil separator... now leaks in front and back!
bheinen74 replied to shortskoolbus's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXits a subaru, old seals will leak. even new ones will leak. I remember thumbing thru the records for my old Turbo wagon, and at 11 miles on the car, it was back to the dealer for oil leaks. Yes, 11 miles, a new Subaru was back at the dealer for oil leaks.

Journey of a T-leg picture show 56k warning June 3rd
bheinen74 replied to xoomer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXdoesn't the DOHC make it an interference motor? that would sort of be a downgrade, and could possibly be the only reason a ej22t closed deck block could end up to the scrapper. yes, more power, but why not just boost it to 30 psi with a larger turbo for power. the heads are pretty good on a ej22t, this has been discussed before.

1984 subaru brat, is this a good deal?
with my parts Brat i just got, its super clean in the shock support wheel wells, see my 82 Brat GL partout pics link. I am in Iowa so this could end up a easy project. The front and rockers on my BRAT are gone, but the bed, is super solid.

Hole in the block?
look up right on the top side of block, center side, right under the intake runners.....for a blown out hole.
-
New turbo coupe owner, need some help identifying some things in the engine bay.
wow the intake throttle body is all gunked up too. I would try to clean that with some spray or something, will help performance.

okay the 82 Brat pics and name what you need or want
tailgate with chrome, sidearm, and hinges, COMPLETE was thinking ????125?????? that is for everthing attached to it. It is in great shape, one small dent can be seen in picture. chrome is maybe 7 out of 10 tailgate, would give a 8.75 out of 10 due to the dent.
-
okay the 82 Brat pics and name what you need or want
The access plate for the tailgate will stay with the tailgate unless the person does not want them. No on the slant console. Yes grey interior. Console pretty good, shift boot bad, but McBrat makes them. E brake cover is good, will get pictures of the inside tonight.
