OKAY WTF! Answer me this.
To answer why they want it to vent to atmosphere, is because so many un-informed people think they are smarter than the engineers who have spent years researching the correct way a vehicle runs. In turn, they blow up way too many of these cars than is neccessary al while they add 200 pound speakers and make them slower than the factory makes them. rant over

bheinen74 replied to mellow65's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXtoday 50 mph wind, head wind at times mostly cross wind, did 600 miles in the baja. will update soon on real but about 28 with that killer wind going 72mph i usually do 30 in it, but the 50mph wind in Nebraska/western iowa sucked i got sandblasted in a few parking lots from gravel.....

Iowa Campout Weekend 2011. AKA Midwest Subaru Nuts
How about, camp friday night at Lake Plamor (little unknown spot off I-80 in the sticks on gravel near a river and lake) and then I show you guys the Newton Junkyard and sho you the hoops there and we scrounge there, they are open til 1pm on Saturday and have lots soobs, ea82 or ea81's, 1SVX with 52k badly treated miles til tan failed, lots of 90-94 legs i think about 10 of those ere with ej22, a few impreztle, 3 outbacks, and a couple gen 3 legacyies, and they still have a xt5 stacked in the air with a good alternator and some newere stuff.... link http://www.camplakeplamor.com/ and a alternate is Rock Creek State Park close, maybe some of the WI guys and MO and NE and MN would come since it is central.

Subaru Imprezza 2012
bheinen74 replied to nipper's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThose saying they don't like the mirrors, here is my valid response and it is two fold. 1: The BRAT had mirrors mounted to the door 2: It is very apparent the wind noise we get near the mirror triangles on the ones mounted to the window, on thie newer cars where it is mounted on the glass corner, not door. This is a solution to the mirror wind-noise. They may have fixed something by going back in time to the old version. good job Subaru And i big kudos of love for striving for better fuel mileage, and for going for less HP. I love lighter, less power, as quick if not faster with less power, and getting lots better mpg/ done with rant, and very good job Subaru.

newest project fail got outbid
got outbid on this 2004 5pd with only 72k miles, lego in DM auction. I bid 800, the high bid was 975. the snowflakes would have been worth 400 and the engine worth the other. I was going to part it, but a trip to Omaha during the auction end did not allow me to bid like usual. Car was in Des Moines auction ended at 11:30 today. grrr.....2004 35th anniversary car........ and i lost the auction on the 2005 Sti tuesday. No new prijects. Airbags were even good on this one and it was very clean speed car.not a happy guy..

Confused ~ A reoccuring comment
bheinen74 replied to plaidfro's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXa few post up i read you know of cars with the original headgaskets. Ej25 dohc cars? I would put money (on the dohc ej25) they are bubbling into the overflow jar after 150k.......good money that i don't have.. They may not be overheating, they may not be spitting the coolant out the overflow, but yes, i sayy they are blown and you will see bubbles after a 45 minute trip when you look on the overflow jar, that is blown headgasket. cheerrs

new weber adapter plate is leaking
this is a very known, but not acceptable issue with the weber redline kit. The apapter is a pos... plain out. it is not even worry to be in the kit. What a terrible adapter. I hope they read this and address the quality control. Until then, get really thick gaskets and silicon away. Silicon happy... don't forget to glue, jb weld, etc, the coolant portion on the plate. bh

Screwed up, valves bent
bheinen74 replied to eppoh's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthis is why we recommend a good Subaru mechanic. Or else recommend SOA make them non interference again which were uber reliable....

The FB engines.
bheinen74 replied to Durania's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXsame as Subaru heritage dictates, down left, same as the EA71/EA81 like on Brat. That ea81 was second best subaru engine, no timing belts, non interference like the ej22 of early. yay Subaru of America finally gives us what we have asked for But they need make them Small like tiny, and have aFWD all the time, with a push button for AWD Engineers here looking please note, that a 2.0 FB coupled to the original 4spd dual range in front drive mode will get 42mpg easy. do you watch my posts???? add 5th gear you get 45mpg......get this then add 6th gear OD get 50mph..... but no you engineers do not follow enough of this board, but you are trying for mpg so follow more, mkay .............bh

Confused ~ A reoccuring comment
bheinen74 replied to plaidfro's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXbasically, any EJ25 with the 97-99 DOHC (dual overhead cam heads) will have at some point the inevitable failed headgasket issue. Stay away from the dohc ej25 of the Outback, Forester 97-99 and you will be fine. thats the easiest advice i can provide.

The FB engines.
bheinen74 replied to Durania's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXyep the newly debuted Impreza has the FB20, the 2.0 variation. Smaller, lighter, it propels the newest Impreza a little quicker than the older 2.5, even though it has less power, it still scoots and is rated at 36mpg on the highway in CVT form. Those figures best the base Chevrolet Cruze, Chrysler 200, Ford Focus, Mazda3, Nissan Sentra, Suzuki Kizashi, Toyota Corolla, and Volkswagen Jetta - all with automatic transmissions and without all-wheel drive, a feature that traditionally exacts a notable mileage penalty. I hope Subaru goes to the smaller 2.0 in the entire lineup by year 2014. That would give legacy around 35mpg highway when they do. Good job Subaru for going all out for best gas mileage.

New EJ22T
bheinen74 replied to markman34's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe numbers, are more around 2900 total. Of those about half were 5speeds. Then the colors came up, with a few colors a "order only" that they were never painted unless a customer specail ordered it that way. Only about 500 were the 1994. MY 94's VIN ended in in less than 499, in fact my crimson red is number 499 We need to get a VIN database log on BBS, which is how they do it over on SVX net. There were fewer turbo legs made than SVX. I have saved now 3 turbo legs from becoming ej22t donor cars... my current 94SS 0499 my former: 92SS 07844 my former 93SS 05823 my former 94 Turbo wagon 0444 and the 94 one i sold mick was like 29x somone, please start a dbase. sometimes i write down vins of the SVX in junkyard sighting or take a pic of vin plate so they can update the svx database. whatever the outcome, not many are left still around. Most were wrecked and junked, or scrapped in favor of a ej22T swap to impreza or newer WRX.

Need opions on potential purchase
bheinen74 replied to jboymechanic's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX^ tow bill? If it was me, i would go there with all necessary tools to redo the timing belt. Buy the car, pull it down the block to some abandoned business parking lot, tear into it, with plans to drive it home...

Need opions on potential purchase
bheinen74 replied to jboymechanic's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXprobably timing belt or something simple. If he used OEM Subaru headgasket with receipts to prov it, I would say go for it. If seller used some discount store Head gaskets, i would stay away, cause they are never going to last and you will be doing the job all over again.

What happened? *Coolant Blowout*
you were messing with a thermo gasket, and then when you then refilled the radiator, and didnt burp air out, something had to blow. A combination of a defective radiator too could be part to blame, not just a air pocket. Burp the car, with heat temp knob on hottest, and raise the front of the car more than the rear to get the radiator as high in the air to let out air. Too lat now, but for next time. If you did everything right, i lean towards chinese made part quality.

bheinen74 replied to markman34's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXcheck ATF (dipstick is hidden away on the left side almost under the side of the starter, down from the coolant tank) check for burnt smell, or dark coloring. Ideally you want nice clean pinkish stuff. make sure tires match. good car if you find a nice one. All touring wagons only were offered with the auto Power antenna on rear right like to break. dash lights like to get burned out for instrument cluster.
