  1. It's mechanical - so the gauge may have been showing 0, but the engine was probably still going.
  2. I wouldn't worry about it. The ECU probably got a slow reading from a sensor for a second and then the sensor responded.
  3. Vacuum or IAC it seems. Probably IAC because it's not so pronounced when the car is warm.
  4. Some vehicles are not meant to tow large trailers...
  5. Short answer: Yes. There should be a warning label in the car stating the correct distance from the wheel someone should sit so that they are not injured.
  6. Silverstars are blue in that they are not yellow. A natural Halogen bulb has a yellowsh tint - the silverstars are just dyed blue to make them white. I have an update on mine: About a month after my first post in this thread, my left headlamp low beam filament decided to stop working, so I had to swap in my old headlamp bulbs. Barely a year and a half old and the bulb already crapped out. Thanks Silverstars.... In my SVX, I don't have any Silverstars, but my headlamps are tons brighter than the ones were in my 1991 Legacy. I think that's due to design and a higher wattage bulb. There are not Silverstars in and nor do I plan putting any in. The white of the Silverstar Bulb made night driving on wet roads darn near impossible. The road just reflected the light.
  7. It will wire right, but I think he's going to have issues with the fact that the 95 EJ22 isn't OBDII? Well, I guess it depends on when it was built. It'll work, it'll just take some effort...
  8. The EJ25, for 4-5 years was a problematic engine (to ~15% of their owners). Before that, Subaru produced the EJ22 for 6 years which was not problematic. Before that, Subaru produced the EA series engines, which were not problematic aside from the EA82 Turbo. So, in Subaru's past 20 years, they've had one engine go bad and that automatically means they're a terrible automaker? Hardly. Every other automaker has had its share of problems. Ford and transmissions, Chevrolet and poorly designed engines, etc. Did you write them off? No. Just because we hear about problems on this forum does not mean they are indicative of every engine. If every EJ25 owner had HG issues, we'd have a lot more problems - not just 2 or 3 posters every two weeks.
  9. The engine will bolt in. Will it wire up correctly? Probably not. The Forester had an EJ25, not an EJ22.
  10. Quite the opposite. Having a turbo makes you get less mpg. Why? On boost, you're pushing more air, but you're burning more gas also.
  11. Well, you'll probably do all right. The transmission is a good transmission. Just check for torquebind and what not. The EJ22T is only 160hp. If you need more than that stock, you'd have to jump to a SVX.
  12. If you do primarily city driving, the turbo will eat your mpg - probably 16-18mpg city. The tranny's are just fine.
  13. At this point in time, I bet the CD player is just shot as it is. Not even worth your time looking into why it doesn't work.
  14. As far as I know (from when I called my dealer), that lifetime warranty started in 1995.
  15. Hmm. On my Legacy, I pulled the rotors off without even needing to drive them. As soon as I pulled the caliper, the rotor was just dangling.
  16. In terms of reliability? I guess so. But, Toyota's are just meant to be daily drivers in nice weather. Subaru's are a little more sporty with the ever useful AWD.
  17. And if you grinded down the rotors, they could look next to new.
  18. No. Subaru is turning into cookie cutter cars and bland styling. Look at the new Impreza.
  19. AFAIK, the "ground effects" is just some body cladding on the bumper...like skirts.
  20. The timing is controlled electronically. As long as the timing belt is lined up correctly, there should be no problem with timing.
  21. 1994 got a little weird with the trims. There was the Legacy Alpine Sport, legacy Sun Sport(?), Legacy Outdoor Wagon, and Legacy GT. If you look on the cars101 website, it will explain everything.
  22. The 1996 2.2L is not interference. HOWEVER, it does have solid lifters that need to be adjusted. The 1996 2.5L is interference and does run on premium fuel. If the 1996 Legacy is not an auto outback, it does not have the 2.5L engine and is not interference.
