  1. is the law against selling or using? if i own 2 legacys and wreck one can i move the parts around?
  2. i've never dealt with a cat before. is there a restriction against selling used cats???
  3. another thought, moving more air across the cooling element will not necessarily decrease the temp. it will produce colder air if the fan is moving slower, more time to cool the air; it will cool the car faster if the fan is moving faster. you will have a colder vent if the fan is on low, less air it has to cool.
  4. yes the front diff is bolted on to the trans and the unit is called a transaxle. if the trans you install has the same model number as the one you remove then all the gearing will match. if you choose a trans model from a different year, try and get the tcu computer as well, if you choose a different model vehicle, legacy vs. outback vs. gt, then get the tcu and rear diff as well. but any tz102zaaaa will bolt right into a 95 leg awd 2.2 a/t and run. search "car-part.com" for your trans. hundreds to choose from.
  5. the wiring harness changed between 98 and 99. apparently they added some stuff to the 99 trans. most model year productions ran from july thru june. most of the years, the trans model numbers changed just the last 4 charters. but in some cases other characters changed. example: TZ102ZAAAA = 95 LEG 2.2L A/T AWD the Z's indicate awd TA102AAAAA = 95 LEG 2.2 A/T FWD; 2&6 "A"s = fwd TZ102ZABAA = 96 LEG 2.2L A/T AWD TZ102ZACAA = 97/98 2.2L LEG A/T AWD TZ102Z2CBA = 97/98 2.5L a/t awd outback; the 2 = 2.5L except in 96 where in meant outback trim TZ102Z2DBA = 98/99 2.5L a/t awd outback TZ1A2ZJEBA = 99 (late) 2.5 a/t awd outback; the 4th A is different, new gen of trans???????? TZ1A4ZCCA = 2000 2.5 a/t awd outback; another change yet again in addition the gt's and the lsi have different model numbers... the obw and sus have different rear ends and gearing... the long and short of it is , lots of trans mission will bolt right on, but the computers may not be happy and they wiring may be different. so get one that matches. i have put this info together through my onnw reasearch, and it may not be entirely accurate. john
  6. those are both 2000 trans model numbers. is usually printed on trhe top of the trans, back of the engine, near the fire wall, view from the drivers side. it also will be on the metal plate riveted to the strut housing near the fuse box under the hood. at least it is on the late 90's. but, the easiest thing to do is to go to "car-part.com" and plug in your information. i always sort my search by distance, that way i look at the closest salvage yards first. some may be with in driving distsnce. good luck.!!
  7. would the knock sensor / piston slap trip a cel code?? or just the computer adjusting the engine to "run better"? is there a way to trick the computer , jump out the knock sensor, to test if this is the problem? thanks, john
  8. how did you package it. strap it down to a pallet? any wrapping or padding? what company did you use? it's too bad he was a friend. coming back for 60% more $ is outrageous. would have been nice to just walk away. i wonder if i can send it cod? john
  9. as i recall the cross members have a slight curve to them, will this be aproblem for the bikes, to lean out from the center? i think i might mount the brackets close to the out side for greater stability and less flex. just a thought.
  10. any one have any experience shipping a trans. weight, carrier, cost, packaging??? thanks john
  11. maybe... if you go to the member section of the usmb, and search members in va, you can pick out an active local you could contact. i'm in roanoke but i'm pretty new here. where's your car and how long are you going to be around.? john
  12. there are lots of power supplis for 12v dc. also 12vac, or 16vac, or 24vdc. it all depends on what you're trying to do. how much juice does a car stereo pull. almost all home alarm systems run on 12v dc. so you could tie in there if you have one. i dreamed of hooking up a car cigarette lighter to mine. but what would i use it for that i couldn't do with 120v ac??
  13. come to think of it mine slipped off the mounting bracket once when i was trying to open the cap. so maybe it fell down and is hanging by the wire. do you think jutboy is reading any of this?
  14. i ve got one in va if you are interested . '99 automatic transmission with only 4 k miles on it??. the donor car was wrecked on the left side dead center. bought it to go in a 97 but the wiring harness changed so we went with an older model. vin#: 4S3BG6856X7661024 model # TZ1A2ZJEBA-WZ let me know. john
  15. SINCE NO ONE COULD FIND IT. i wonder why a fuse in the first place why not a switch. or connector. has any one ever seem this fuse blow??
  16. how old is the water pump.? i had over heat problems in a 90 nissan pick up. over heat on extra hot days, ran fine all winter. finally replaced the pump (after the t-stat, cap, fan clutch). one of the fins on the impeller was caroded away, gone. no problems since. first time i ever saw a pump go bad without leaking.
  17. if youare working on the trans wait and do it then al at once. by the way you don't have to start a new theread for each question.
  18. i'm not sure about the term transfer clutch, may be the real name or a hold over from the big 4x4s. the rear end of the a/trans has a computer controled clutch that send power to the rear wheels when the front wheels spin. torque bind is the rear wheels locked, always powered. 2 causes, 1.bad duty c solenoid, 2. diry build up in vale seat of duty c solenoid. bad cases of tporque bind need new clutches, $950; lessor problem can be solved by flushing the trans fluid ($125) or replacing the duty c ($50 part plus 3 or 4 hours labor). the 95 is likely to have the dirty build up, if the clutch is not bad , flushing may help. the 98 should have the corrected trans. does your A/T TEMP light come on and flash at you when you start the car.??
  19. what are you driving, year model trans miles engine? the 95 could be fwd, but not the 98, look again. does the trans have a drive shaft out the rear?
  20. i agree. it has to be electrical. what sensor would measure what to give a 'grea ratio' cel. as much as i'd like to sell you my 99 a/t, i think that's just the dealers solution for evrything. i went in asking about my duty c solenoid and what codes were in the system (a/t temp light code). they said i needed a clutch pack. yeah... but what code... you need a clutch pack...$950.
  21. i'd put in a 2.2 and then decide to sell or not. if you do it , what's it cost, $500?? you want to play around with the 2.5 afterwards and rebuild / sell then you have time.
