Here is some interesting observations based on today. I'll explain: Sitting in my driveway, the car is in neutral I hit the gas and bring it up to 3k or more Let off the gas **Engine seems to stumble right around 1,500rpm. I hear what sounds to be a misfire through the exhaust.** Car hits idle and transition is smooth Shut down the car and it misfires/stumbles which can be felt and heard through the exhaust easily Could it be an exhaust leak pre-cat that is causing the stumble/misfire? I'm pretty sure I have one based on the seafoam smoke Seafoam of the day: I added about 2/3 of a can of Seafoam through the pcv today. Follow procedure; I've done this a few times with other cars. I turn the key off and the engine kept running for ~4seconds. Why?

It took me forever to find mine and I've owned 5 New Gen Subarus. Mine was hidden behind a stalk of wires and it was completely black..

It's a 1996 2.2L. Here is the list of new parts in the past 2 months: Exhaust (almost all, except the cats and o2 sensors, but no leaks anywhere) Ignition coil Spark plugs (today) Timing was reset Motor mounts transmission mount PCV valve and connecting hoses all cleaned IAC cleaned MAF cleaned Axles and stuff, but this is unrelated The timing has been off for a little while, but just discovered and fixed today! I was throwing a code for cylinder 1 + 3 misfires. The car now runs great and doesn't have the constant misfire it used too. It is a non-interference engine. When I replaced the spark plugs, the 2 that were misfiring were pretty black. When I peaked into those two cylinders they also looked pretty black. I can hear the car misfire through the exhaust when I come down to idle from decelerating. Usually happens around 1,000rpm or so. The idle then smoothes out and I don't hear it misfire. Also, the car will misfire badly when I turn the engine off. I will be at idle (of course) and then turn it off. It misfires loudly until total shut down. What do you guys think? I am going to run seafoam through the top of the engine and the gas tank tomorrow morning.....

Hi, Just looking for opinions since I can't make a decision. I have a '96 Impreza L wagon with manual windows, no cruise or abs. It is a very light car. It has a 2.2L in it with 140k and the timing belt and acc. were replace 10k ago. The motor runs great. I also have a '98 2.5L OBW with a brand new Subaru crate long block that was installed by a dealer 40k ago in 2005. This car also runs great. Both are 5spd I really want to put the 2.5L in my Impreza.... The Impreza is supposed to be the fun car, on the road, dirt, snow

A few years ago there was a video floating around of someone on the board here running their impreza through a big water hole. I think it was one of the guys in WA that lifted it; I think it had a snorkel too...? It started to float half-way through the pond cause it got too deep. It was an epic video! Anyone know what I am talking about?

FWD = torque steer Sure tires and weight provide traction, but that has to be controlled for; therefore leaving the difference in the drive system.

AWD provides better traction in any condition.

I'll stick with AWD

The only way to get a 2.2L in a Legacy Outback is a 1996 5spd; unless it's swapped.

I am totally interested and in cny/wny. Would like to see pics and a price. (Probably should be in classiieds)

its probably the handle and bracket rusted out. If you do a search here you'll find part #s and directions on how to replace it. Is the bracket rusty?

A lemon is 3 problems of the same sort not being fixed after those 3 attempts to fix it. BTW, not to hijack; I have a 2005 LL bean I'm looking to sell to get myself into a STi

Plugs are the window into the motor

The H6 is as reliable as the 4cyl. Headgaskets were fixed late 2003.

OBS is usually Impreza Outback Sport, and they will not have the wiring.
