CCR is great...but you're in alaska so shipping would be outrageous I would look around at local J-yards for a running used engine. Again, go cheap cause there are so many miles on the body. 2.2L are pretty reliable as you know (267K miles) so maybe look around for a ~100k block

They are no plug seals on the 2.2L So, just do the valve covers...along with the other stuff

Is the rear cam seal on the passenger side as easy as it looks...Just undo the two bolts holding the cover on, then replace the seal and put the cover back on??

1997 is when the 2.2 started as interference motors. You might want to consider doing all the oil seals (besides HG) when he does the timing belt. Don't have time to explain now, search some of my older post I did it all when I had a clutch done

Yea valve cover gaskets....but that still doesn't explain the coolant, so investigate further.

Crazy....I justed noticed a (small) coolant leak on the pass. side where the timing cover and engine come together. Turns out it was the upper radiator hose leaking...Had to feel it with my hand - that's how small it was. You might want to check the hose out. BTW - the water pump is on the driver side, so thats out of the question Don't know what to tell you about the oil. Maybe, check inside the timing cover from underneath. You should also inspect the oil pan gasket...the front of mine has a small leak too, which I also found while doing a oil change

You can just swap the tranny. See how the motor is...might have bad HG's

A company makes some sort of hardened sleve that helps the juddering. Subaru specific and only, just cant think of who makes it or even what it is called. XXXXXX Sleeve...I dunno. I have an exedy clutch, I would do clutch master if I could do it all over again...Hopefully the car will last thru another clutch I didn't think that the 2.5L parts would work. I would've ordered the 2.5l clutch kit from an online retailer if this were the case. I researched it, and am almost certain you cant use the 2.5 on the 2.2. This was a while ago tho, so I am not sure.

If your going to replace the clutch, check to see if you have any oil leaks first. If so, I would imagine pulling the motor to swap the seals would be the best idea. "two birds with one stone" idea This is what I did.....well what I had the shop do

I had some type of foam stuff in my original heat sheilds (factory??). I just removed them a few weeks back and it all kinda fell/crumbled out. Boy am I a happier person. I tried some fixes but they never lasted.

Right. But If I have carbon buildup then a knock sensor running 87 will jst pull timming, buck and stumble (and also save my engine). Running 93 with a knock sensor wouldn't pull timming, buck or stumble...I found out by re-locating my sensor, that I am pinging. Hence the reason I wanted to do a water Decarbonization. I didn't do it when I was surrouned with all my tools (at home last weekend). I am not going to do it. The car is running beautifully with 93 and a re-located knock sensor. Hopefully running this for a couple months will clear it up.

The limited OBW got a gold package in like ~99 I think. Other than that, the gray is the same across the boards. I thought the SUS had the OBW type of bumper, you know the big black section. I have definately seen a couple with it personally, and I like em. Nevermind: I see what you're saying. But the colors are definitely the same as long as no gold pckg

Right, I said tires, been saying tires. Never mentioned wheels. So... YES!! Outback tires don't fit on a GT, because of the strut perch being to low

So the outback tires don't fit on the GT's, because of the strut perch being lower. (That is what I have always heard). But, the OB tires do fit on the regular legacys.

^^that had to be custom. As far as molding/cladding. In 2000 all outbacks changed to cladding on the lower half. If your's is a 99- then you're ok, just paint.

Its an outback sedan. Everything a outback is, but no wagon. Front and rear bumbers will swap, suspension will swap, they are the same chassis www.cars101.com
