  1. Thanks for the response guys. I'll let you know how it turns out. I've got to convince the wife first though. Then I've gotta haggle with "used car lot monkey."
  2. Thanks for the info Snowman. Anyone on the value?
  3. Keep in mind I'm in Arkansas and older Sube's are not very common around these parts...and total POS's (anything) usually go for $500 minimum. I just came across an 89 GL-10 turbo Touring wagon with 5-speed full time 4wd and a locking (center?) diff. It only has 71+k miles. It does have rust on the bottom edges of doors and some underneath but I don't know the extent of the rust. There are no holes due to the rust. It has one minor scrape on a fender with very minor damage (could be pushed out...ie...no body shop or fender replacement needed). The interior is about a 7-8 on 10pt scale, mainly needs a really good cleaning. I'm totally blown away that I found a Touring wagon here! Anyway...what do you guys think the value is (with south central US "Idiotusedcarlotownerthinksit'sgold" monetary adjustment)? And can someone explain the full-time 4wd with diff lock system to me? Will this have a limited slip rear diff? Thanks, Jason
  4. The previous owner of my 81 DL wagon towed it behind an RV most of it's life. It still had the mounting brackets on the bumper when I bought it. These were basically L shaped brackets bolted directly to the face of the bumper. I've still got them if you're interested.
  5. First you want to get a dessicant (like the little "Do Not Eat" packets but alot more) to remove all of the moisture inside the car. Then I'd remove all the interior stuff you can and clean by any means possible. High pressure sprayer to the carpets and seats. Scrub brush to the door panels etc... I'd also run your vent on full blast and stand outside by the vent intake and spray lysol to clean out the vent system because there will probably be mold in there as well.
  6. Did anyone watch this auction? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=43955&item=2456626081&ssPageName=STRK:MEBWA:IT Can you believe they sold for $300.00!!! I emailed the guy about other wheels, mainly steels, and he said they had some but needed to sort through them. He said he'd let me know when they post them to ebay. You might email if you are really interested in a set of wheels.
  7. You'll be fine to inflate it to 60psi, unless your tire is really dried out and cracking. 60psi is not uncommon for spares. Just think of a 10 speed bicycle, they have really skinny tires and you inflate those to 60 +/- psi.
  8. Thanks guys. I didn't have a chance to actually look at the lights outside yet, had to get back to work. I'll have to check those tonight. Nobody uses their turn signals around here either, even the police! And if they do use them, they leave 'em on for miles and miles.
  9. I have an 81 dl wagon and today at lunch my turn signals stop signalling. I have a solid turn indicator on the dash when I turn it either direction. On most cars I know that they flash double time when you have a blown bulb, but I've never experienced this. Does anyone know what's wrong? Is it just a fuse? I wouldn't think I'd get anything at all if it was a fuse. Blown bulb? Thanks.
  10. Other than showing a vehicle at concours show quality levels why would you want to ride on 20 year old tire technology. Tires are so much better now in comfort, handling, efficiency, safety, mileage rating, etc...etc... Just kind of makes me wonder.
  11. I have no idea why this guy needs one of these in FL, maybe that's why he's selling it. It's only $8 right now. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=46100&item=2455762360&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBWA%3AIT
  12. I'm with the majority...polish and clear coat it.
  13. I'm driving an 81 dl s/r 4wd wagon. Mine has unresolved issues at present time. The only major repair I've done is replace the right front drive axle. Intimidating at first, but not that difficult really.
  14. You will need to seem weld the whole unibody if you are planning on jumping and general rally type abuse.
  15. Environmentally speaking...you all are being too hard on SOA. They are reclassifying the Outback in order to meet an AVERAGE of the whole line of vehicles they sell. The performance side of the line is actually dragging them down. Also, this is probably only a short term re-classification. When the model line changes they'll have to eventually bring up the average. If and when they drop the Baja/Baja Turbo, the average will adjust itself. All car manufacturers do things like this as a way of putting off or avoiding tariffs, regulations, etc... When it comes to fuel economy, Subaru as whole is leaps and bounds ahead of atleast the big three, most european manufacturers, and some of the major asian companies as well. Everything's relative.
  16. Thanks Shawn, I doubt the car lot kept receipts too. The guy I talked to sounded like Apu from the Simpsons.
  17. To be a little more specific...I saw a 95 Legacy L awd with 160k at a used car lot. He's asking somthing like $2300. From what I remember passing by, it has the 5 spoke alloys and the hatch wing. It's been there a while so there may be something really wrong with it. Okay...so what do I need to look out for? T-belt? What else?
  18. I've read about a kit car company that makes Porsche 356 Speedsters set up for EJ powertrains. That would be sweet! I've never been a big Bug fan, but I'd probably like yours...alot!
  19. Does anyone have any sort of buyers guide for mid-90's legacy's? I was wondering so I don't start a new thread of the same old "What to look for..." kind of deal. Thanks, Jason
  20. Try powder coating. I've heard there is a silver powder coat that is like a dull chrome. If done properly it's very durable...from what I've read.
  21. That probably depends on how much prep work you are willing to do. If you drop it off and they have to do all the prep work it'll cost you alot more than if all they have to do is wipe the prepped areas down and masking. Doing the prep work can save you lots of money and will also probably be done to a higher standard as well.
  22. Well it's sound more and more like a project I shouldn't take on. I really don't have the time right now to do an engine rebuild or swap. I could handle a turbo replacement . Like I said earlier, the ownership situation looks messy and probably won't get resolved anytime soon.
  23. It's a shame cuz the rest of the car is in really good shape. If the problem is the turbo, can you just replace it with another one. What else is there to check, look for?
