  1. Slow overall but an active day today You guys take a break and I’ll punish you more around Tuesday.
  2. I hear ya Larry but I’m content to keep it a roller for my old buddy who’s coming for it. Haven’t seen the guy in a few years but we’re always good with each other no matter how much time has passed since last bumping into each other. And there’s a young lady I think in the next town over who will likely grab those wheels as long as my friend can work it out either at the yard or if she comes up with some steels. As for the brakes and suspension, yeah I sure did give it all considering, but in the long run enough is enough. For reasons I’d rather not go into I sort of need to finish this up and get back to life without wrenches. Look for my EGR thread to bump up soon. Tomorrow I need to extract my old engine and get them side by side and then the big show - drill and tap in the EGR port/fitting. What I need to do tomorrow is turn my back on that piggie and focus on my car. Let’s see what happens. LOL there’s still a heater unit in there I have mostly undone , and the steering wheel just one bolt at the joint and it’s ready to yank , and wait , I think there’s a seat belt , wait what about the .....
  3. It’s rolled outside and awaiting pickup. Got a good 9 gallons plus of petroleum from the piggie. Looked into the fuel filler pipe but abandoned it. Too much crap attached to it. Took the fuel pump.
  4. Waiting for the scrapper I decided to make the effort. The passenger side was easier than I had thought. Also have the steering column down but not disconnected at the joint yet so I can maneuver the car. One bolt and it’ll be extracted. Pulled the dashboard mostly for experience and assist , so I thought , getting the other components out. It’s a sickness I know. Most of this stuff will sit around but screw it I’m forced to pay for storage so might as well use it. Siphoned the gas , pretty much taken all of value from this piggie.
  5. In the middle of an EGR port drill and tap in another post if you’re curious to that method. A little slow but this week I’ll be getting that done. Pretty much unbolt the old intake and place it up by the windshield area - just suspend it with some wood or ? And then it’s out of the way. You can then lift the engine out , drop in the 95 (less it’s intake of course) , and bolt the intake down to your newer engine. Replace any hoses under the intake and inspect the metal tubes as well for rust which would create pinholes. Common practice.
  6. Thanks all. Yeah , it’s time I stopped myself and rolled this stinking box out. If I am crazy enough to continue I will check the recall list first and sift through the nice pile of service records they kept. Storage , well you know what George Carlin said about that , right ? Thinned out my vintage parts , now filling it up with would be could be functional parts. Ahhh the American way.
  7. Just about to shove this parts wagon to scrap and had wondered about salvaging the air bags. For one thing I’m going to be putting a new driver in a same era car very soon. And you never know with me behind the whee of my own ‘03. Are they worth the effort ? Given their age is it worth it ? The parts car is a 2000 so 22 years old now. Here’s something to consider @@@ the car was smashed in front but the bags didn’t go off. Damage was mostly hood and grill, bumper too but wasn’t too bad. I even salvaged the driving lights. Old days and older generation cars I would take the steering column complete. Is that something you can still do with these airbags in them ? I had been fooling around with the dashboard and kind of exploring. Removed a bunch of nuts but haven’t really made the full effort. Anything to know if I go after the passenger bag ? Is that even worth it ? Normally I’d say if something like that needs replacing on my car or kid’s car that it’s just time to let the car go. But given several factors I’m just looking to cover bases and have that insurance on the shelf. Theory has been talked about by many. You have the part ready to use and therefore you won’t ever need it.
  8. Let me know if you need pictures or parts. I took the entire double unit down and all seals carefully removed as well. There’s a few drains and some T into others’s duct. Haven’t gone to see the exit for the front tubes yet but you were already down that path. Just about to roll this car out for scrap.
  9. I won the match. Just about done with the silliness of obsessive dismantling. Took off more crap I won’t need and probably won’t sell. But it’s fun and therapeutic, yeah that’s right. Raised the front as shown and somebody must have been looking out for me because that piggie came out fairly easy. Small victory. My celebratory post.

  11. Indeed the past month or so I did exactly that. Saved money using the internoogie and picked up at the counter. Now I’ve got around $700 worth of brake parts to install ... damn!
  12. that’s the left read drain tube at the outlet. As you can see there was some build up there. Just stopped by this car today for another short stint. Figured I’d snap some shots. I have the perimeter of the ceiling liner all loose and the only thing I need to further investigate would be how this thing is anchored around the glass. I can see that it’s one point in the center in the forward roof , and the back looks like it has four of some sort.

  14. Yeah , I’m wrestling a pig after all. Got it down easily , and surprisingly without what GD suggested although I was ready to. A little twist n stuff , and I started by taking the pitching stopper bracket off. That helps. So it sits in the floor. Got it down as gently as I could. But now I need a 900 lb gorilla, got one ? LOL , I’ll manage but again I didn’t dedicate much time and wrapped up to get back into life which clocks me in to work soon. Why ? I have a tough time answering myself at times like this. I mean I’ll end up getting it out from under and all but man the time and muscle. Even when using all sorts of tools it’s still up and down , etc and waaaagghh to cry about my knee lately .... yeah that stuff that makes you question if this is worth it. Cheap guy saga. Had the car up high enough but too many factors made me rest it back down and go at it soon enough. And the jackstands, yikes ! Check that other post of mine. Those rear stands are holding one side of the U channel of the rear arms. That’s from jacking the front so extreme. Another reason to walk away for the night. See you after the next round of success.
  15. I’m ripping apart a 2000 Legacy GT wagon right now. Double moonies like yours. Rears were easy to spot. I haven’t yet looked for the fronts but I will next trip back to the car. You saw where they exit out back and my guess would be the fronts have a similar end duct with a rubber flapper too. Those rear tubes are pretty large diameter so maybe they are handling the majority. Then again I haven’t seen fronts to compare. This car I’m raping is now at a point where it’s got to go. If you need anything for those roofs including complete assy. just let me know. I don’t need anything just take care of shipping and buy me a beer. I am tearing the ceiling liner down carefully to keep because don’t you know my 2003 wagon leaks too. I don’t care about the glass or mechanisms, I’m just going to seal mine up and put the nicer liner up. I’m in CT near NY
  16. Oh I couldn’t agree more with both of you. Many calendars have passed so I’m not wanting to wrestle anything like this little monster. Another one of those things I should have just let this transmission go with the car to scrap. But since I have two automatic drivers here I figured I’d offer it up to cover expenses or it’ll be stock for that moment needed. We are in process of getting an automatic 2003 sedan for my daughter, low miles but still old and being an automatic my old school mentality believes no automatic is secure at this age. As for jack stands I think I may have a heavy duty set I loaned to my friend. But yes I do recall even the older models needing to raised well to hank that nugget out from under the car. Really lucky to have space and time for once. But yeah I’m too old to do things like this with extreme caution and with whatever equipment assists. And yes I did think about that HF tranny dolly/stand. I didn’t see one at my local. Knuckleheads like me get too obsessive over parts going to scrap. I’ve got my value from this golden pig already. So should I get hurt taking out this pig I’d be even more knuckleheaded. Again thankful I can take my time for once. And thanks Larry for the opinion on the trans pan.

  18. Have it all disconnected, axles , prop shaft , link cable , but at the end of my time to play I got a little stuck going at it my way and just let it rest back down die the night. You guys can come to the rescue. As it was I had the crane/hoist on it using the pitching stopper bracket I think it is. I had gone die the small ring at the rear of that bracket. It sure did flex a lot once I struggled a bit and shook the tranny around looking for a free-up spot to continue hoisting. But I also noticed it’s too tight to get the tranny through the crossmember going forward. Things get right that was. My though was maybe if I removed that bracket it would allow for raising the tranny just enough. But I’m not sure how I’m going to shackle it up. Please don’t tell me I’ve got to lower the main crossmember. Goes out towards the rear ? I’ve got a floor jack doing its job now. Just hate to handle the mass this way. The car is up on jackstands as seen in another thread. And I’m guessing if it goes out rearward then I’m going to likely have to get the axles completely off and out of the way. Going to add a pic if it works. The small tranny crossmember ended up coming off easy but the mount was just crap. So it’s actually bare now , no tail crossmember or mount.
  19. Indeed. Fairy lucky with both my daily 2003 and this donor car 2000. New England and on the shoreline. Oh how many Subarus have I heard that crunch noise on ? And Oh the pain that goes through your heart at that moment.
