  1. I’m not sure. Not really concerned with mine as I only want to seal it over.
  2. Yeah , I’m wrestling a pig after all. Got it down easily , and surprisingly without what GD suggested although I was ready to. A little twist n stuff , and I started by taking the pitching stopper bracket off. That helps. So it sits in the floor. Got it down as gently as I could. But now I need a 900 lb gorilla, got one ? LOL , I’ll manage but again I didn’t dedicate much time and wrapped up to get back into life which clocks me in to work soon. Why ? I have a tough time answering myself at times like this. I mean I’ll end up getting it out from under and all but man the time and muscle. Even when using all sorts of tools it’s still up and down , etc and waaaagghh to cry about my knee lately .... yeah that stuff that makes you question if this is worth it. Cheap guy saga. Had the car up high enough but too many factors made me rest it back down and go at it soon enough. And the jackstands, yikes ! Check that other post of mine. Those rear stands are holding one side of the U channel of the rear arms. That’s from jacking the front so extreme. Another reason to walk away for the night. See you after the next round of success.
  3. I’m ripping apart a 2000 Legacy GT wagon right now. Double moonies like yours. Rears were easy to spot. I haven’t yet looked for the fronts but I will next trip back to the car. You saw where they exit out back and my guess would be the fronts have a similar end duct with a rubber flapper too. Those rear tubes are pretty large diameter so maybe they are handling the majority. Then again I haven’t seen fronts to compare. This car I’m raping is now at a point where it’s got to go. If you need anything for those roofs including complete assy. just let me know. I don’t need anything just take care of shipping and buy me a beer. I am tearing the ceiling liner down carefully to keep because don’t you know my 2003 wagon leaks too. I don’t care about the glass or mechanisms, I’m just going to seal mine up and put the nicer liner up. I’m in CT near NY
  4. Oh I couldn’t agree more with both of you. Many calendars have passed so I’m not wanting to wrestle anything like this little monster. Another one of those things I should have just let this transmission go with the car to scrap. But since I have two automatic drivers here I figured I’d offer it up to cover expenses or it’ll be stock for that moment needed. We are in process of getting an automatic 2003 sedan for my daughter, low miles but still old and being an automatic my old school mentality believes no automatic is secure at this age. As for jack stands I think I may have a heavy duty set I loaned to my friend. But yes I do recall even the older models needing to raised well to hank that nugget out from under the car. Really lucky to have space and time for once. But yeah I’m too old to do things like this with extreme caution and with whatever equipment assists. And yes I did think about that HF tranny dolly/stand. I didn’t see one at my local. Knuckleheads like me get too obsessive over parts going to scrap. I’ve got my value from this golden pig already. So should I get hurt taking out this pig I’d be even more knuckleheaded. Again thankful I can take my time for once. And thanks Larry for the opinion on the trans pan.
  5. Thanks , now I need to work on floor management. Think I’ll set it down on plywood and drag it out.
  6. Have it all disconnected, axles , prop shaft , link cable , but at the end of my time to play I got a little stuck going at it my way and just let it rest back down die the night. You guys can come to the rescue. As it was I had the crane/hoist on it using the pitching stopper bracket I think it is. I had gone die the small ring at the rear of that bracket. It sure did flex a lot once I struggled a bit and shook the tranny around looking for a free-up spot to continue hoisting. But I also noticed it’s too tight to get the tranny through the crossmember going forward. Things get right that was. My though was maybe if I removed that bracket it would allow for raising the tranny just enough. But I’m not sure how I’m going to shackle it up. Please don’t tell me I’ve got to lower the main crossmember. Goes out towards the rear ? I’ve got a floor jack doing its job now. Just hate to handle the mass this way. The car is up on jackstands as seen in another thread. And I’m guessing if it goes out rearward then I’m going to likely have to get the axles completely off and out of the way. Going to add a pic if it works. The small tranny crossmember ended up coming off easy but the mount was just crap. So it’s actually bare now , no tail crossmember or mount.
  7. Indeed. Fairy lucky with both my daily 2003 and this donor car 2000. New England and on the shoreline. Oh how many Subarus have I heard that crunch noise on ? And Oh the pain that goes through your heart at that moment.
  8. That radio has a story , of course. So one day some local bigwig got permission from the FCC to put up a radio station and its towers across the street from us - roughly. The transmission from that station would naturally blur over many other stations , pretty much all of them excepting the local high watt news/BS station. Ok here’s the tickler. You could even hear that station in an appliance !!! Yes , we all went over to Uncle Gus’ place so we could witness the radio coming from the fridge!! True story. I’m sure there’s similar out there. So , that radio you see was the station’s hush up gift to various neighbors who complained. Enjoy !
  9. Thanks. Yeah going so inboard scares me. Way more comfy out at the corners as best as possible. Also concerned about the rear arms but they seem to take the weight.
  10. Thanks for the education and entertainment folks. Hey , just an old dinosaur here , what I said was basically - find the parts to keep it healthy and allow it to live out it’s life without detrimental consequences. The stuff I mentioned is simple and can likely still be found. Yes I owned at least a couple that I daily drove for a short period. I did enjoy my 88? Turbo Wagon with the fivespeed single range. It was fun but just a few pages in my book. Challenging ourselves with projects can be great. But as mentioned the effort and cost needs to be weighed out. Dinosaur says ride it out stock. It won’t be around too much longer. Just ask the many of us previous owners. Good luck. I feel you’re going to stick with your plan somewhat and get that latest tech adapted. If any success please boast and enjoy the moment. Cheers !
  11. Check my pics in my Craigslist posting and see if you agree with my Jack stand placement and if not please indicate the proper spots to use. Thanks very much. Every new generation seems to be more and more tricky in this regard. https://newyork.craigslist.org/fct/pts/d/bridgeport-subaru-legacy-wagon-parts/7368346264.html
  12. Good info, of course from you. I’m considering acquiring some small lot of engines, a transmission, and rear subframe and diff, etc for cheap. Just a side thing I really don’t need and am probably wasting time on but I’ll have a better, shelf stock for my ongoing projects I foresee. Mostly based around the early 2.2 As for this current swap I’m just a bit slow from being pulled in various directions. But I passed a little time there tonight mostly bone picking. Going forward my plan is to keep myself and daughter in 2000-2004 era cars. But we also still retain our beloved 1994 Outdoor Sports edition Legacy wagon. Anyways ..... I like my old stuff. Will take pics of the underside like I should have tonight. This car is pretty sweet for up here. A little exploration while under the car removing the rear bumper and I see the place the drains from the moonroof(s) empty out. Very cute. Ok happy reading all and I’ll have better , way more cool stuff for ya really soon.
  13. Small step forward but that’s life lately. Engine out. Didn’t see that one nut hiding. Once done she split like a dream. Minimal effort with flat blades and chisel. Boring stuff I know. But man this sucks that they didn’t put a plug where that EGR apparently needs to sit. So I’ll be scoring that tap with at least one drill. I’m sure I have plenty to use for a pilot drill. GD if you’re checking in I’m guessing a good prick punch to start a healthy center ? And all drills will have tape on them as deep as the fitting it with maybe a 1/16” ease.
  14. Not sure this helps but I have a 1982 parts catalog and I can see that the DL 4WD wagon does have some particular part numbers. Might need a rest first but I’ll post what I can for pics of components and whatever related harness , etc that I can.
  15. Good call. Indeed I did replace the same tube in my 2.2 just a couple years ago it seems but probably 5+ lol Slow day. Not much time today either but I do have the exhaust out of the way , jack under tranny , all set but having trouble splitting them apart. Done plenty of EA’s and an EJ22 or so but this one seems awful sticky. How many nuts or bolts are there into the bell housing ? I see one more way the heck at the bottom. I think I’ve already removed 6 or so. I’m going to bail out at this point and get more rest etc. Have it all settled back down. Will conquer this tomorrow. Next question on the horizon is do you folks use anything special for hanging these on a common engine stand ? I recall the 2.2 needing long bolts and I think I used a bunch of washers as spacers. Yeah it’s a hack affair sometimes. Thanks.
  16. Haven’t found a good manual for you yet.
  17. But that’s an out of pocket expense. Don’t get me wrong , if you really want it on the road right you spend the money. But limping it along stock-ish on a budget ain’t so uncool. I’m a dinosaur who drives mechanical dinosaurs so pardon that perspective.
