  1. According to Cars101.com, 2001 was in fact the first year for the H6 in the OBW.
  2. Title should be edited to mean "H6." And I'm not sure H6 was available in the first year of the 2nd gen OBW; I thought it wasn't until 2001, but I could be wrong.
  3. I saw this done at my dealer a while back, on a 2nd gen 4 cyl OBW. They loosened or removed at least one engine mount and lifted that side of the engine slightly with either a jack or a hoist.
  4. 2000 4-cyl OBW. Can the rear-most bushings on the front lower control arms be replaced by the average DIYer without special tools? TIA.
  5. How do you like it? How much you pay? I've been thinking of putting one in my 2000 OBW.
  6. My 2000 4-cyl OBW needs new pads and rotors. RockAuto.Com lists the following manufacturers: Bendix, Wagner, KelseyHayes, Beck/Arnley, Monroe, Raybestos, ACDelco, and Guardian. Which of these are at least equal to OE? Tremendous variation in price. TIA.
  7. GrossGary, when you refer to 'end links' do you mean the tie rod ends? If not, what are you describing?
  8. I predict that you will discover that your alternator has failed. Happened to me, in a manner much as you describe.
  9. Starsea: send me a p/m if interested, or e-mail at JABlazer@aol.com
  10. Assuming that you are talking abou the a/c hoses for a 4 cyl engine, I have both the suction and discharge hoses. I recently bought them thinking that mine were defective, but it turns out all I needed was an o-ring. If you're interested let me know. They are OE from 1stSubaruParts.com
  11. It was the alternator. Car died half-way home, fortunately right in front of a friendly service-station with nothing else to do, and a near-by parts-store with the alternator in stock.
  12. 2000 4 cyl OBW, 120K. Battery, timing belt, accessory belts, etc. replaced one year ago. Today I noticed the ABS light come on, the odometer flash, the tach stop working (engine was still running) and radio decrease in volume. Pulled over by physical inspection revealed nothing unusual. Thoughts?
  13. My geographic description was admittedly imprecise. We disembark a cruise ship in Vancouver BC and spend a night with friends in Pt. Roberts WA, after which we need to obtain a rental car for a trip to Napa Valley CA. It appears that Bellingham WA is the closest city with any appreciable rent-a-car program; the Canadian-based outlets appear to frown on one-way rentals that end up outside of Canada.
  14. I was hoping someone would know of a rental car company with a larger stable of Subarus, with the ability to reserve a specific vehicle brand, which in my experience does not include Hertz. Any other suggestions?
  15. Arriving Vancouver/Seattle June 26. Need to rent a car, preferably a Subaru, for one-way trip to San Francisco, arriving there July 5. Any suggestions? TIA.
  16. When my 2000 4cyl OBW had its head gaskets done last year I'm sure the mechanic did not remove the engine, and when I was in his shop recently I saw him working on an identical car. Looked to me as if he disconnected the engine mounts and lifted the engine up slightly to gain better access to the heads.
  17. I provided the VIN # and still got the wrong part. There is an error somewhere in the system that correlates the part description with the part number with the item number on the schematic that most if not all of the internet parts vendors use.
  18. I don't think you can make any assumptions about where it was or should be based on the position of the witness mark on the opposite side camber bolt. The adjustability of these bolts compensates for variations in manufacturing tolerances, wear, trauma, etc. Still, I think you can 'eyeball' the adjustment through trial and error by comparing the affected side to the opposite side with a plumb bob, etc.
  19. Actually, all my local dealers had the part in stock, but the potential savings between one dealer and an internet seller was $70.00. But that savings is rapidly evaporating with shipping charges and time wasted on the computer and on the phone.
  20. 2000 4-cyl OBW. a/c leak. My independent mechanic tells me to get the 'discharge hose' (part # 11 on the internet parts schematic) that runs from the condensor (what sits in front of the radiator) to the compressor. Ordered from 1stSubaruParts in Renton, WA. Part that arrives is the 'suction hose' (part # 10) that runs from the compressor to the evaporator (the part inside the dash). Part number on the Subaru label coincides with the discharge hose, but thats clearly not the part that was sent. Help! Anybody got any ideas?
  21. Front axles replaced about 12K ago, with MWE. Air filter replaced recently. No codes.
  22. Nipper: Thanks for the suggestion but all of that has been done within the past 10K. The 'tremble' that I describe is a suspension/engine mount/bushing sort of problem.
