  1. obd2 is for 96+ cars. For 95 it might work, or might not work. For 91 it would be useless. If you have (as you say) Haynes manual - read section 6-2,6-3. They are quite clear on howto.
  2. Changed my steering wheel few days ago. Waited only few minutes. Still alive and airbag did not blow up.
  3. I have ticking which I tought was valvetrain noise. But actually it goes away with depressed clutch, so in my case it's probably some part of clutch. So its not necessarily related to valve lash adjusters.
  4. 96 is prone to "Tick-of-death" - so get a stethoscope and listen for any abnormal ticking sounds behind valve covers (and compare to 97).
  5. Did you try to clean you TB? I had problems with idle dropping very low right after hot start. Cleaned TB and it stopped. Not sure if it might help you, but its cheap to try...
  6. I think you need part number 92070AC011 It's a front half of console cover with a leather boot. There might be separate part number just for the boot, but I do not know it. Changing it takes 2 minutes - unscrew shifter knob, unscrew two bolts holding console cover over ebrake lever, replace front part of console with the one you buy, put it back and screw in a new shifter knob.
  7. My bet is that 225 with stock suspension will rub. Having said that, there are different 225, and some might be fine....
  8. I always though that Subaru's were not for straight races, but for ones with turns....
  9. Even though its a 5sp, torque bind still does happen and the only fix is to change viscous coupling which is 1000+. So run tight turns and make sure all tires are the same with similar tread depth.
  10. Another question: on nasioc couple of people insulate couple of inches of refrigerant return line near firewall and near compressor. Does it really help? Seems like a good idea to me, but there might be smth I don't know rendering it useless/danegerous.
  11. Come to think of it - I see no way how condenser and receiver/drier would make refrigirant colder than ambient temp. So Haynes must be wrong there...
  12. Well, Haynes manual says both pipes should be cold, that's why I got concerned. And in our other newer car AC compressor runs for a few minutes continuously when actively cooling (or with open doors), I though that was normal. Is subie AC system different?
  13. Ok, another AC question to nipper With engine warm or cold my compressor clutch engages for 10-30 seconds with 5-10 second breaks. Within 10 seconds after engaging AC blows real cold until disengagement. After that it's somewhat cold until next cycle. Pipe from the receiver/drier to evaporator is warm, from evaporator to compressor - fairly cold. Any idea on why it cycles on/off so often? Is the system overcharged/undercharged? I guess I'll go to autozone and borrow gauges to measure high/low pressure.
  14. I'm trying to figure out whether I need to replace ebrake cable on my 96 legacy brighton if I take rear hub/brake assemblies from a 95-99 or 90-94 legacy. Most of the stuff I've read on the issue is for conversion done for Impreza, and there people usually change those cables to legacy or impreza RS ones. Not sure if I have to do that as well. Any thoughts? Thanks a lot.
  15. Is it just me, or pictures from that topic disappeared somewhere? I remember looking at it awhile ago and they were there...
  16. When figuring out what to settle for - get a bunch of quotes for similar car from dealers and send those to insurance. That's what they should have to pay. Not some number in the blue book.
  17. Few days ago I ordered mintex pads and brembo rotors from this store, which had very nice prices and free shipping.
  18. There no car safety inspection in MN. And I think its wrong, cause so many people drive with only one headlight, busted turn signals, bald tires etc... Also too many cars have headlights blinding other drivers. Don't know if they fail people for misaligned headlights in other states, but they certainly should.
  19. I think the right way is to pull the engine. The cheaper way - drop tranny, but requires some extra tools. They say WRX seats are good...As well as 2.5RS. Haven't tried myself. I think they could not have done it then. 800 seems a little steep. I plan to have sep. plate replaced when my clutch dies, and the whole clutch job should be no more than 500. But 800 for that in a stealership does not sound unusual. Got nothing to say on 4.
