Wheel Question?
dmanaenk replied to aboone1970's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXTheres a link in a FAQ to page will all subaru wheels specs. Go there. In short - offset will not be an issue. If your legacy is GT, I bet wrx 16" will not clear you brakes, otherwise they will probably be fine.

undercar rust....95 legacy wagon
dmanaenk replied to Danbob's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI guess that would have smth to do with heat from the engine.

undercar rust....95 legacy wagon
dmanaenk replied to Danbob's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYour problem is common for states where they put salt on the roads to prevent icing. Factor in extra PB soaking of bolts/nuts etc before any work involving underside of the car.

Clunking noise after changing struts
dmanaenk replied to dmanaenk's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYours would do it for different reason then. Mine knocks/clunks on tiny bumps, so no way for a spring to bottom out. If I track this problem down - I will have a set of original struts with ~110k, which I will give away for free .

no power after 4000rpm
how old are plugs/wires/fuel filter? When I bought mine it ran like crap, wouldn't rev past 5k without sputtering. New plugs/wires/fuel filter and it revs past redline easily.

new tapping noise in neutral if brakes are applied
dmanaenk replied to dmanaenk's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMine is MT, and my heat shields rattle around 2k when I'm slowing down on compression It might be some new loose piece of heatshield, cause I do hear this noise only when warmed up. Good that you mentioned frequency, mine is kinda low - maybe 3-4 times per second, which is what, 3 times lower than rpms in neutral?

new tapping noise in neutral if brakes are applied
Recently started hearing mild tapping at traffic stops. If I let go of brake pedal it goes away most of the time. Also if I keep brake pedal on but keep turning steering wheel - no noise. Keep brake pedal down and give it little gas (>1k rpms) - noise goes away. Are there any common noises that are vacuum related? Guess I have to buy a block of wood to keep the pedal pressed and go listen to the engine with a stethoscope.

Clunking noise after changing struts
dmanaenk replied to dmanaenk's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSo I changed a tophat on the noisy side. It helped for a few days but the noise came back today. Does it mean strut itself is bad? Or it could be something else?

shifter question
dmanaenk replied to dmanaenk's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHope you're right. Anyways, the owner agreed to fix loose shifter first, and them we'll see if third gear is in place or not

shifter question
dmanaenk replied to dmanaenk's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI know how it is set up. I just do not understand how loose/worn shifter bishings could move only third gear to the right, with others being where they are supposed to be. I would think that loose bushings would just add slop around proper shift positions.

shifter question
Hi guys. Yesterday a friend of mine and me were looking at 95 legacy L 5spd. It has a sloppy shifter (no biggie) and also the third gear is not where it is supposed to be, but a somewhat to the right. And 5th may be further to the right than in mine. Other gears are in regular place, shifts fine, no grinding etc. The question is - could the misplaced third gear be connected to looseness, or its a separate issue to be concerned with?

Wheel nut torque?
dmanaenk replied to ericem's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSo why alloys should be torqued less? I always thought it should be other way around, and vaguely remember that subarus are ~65 steel and ~80 alloys.. ericem look at Legacy777 web site for a manual for a similar year legacy.

dmanaenk replied to Audiophobe's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMay I suggest "Is pumping brakes ok on car with ABS?"... or better yet "Is it ok to manually lock the door if I have a keyless remote?"
