EA82T high compression engine. Thoughts and opinions?
EA82 Carbed engines have a compression of like 8.6:1 iirc. I'd use the carbed block. SPFI is 9.5:1.

ARGH!!!!! bad oilpump + running EA82T = .....
Plus, from the sounds of it, turbo and mpfi blocks have a breather on the crank case for the PCV... at least that's what I thought.

EA82T to EA82C conversion
Would it be easier to put your RX's tranny in the wagon? Wouldn't have to mess with the fuel lines stuff, and would just have to wire in a switch for the diff lock. I wouldn't know though, as I have never pulled an engine or a tranny in my life

Vibration on braking
mikeshoup replied to mikeshoup's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHah, my mom don't need no stinking fancy drilled and slotted rotors. Nothing but the plain ones for her.

rwd conversion
If it has the full time 4wd box, it will work, as long as he keep the diff lock engaged. If you ever takesthat diff lock off though, all the power gets sent to the front (cuz of the open diff in the center), and you're not moving. Also, there's no guarantee that the transmission will hold up to this. I guess its worth a try. My question, is why do you want to do this?

Vibration on braking
mikeshoup replied to mikeshoup's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMy dad lauged when I read that to him. Because, in fact, he was actually the one who told me that you'd feel it in the pedal with warped rotors. He remembers telling me this back when he first showed my how to do brakes. Rotors it is! The wagon needs new front and rear pads too, so that shall be done too.

Vibration on braking
This is a problem on my mom's 99 Legacy wagon. When you apply the brakes, the steering wheel, and much of the front end starts vibrating, but I do not feel it in the pedal. My dad says warped rotors. I thought with warped rotors, you'd feel the vibration mostly in the pedal. What do you guys think the problem is?

Valve Adjustment?
mikeshoup replied to kimokalihi's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf I'm not mistaken, your 90 Legacy has hydralic lash adjusters... no valve adjustment needed or can be done. Downside, they can get stuck, and start floating at high RPMs (7k+ at least)

Coolant line question (87 rx hatch)
The purpose of the AAV is to allow air into the intake mani with the throttle closed. So yes, you are right in that the AAV sucks air. The reason why your engine died when you unblocked the AAV, is because it allowed air into the intake mani that didn't pass through the MAF. It cause a temporarily very lean mixture, and killed the engine.

hand throttle
You could probably easily make one using a bicycle shifter cable, and a bicycle shifter (not one that clicks, one that moves smoothly). My friend did that on his Tacoma that he took off-roading. He said it was nice to not have to always worry about the foot on the throttle.

I need some advice - FAST!
EA82s are non-interference. If you break a timing belt, you don't bend any valves. So, you're golden if it just broke a timing belt. I even helped a lady on craigslist who had a timing belt break on a nice wagon I wanted to buy and she said the mechanic said it had bent valves. The mechanic thought that because he didn't know how to put the timing belts on. I told her she had no bent valves, and gave her a link to one of miles fox's guides. She e-mails me back a week later saying thanks, and it was running nice and fine. Long story short, Subarus don't bend valves (well, maybe not all, is there any engine that does? I think like one of the EJ series I heard does...)

Found pic of EA82 stuck in big river.
From the website, it seems like that happened in Iceland. The title of the album is "July Trip to Iceland"... http://album.peturs.net/album33 If you go there, you can see more pictures of the roo, and the roo getting stuck. They even get another roo stuck!

That still cracks me up everytime I see that hole in the top of your block.

stuck wheel bearing
Let this be a lesson: Wheel bearings are not rings.

How much torque?
I would think the differentials would chip first.

have 1985 GL wagon--white smoke @55mph
Sounds like the PCV hoses/valve are clogged up. If its not smoking constantly, then its most likely NOT your headgasket. When mine blew and starting burning oil, it was an all the time thing. You should look for where the PCV valve is, pull it out, and clean it out. The remove all of the PCV hoses and clean them out.

EA-82 Alternator
He doesn't have an XT6. He has an XT Turbo, which still uses an EA-82 alternator. Difference, is almost all XTs use two 4 ribbed velts instead of the v-belts. Thus, why he's switching the pulleys. That alternator will definitely work after you switch the pulleys. Its cheap enough too.

HG Mayhem (Large pictures contained within)
Well, the motor is a hybrid SPFI block with turbo heads... so I'm not too surprised this sort of thing happened. Yup, blown headgaskets was the reason for pulling the heads off. Phil and I were hoping to see something cool on the gasket. The guy who put the motor together said they're Subaru OEM.

Passenger's side. We left the engine in the car. No idea how it got that far out of roundness.

headlights dim at idle
Dude, that is freaking cool beans info on that Maxima alt. I may have to get one for my XT Turbo. The XT Turbo's alt even has a single belt 4 groove pulley on it... so that'd mean the stock pulley *should* work. That'll be freaking sweet if its just a direct replacement.
