  1. I got my information from my own instinct, and then the fact the car drives after installing the belt. The piston is something to consider. I'm sure if i look, my car has a production date in laye 96. I will have to check that, and post my vin, i guess. I beat everyone to this car for 300 bucks, because everyone else was convinced that it was interference engine, but none of them had 40 subarus in their life, either.
  2. its a good idea to disengage the 4wd BEFORE pulling onto dry road. also, never engage or disengage the 4wd with the steering turned. the wheels should be straight for this. now you know, and should not have a problem anymore!
  3. 1. coolant temp sensor. car thinks its cold when it is warm, too much fuel 2. the timing curve will be relative to tps position, maf reading, and engine temperature 3.this is the first thing i would suspect. 4. i had similar problems, it was the CTS. this is how i learned, and thus my answer to your question
  4. then what do i drive?i already sold the u-haul and the camper. this leaves me with the GMC, and a truck that is not mine.
  5. ^^^ this is what to look for. so far i have encountered 3 1997 legacy non-outback with our beloved ej22e. the only exception so far was a 97 outback with an ej25d the distinction is most likely between legacy L/brighton, vs legacy outback
  6. Yeah, that was the pace desmond went to, but i couldnt remember what it was called or where it was at. s now i am out of money, as i spent my 60 bucks on re-instating my drivers license
  7. fuel pump cpuld be dying? i second replacing or inspecting the CTS
  8. I would say the running issue is CTS related, and now the now power issue is related to jump starting, maybe a loose battery teminal? maybe the starter lead to the battery burned out finally. I place my bets on the battery cable to the starter.
  9. I have the whole crossmember out of the car, i decided to go with the xt6 member and use a 91 turbo legacy rack, as it wont fit on the fwd(manual rack) crossmember. I discovered my paint code, and am going to have a coatings supply mix me real automotive paint into aerosol cans to re-paint my repairs. you have to buy the whole quart, hence the 3 cans for aerosol. this would be enough to re-do the roof and parts of the car that have bad clearcoating.
  10. no this is not correct, ej22e with plugs on top the head instead of in the middle of the valve covers. i just got a 97 brighton for 300 with a melted timing belt, and got it to run befre unhitching it from a towba. mine has a blown head gasket afterall, but only because the previous owner drove it with a bad water pump, causing the belt to fail.
  11. you might have to goose the gas or pop the clutch to free up any bind in the axles. try reversing several car lengths as you push down on the lever. get onto some grass, gravel, or sandy pavement and flex the car to thry and spin off the bind in the driveline, while pushing the lever down.
  12. the gas tank has a drain plug. the gas tank bolts to the body b6 6 bolts along the perimeter. shake a chain around in the tank to get the rust out. try electrolysis
  13. In general, it is your responsibility to know what you are needing, as sometimes the parts counterman or his computer listings can be vague or futile. If you know what you are looking for, you can pick the part from his parts crossing catalog. I got hoses for a 97 legacy at napa, off the shelf, and napa will pull the vendors that the chain stores will show "listed, but not available"
  14. the upper and lower are the same part number. try napa. you may have to trim an inch of one end or the other to fit.
  15. I would advise not to remove the torque converter if it is not necessary, other than a bad seal or disassembly of the trans. It would be the preferred method to leave the torque converter with the trans when pulling an engine for other services.
  16. We will bring the rust with us, so you can see what it looks like
  17. your 92 loyale works the same as any other GL, cable operated for the speedo, although there is a VSS in the speedo head for the cruise and ecu, but not for the speedo itself, purely mechanical 185-70 should be the proper size tire for a 5mt 4wd.
  18. one end of the mount bolts on, but the other end is flat on the ea82 mount, and the ea81 is bent at an angle to bolt up. or the other way around. it has been 10 years since i did such a thing, but i remember something like that one way or the other
  19. i found the super pro poly part numbers on the xt6 forums, although i cannot figure out the site in the link to order or get a price on these parts. also, i need to know of hand what size swaybar is in the xt6. I at least need bushings for the control arms, radius rod, and front and rear swaybars before i put it all together. so, which website or vendor should i shop for these parts?
  20. the brake lines run inside of the car to under the back seat before they run under the car to the rear. there is a proportioning valve at the rear brakes with 3 fittings. good luck with your problem there. Although i honestly do believe the hill holder does not apply pressure to the front brake at all.
  21. That is always something else, when someone will go out of their way to complain about something that doesn't directly affect them. My buddy Tim Hansen got the city insectors called on him for having a boarding house in a single family(college kid rentals) because he had cars in his driveway. So the neighbor decides to call about something that isnt car related, beacuse of the cars. They could build a taller fence. It was my car that did it in, the old lady next door with a dog named 'katie' does not like to look at a 78 toyota camper painted like a trashwagon. anyway....... that white car is very clean and looks nice. I did like the white hubcaps with the original wheels, that with white bumpers would look ultra clean.
  22. i've had too much fluid in a 3at, enough that it was puking out of the fill tube
  23. being a 1986 in such clean condition, this would be a rarer package, first year for that body style, almost a gl-10 but not quite. This car may have some collector value to the serious enthusiast, at least to me. If i had this car, it would get collector plates and be a garage queen. Please preserve it as a classic exame, and don't ruin it with futile mods, since it is an ea82 engine. I am so jealous when someone randomly finds a gem looking for a subaru and doesn't know it, while i battle rust and scour the earth for parts to have a car that is not quite as good
  24. I was more or less being sarcastic. but then again i smoke cigarettes while changing fuel pumps, put my smoke out in a puddle of gasoline, ad drove cross country with aleaky gas tank and fuel cans integrated in my fuel system. I am joking here........because i am still alive.
