Found dead is it worth my time/$$
SUBARU3 replied to Skip's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXEasy decision if you have room and time! If you parted, I'd buy some parts too. But the car looks too nice and clean to part out. I'd do a 2.2 swap. It amazes me what a disposable society we live in. I shutter at the nice cars in salvage yards anymore.....repair costs have gone out of control I guess. It PAYS LOTS! to be able to do your own work! Todd

95 legacy loose sunroof question?
SUBARU3 replied to serotta50's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell, my track is tight and there are no leaks. What seems to be the problem is looseness in the little arms that tip the glass up at the back. When I push up from the inside, the arms move, as if to they were worn.....this allows the glass to go up at the rear by 1/4". They appear like they should hold the glass down tighter when the roof is completly closed. Do these " arms" wear? Todd

Transverse link bushing???
Hey there all: Quick question...can the bushing on the transverse link of the front suspension, (the link to the crossmember), be replaced easily? I've never done it, but I think I have a bad one. I have a duplicate part to look at , but the bushing does not push out. Is it pressed in? Can this be done on the car, or do I have to pull the thing off ? Thanks for the feedback, Todd

How to Properly Price a Salvage Title?
SUBARU3 replied to jasinwa's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSalvage titles on newer vehicles are more of an issue than older ones. The lower the book value, the greater chance of the vehicle being totaled for minor damage. If you have a vehicle worth less than 5K. You can easily have $3K worth of repair, for even a minor fender issue. Hail can be one more of those things that total a car and nothing else! I have a friend who bought a salvage car recently that was a salvage vehicle and had hail "minor". It was a 96 Honda. Perfect car! Took it to a paintless dent repair guy in the evening that moonlighted and had it fixed for $500! Beautiful car!!! The car was totaled because the estimated PDR for the hail was $3200 from the "mainstream" body shops. Body shop are SUCH ripoffs. PDR is PURE profit! One more example was a bumper and fender damage on a 94 Legacy. Car was totaled. Repair costs were less than $500 to have a nice car. No frame damage, not ANY other damage, but the car was totaled. Car had 79K! So Salvage can be good, but yours eyes are your market! Todd

SUBARU3 replied to serotta50's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAll interesting! I will look closer. I know I'm not in the mood to tear it out...yet. It doesn't leak and operates fine. But knowing me..I have to have things right! Todd

95 legacy loose sunroof question?
SUBARU3 replied to serotta50's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have the same issue with my 95. Play in the glass. When closed you can push it up approx 1/4 " from the inside. It operates fine, but I thought it should be fitting tighter when closed?? Todd

96 2.2 rear main seal retainer? What is it?
SUBARU3 replied to Subarunation 713's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have had 3 1995's , (2.2) with plastic separator plates. I think 1990-1993 was metal and 94-96 or 97 went plastic. But yes. 2.2s do have plastic ones. Todd

SUBARU3 replied to offroadsubaruguy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMy 95 Impreza 2.2 AWD is OBD2 My 95 Impreza 1.8 FWD is OBD1 My 95 Legacy LS 2.2 AWD is OBD2 My 1.8 impreza is an early 95, so maybe the switch was midyear, or is related to the 2.2 engine being present. My 1.8 Impreza is a little weaker than the 2.2, but it's minimal. It gets 29 mpg in mixed driving vs 23 on the 2.2 AWD. Highway I get 36 on the 1.8 vs 29-30 with the 2.2 Todd

Gen1 Graphcs
Hey Rex...no hurt feelings......I just do it to help out. It's not my living. Go with Ed. FYI My Gen 1 stripes (BRAT) are factory multi colored. I could make then 1 color too. The rally lower door SUBARU stripe, can be made in any color. I really don't need much of a measurement on that, as I just allow plain strip of 12" in front of the word SUBARU for each side. I just need to know the total length you need. Caboo.....you might go with Ed too , as he may have the work already done on the wrap around measurements. Todd

Gen1 Graphcs
Hmm....I don't have measurements for that stripe. That could be a challenge. Let me see what I can figure. Todd
-
Gen1 Graphcs
Since this is run in a continous stripe, I would need to know how much plain stripe you would want in front of the word SUBARU and the distance from the end of SUBARU to the start of the letters AWD. (Of course you can cut between the doors. Do you want AWD in caps and in the same font as SUBARU? So you need a yellow and in silver? Could you send be a sample of the yellow you are wanting. I know the wheel color. Todd

OMG !!! Need help with front brakes
Yep...they are a pain! There are special tools, but I just use a big crow bar, (the flat edge). I remove the caliper from the car and place between my feet. If you spray WD40 between the rubber and the piston, it helps it turn. Remember it need to be flush with the caliper body to install again over new pads. Todd

Rebuilding front end
Balljoints, inner and outer tie rods, struts cartridges and that's about it. Check the rack, lube the steering u-joint and check the rubber disk between the steering rod and the rack. The VW bug one fits and provides a tighter feel. (Just use your original 4 steel sleeve inserts in the VW disk. I have some 4WD struts for sale @ http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=64117 Most places have discontined these. Todd

Gen1 Graphcs
I can beat that price by $100.....shipped! I have had over a dozen made. They are like the original stripes. You can have your choice of background color and "BRAT" lettering color. The multicolor strips are pretty standard. You can add the "SUBARU" lettering, as seen in the pic for $15 extra. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/Litera...978-brat-a.jpg Todd

Junkyard spotted
Boy, if someone had some tin snips, I could use the sheet metal on the right lower area, right behind the rear wheel. (The painted exterior metal, from the bottom up 6". Makes for an easier repair.
